I don’t know why this says it’s closed… it’s still open, under new management, and it’s much cheaper and cleaner than before! this is a fantastic, fun value for families(we have 3 children, and it was SO reasonable! Something for everyone, even the drinks were all you can eat!) They had fresh fruit, soft serve ice cream, delicious barbecue pork ribs, good egg drop soup, crawfish and huge crab legs on the buffet! Can’t beat the value.

Without trying to be redundant, I will tell you why I go to this buffet. First off, they lowered the price significantly from around $ 15.00 to around $ 9.00 per person… for dinner during the week. Secondly, the fried calamari with jalapenos is often fantastic. That brings me to another point, the food here is not always good or always bad, it changes depending on many factors. If you go towards the end of the day then there is a good chance that the restaurant is not making any fresh food in hopes of selling off the remaining bits of buffet-ness. I can tell you from experience, the difference between the food here when it is fresh from when it is… not…is astounding. The non-fresh food is often soggy and if it is a dish that contains many items in a sauce they all taste the same with the same texture. Your drink comes with the meal and I almost always get a hot tea, diet soda, and a water. With the varying food choices I have to make sure that I have an abundance of options for lubrication. I like the egg rolls most of the time. Also the mushrooms(thats what they are called, just ‘mushrooms’) are usually delicious. The fried prawns are great… if you dig eating them with the shell on, which I do. If you are trying to eat a little healthier you can do what I do. I still ingest many of the fried/fatty foods, but I take smalll portions of them. Like, one piece of general tsao’s, etc. I eat the inside of the egg rolls and discard the fried skin(wasteful? Perhaps, but it is just friedness…) The soups are hit or miss; I have had great hot and sour and eggdrop, and terrible of both. If you are ballin’ on a budget(like me, except the ‘ballin’ part), then this is your place. Also, there can be *ahem* some robust individuals inside the restaurant. Be forewarned. Make sure you tip at least a little! If you cannot afford a tip you cannot afford to go out to eat. .FINAL.

Yuck. Seriously. Yuck. I felt nauseated after five minutes of eating. Left food on my plate hoping the next round I’d make better choices. I’d eat a bite, start to feel nauseated, and then try the next thing until I just gave up. Oh, the soft serve was good. I love soft serve. That’s about it though.

Forget the haters. Its an inexpensive chinese buffet, so you can’t expect fogo. They provide edible sushi, crab legs, strip steaks cooked to order, and the usual variety of things you may see at a chinese buffet. The one disconcerting thing is the live lobster they keep on ice, at the salad buffet. If you sit near this area, you have to watch the lobsters slowly waving their tendrils around as you try to eat your food.

I’ve been coming here for a few years. It’s your standard Chinese buffet. Nothing is spectacular, but they do offer a ton of options. They food is usually very fresh, unless you show up right before closing. The servers keep your drink full and you also have a soft serve yogurt machine that offers a wide variety of flavors. If you’re in the mood to pig out then this is the place.

Have been there a few times. I’m not a buffet fan overall… But as far as a buffet goes, this place is very good: clean, attentive service, not too tasteless décor. Food selection is pretty good. I am especially impressed with the variety of fish/seafood dishes; there were probably 4 – 5 different kinds of fish and another 4 – 5 different types of seafood(mussels, oysters, shrimp, crawfish and even fresh lobsters that they would cook to order in your preferred way for only $ 10 — not bad for a lobster!) Way to go, Buffet Palace? I’ll be back. Sushi here is fresh but tasteless to my liking(I’m pretty picky when it comes to sushi…)

The only cool thing about this place is that you can take it to-go. You can just ask for a box at the front counter and fill it up to your hearts content. They charge by the pound. They USED to charge $ 4.99 per pound, but the last time I went I was charged $ 6.99 per pound — which is not such a good deal. When ordering Chinese I always want a little bit of everything, which makes this to-go option nice — you can do that without breaking the bank. I’ve been a semi-regular(every other month) customer since the place opened and when the price hike set in I was disappointed to say the least. I haven’t been back since. although I’ll probably cave and give it another try one day when I’m itching for Chinese and can’t make up my mind. P. S. Can you bring back the gaudy gold Buddhas? Those massive statues were kind of cute.

I came here not too long ago(after not having come here in awhile) and it was just meh. The food that I used to like was kinda blah(although I did find a few new things that were pretty decent). I feel that if I want to gorge a bit, I’ll come back. Otherwise, I’ll spend my 12-ish bucks elsewhere. On… say…8 coconut paletas, whaaaaat!!!

It was a dark and stormy day(no, really, no dramatic effect needed), I was starving, and I needed groceries, but as you well know, you should never go to the store hungry. Lucky(?) for me Buffet Palace sits comfortably right near by my Jewel, so I decided to give it a try. It was $ 7 for lunch where I: –Did not get to choose where I sat –Had to continually wait for drinks –Couldn’t find anything except for knives to eat my food with -/+Had(some) decent food +Was sufficiently filled up to make grocery shopping a possibility without coming home with tons of junk. So Buffet Palace got the job done, but are restaurants merely to be used as tools? I think not. I know it’s a buffet and all, but it could’ve been better, a lot better. If you’re thinking of getting Chinese and you’re in the area, go three blocks up to Susie China. It’ll be more $, but your stomach, and soul, will thank you.

Since The Count and I like to live dangerously, we decided to hit up this place with the MIL and her friend right before going to Simon’s for happy hour a couple of weeks ago. THEGOOD= Very large place, there are tons of tables and booths to sit at so even during busy lunch and dinner hour there is not a big wait for a table. I like the booths near the windows, makes for some entertaining people watching. Traditional chinese dishes such as fried rice, lo mein etc. are tasty. Stuffed mushrooms and mushrooms in oyster sauce are my fave! Walnut shrimp is excellent! They have a soft-serve ice cream machine with different flavor syrups and tons o’ free parking too! THEBAD= The rest of the food is meh, crab rangoon is so fishy I thought I was at the Shedd Aquarium, don’t get me started on the eggrolls as buffet eggrolls are as bottom of the barrel as you can get and I will just say they didn’t disappoint in that respect. Food here isn’t really hot, and the cold items are scary looking. Lots of fish dishes if you are a fish lover, which I am NOT and they look kind of… congealed. And the ice cream flavors weren’t working DAMMIT! I don’t like the fact that you cannot get your own drinks, which means you are at the mercy of your waiter/waitress if you get thirsty. Service is hit or miss, usually miss but our last visit we were very fortunate to have an excellent waitress. THEUGLY= This was the first time we ever got kicked out of a Chinese buffet for staying too long! The waitress was cool about it but we had stayed extra long because we were all talking and The Count decided to get another small plate before we left(he only had two small plates — no dessert) and she told us that we can’t eat anymore because we had paid for lunch and it just turned dinner time. Sheesh. Also, I am positive this place killed the late, great Panda Buffet on Addison so only two stars and that is being generous.

buffet palace is everything i hoped it would be and nothing more. I liked… –salt and pepper shrimp –hot and sour soup –crazy ice cream machine(choose from banana, strawberry, chocolate, pistachio(my choice) and many other«flavors») My kid liked… — honeydew melon –almond cookies My old man liked… –everything he ate. The place was clean as a whistle, and now that I’ve gone, I won’t need to go back, but if you have buffet on the brain, this is a solid bet.

Had a craving for china buffet today so this place was closest to my work. Good for $ 7.64 for lunchtime, well worth it. Plus it wasn’t busy on weekday. Customer service was fine. My dirty dishes were taken away promptly. Food was decent too, wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t awesome. It was good enough though to meet my craving for china buffet. Their oyster with the mayo type size was good. Stir fry noodles were good too. Sushi was bah…

By far my fav«super chinese» buffet for under $ 15 in Chicago. I visit at least twice a month. LOTS of choices and great quality(for a buffet). The people that work the grill-to-order section aren’t very inviting and seem disgruntled, otherwise, the wait staff is friendly and prompt to refill drinks and clear out the old dishes. They have walnut shrimp once in awhile, which is the best dish there, imho. They have oysters too, which are suprisingly fresh, but they only put out 10 at a time and will wait an hour before putting out another tray of 10. The Alaskan crab legs are dry, but the blue crab is awesome. The prepped salads are tasty and I really like the salmon salad. The soups are good. The best part of the experience is definitely the soft serve machine. Avoid the seats by the windows, as someone mentioned, they’re on a slope and the seats are extremely uncomfortable.

Why give 5 stars? It’s a BUFFET! You can’;t expect filet mignon on a humburger budget! I went here on a Saturday night around 8:00p.m. The price was $ 11.99 pp and we had a 15%off coupon. I had oysters on the ½ shell(wimpy, and sad) crab legs(yum! But I wish they didn’t keep them in water) mussels clams frog legs Peel and eat shrimp(huge!) dim sum mussels rockafeller halibut string beans(some of the best I’ve ever had!) eggrolls(yummy) wonton soup chinese spinach and a few other things I can’t remember. Plus they have a HUGE parking lot! FREE!!! I’ll say that this is probably the best $ 12 I’ve spent on a buffet. They even had american food for my whitey husband! pizza etc…

Love it here – great service, clean facility, excellent selection. Nothing fancy, but hey – it’s a Chinese buffet. Every time I’ve been, the food was fresh and tasty. Nice calamari. I’d skip the dessert table, but definitely try the technologically marvelous self-soft-serve that can dispense a variety of flavors at the mere touch of a button. If you like Chinese buffet, stop in.

I don’t know if some of the previous reviews hit it on a bad day(maybe it’s best on weekends) or perhaps Golden Buffet has improved? MY experience here was awesome. I was nervous when I saw the front — it looks like a warehouse from the outside. We stepped inside a huge room with cool Chinese décor, still expecting average food. It was obvious from the beginning service was going to be great, and it was. Our plates were cleared as soon as we put down our forks, and our drinks were always filled. The food was what impressed me. Yes, there are the typical gloopy stirfries, but I didn’t try them so they didn’t take away a star. I stuck to the good stuff. Crabs legs, crab salad, fish, ribs, fresh fruit, clams, and some other things I can’t remember. My hubby brought over a couple of Chinese donuts which I wasn’t going to eat because my experience with bakeries in Indonesia(where I grew up) wasn’t good. Well, these were warm, soft, and indescribably AWESOME… and I had three. I was stuffed and happy. Perfect Sunday lunch.

This review isn’t written by Molly, it is written by Dan, who recieves mention occasionally; he refuses to start a Unilocal account because he’s much too busy 5-starring Expert mode on Guitar Hero 2. First off, Dan is from Virginia, which for anyone who hasn’t been there, has more buffets than Russia has mail-order brides. His word on buffets is LAW. There are so many buffets in Virginia that they have to resort to using nonsensical names like«Super King 2 China» and«Happy Family GO! Eat 14». He’s eaten at all of those. The initial look around yielded several key articles of information. Firstly the walls and floor were CLEAN. Like if I drop my fork I’ll just wipe it off with a napkin clean. Also there was a large volume of food available, ranging from your standard General Tso to the garlic toast and french fries. It wasn’t all the greatest chinese food ever or anything, but the options are many, and I’ve had far worse from regular chinese restaurants. Also… REDBEANBUNS that looked like little peaches. There is a whole eating kiosk/food tray receptacle devoted to fish, and a large quantity of mussels and shrimp on a bed of ice. My grandfather would murder the mussels. That’s just how he rolls. The food was hot(we were there around dinner time) and overall rather tasty. I didn’t push anything to the side of my plate in distaste, and ate until I was pleasantly full. The service was amazing! Our waiter kept refilling our drinks even before we finished them. The ice cream machine was also of the finest quality, having flavor nozzles and a little pushbutton gizmo that dispensed sugary flavor evenly on the ice cream. All in all, I would say this establishment is above average. molly’s edit —– the ice cream machine(which i didn’t notice till we were DONE is worth a visit on its own. i don’t think that i would have eaten anything(well maybe some rangoons) if i had seen that when we got there.

I started to think that I went the wrong Buffet Palace until I read JJ’s review. I decided to try this place since it was only 15 minutes away instead of 45 min at Buffet City. From first appearance, the décor resembled Buffet City very much until you actually walk up to the food. The variety was less — that I can forgive, but the quality– yuck! Everything was cold and my steak(asked for medium rare) was burnt. The tuna salad was brown and the fruit salad was swimming in mayo. If all else fails, try the dumplings and salt and pepper shrimp at a Chinese buffet, right? Wrong, never have been so wrong — the pork was raw in the dumplings and the shrimp was tasted like they were blanched then tossed in grease with shell on. AND no crab. The drive to 82nd and Cicero is much further, but for the same price and fresher food…

After an unsuccessful attempt to find a new Thai buffet, my friends and I decided to check out Buffet Palace. I’d previously been here, but none of them had, so I was happy to see that they were happy with their experience! Buffet Palace is incredibly clean AND have tons of tables, so you’re not forced to share a table with complete strangers. They offer a wide range of foods, from the typical Chinese(fried rice, orange chicken, mongolian beef, crab rangoon, eggrolls) to some dim sum and some American food(roast beef, corn, fries, pizza). I LOVE that they have sushi, too. AND it’s not just the regular California rolls… today, I had a roll with eel in it! There’s also a station a la Big Bowl where they will stir fry your own combintation of meat and veggies. Oh, and at the fruit table, they had lychees AND papaya! The food is pretty good and not too greasy(as most Chinese buffets are that I’ve visited in the past). Best of all, the waiter we had was very friendly and very attentive. He refilled our drinks about 80 times and didn’t kick us out when we were lookin’ through pictures. It’s a steal, too — $ 12 per person on weekends.
