It will be reopening as Armand’s(like the Elmwood Park restaurant on Grand by circle drive). For the time being, it leaves Zia’s Trattoria the only remaining street corner storefront business that is open on the busy Edison Park corner of Oliphant &NW Highway. I never felt the pizza here measured up to the original location on Harlem & Roscoe, and given its demise makes me wonder if I wasn’t the only one who felt that way.

Ok, so I wanted some pizza. I’m driving there and uggggghhhhhhh its closed :(guess the economy took its toll. I really liked this place, moreso than the one on harlem. But guess I have to find another place.

I live right around the corner from this place, and was a bit shocked that Caponies Express has closed its doors and has gone out of business. Sad to see a local neighborhood joint go under.

2 Jumbo slices and a drink(with free refills) $ 5. The only better deal is from the bakery up the street, the old lady which runs it makes hand tossed pies baked earlier that morning. Upgrade from a jumbo to a pan slice and add a dollar. These are big slices and they’ll do the job of ending that hunger you’ve got. Kind of like a rock in a hard place, it will lock up that belly tight. Sauce is savory and the taste of garlic runs rampant, sauce & cheese is gratuitously applied to each slice. Overall taste is pretty run of the mill. Their corner location looks tiny from the outside and looks as though it’s a carry out only. It’s actually bigger then that with many tables and a seating capacity for about forty. If they had more TVs, were open later and served beer, it’d be a fun spot to grab a slice and watch games. But for now, it will stay a hangout for teens with nowhere to go and families trying to enjoy a meal together. First walking in you are greeted with a glass display with freshly baked pizza goods, calzones, bread sticks and more. It’s a tasty sight which inspires a novice photographer to go grabbing for their camera phone. If our eyes fed our stomach the look alone would catch you. But since our tongues do the tasting, it was all just meh. Good enough to satiate a hungry belly but not something I’d go out of my way for.

Meh, I’ve had better. Thin-Crust Pizza: Cheese had little flavor Garlic Sticks: Dry, nearly flavorless. Price: Decent Delivery: Guy was super friendly and it came fast. I don’t think I’ll order from here again, with all the other good choices around. Still, it wasn’t terrible.

Best grilled chicken sammy in town. And they’re pasta options are affordable and quite tasty too! If you’re feeling lazy they offer curbside pickup.

They have a $ 5 lunch pizza special that is not too bad. You are not getting quality, you get a filling lunch for a low price. I am not aware of any other«slice» pizza options in the area, so this is the place!

This is a reliable local option in Edison Park. It’s not going to blow you away, but it won’t disappoint, either.

Never been to a Caponie’s before but since this was across the street from the coffeehouse and I want to try new things, I walked in an ordered a slice of sausage pizza to go. The pizza was delicious(the empty box is sitting next to me right now). A bit pricey, though. I did like the atmosphere of the place; it’s the kind of place I’d like to take my boyfriend on a ‘cheap’ date(if I can find parking nearby!!). The only thing that slightly bugged me was the cashier/man who took care of my order. He was really nice, and even asked me how my day was, but he kept staring at me. I’m not sure if he was trying to figure out who I was, was admiring my beauty, or if that was just his character. Eh, I’m not going to let that affect anything, though… I think…

I eaten at Caponies Express over a dozen times. Inconsistent would be how I’d describe my experience but more often its been a poor experience. The pizza by the slice operation is hit or miss. They should keep the pizza in an enclosed case that keeps the pizza better and is sanitary. Instead you can bet that 9 out of 10 times some of that pizza has been out there for hours on end. When its fresh their pan pizza with the works is really good. Also the whole 2 slices and a drink deal is killer. I’ve ordered a pizza 3 times. All three times there has been something wrong with the pizza(cold, under cooked). I just don’t get it my last order the middle of the pizza had uncooked dough and the outside was undercooked. They can really make some great sandwiches. I’ve had a few that are hard to forget. As I started though its all about consistency. If I’m going to pay twice as much for a sandwich as Tony’s Deli it should always be good. The last one I got the bread was so tough I tossed the other half. I think it comes down to whether one of their managers is on site or not. When it’s left to a bunch of teenagers to decide on how much effort should be put in to quality they tend to choose to put not enough in.

I have only been to this place once, but it left me missing The Chipper, which was the restaurant in it’s place before they move in. The Calzone was ok, but not made fresh like it was at The Chipper. I probably would return to try some other foods that they have and wash it down with the wonderful Red Cream Soda you can hardly find in restaurants.

i guess i’ll change my review to 2 stars because a relative of the owner wrote me to insult my taste. probably nice people own this place, but the food is still not good.

My fiancé and I decided to go and take out some dinner from here last weekend since we wanted to try out the new restaurant in the neighborhood. I agree completely with Darla M.‘s review in that they are working out the ordering kinks. I got the sausage and peppers and she got the Capriese sandwich. The sausage and peppers were pretty good and you got a lot for the money. We had to wait a pretty long time for them though. Apparently the capriese sandwich wasn’t great but not bad enough to stop us from ever going there again. The two of us discussed the place on the walk home with our food and we came to the conclusion that this Caponies«Express» is more for the people running in for a piece of pizza than anyone else. There are so many Italian places right there at NW Hwy and Oliphant. If you want a real meal, I would suggest going to one of those places. If you are just running and want a slice of pizza, then Caponies is nice.

So this place just opened and it was crazy busy when we went there for lunch. It was confusing as to where to go to order your food; so we placed our order at the register. I asked, for future reference, where we’re suppose to go to place orders and according to Dan, who maybe the manager, they are still working out the kinks. The staff seemed a bit confused too as to how things run. People walking in didn’t know where to go to order either… an employee(standing over the pizza display) asked what they wanted and he just started screaming out the orders to other employees whom were confused as to what to do b/c they were already working on other orders that were placed via the register that had the order/receipt printed and displayed. Now for the food… mozzarella sticks, Good. Caprese Sandwich, Good… even with the onions they put on it! The Baked Mostaccioli was not so good unfortunately. The marinara sauce was mostly cheese(grated parmesan maybe) with some tomato sauce. I was disappointed and didn’t eat most of it. The menu has plenty to offer, sandwiches(hot and cold), pizza slices, pasta, salads, and desserts. I think once all the kinks get worked out this place will be a gold mine for the neighborhood. One more thing, the menu states they have«Curbside Carryout, call a ½ hour prior to pick-up with your order and credit card. Drive up to one of the four corners of NW Hwy. and Oliphant St. and one of our staff will bring your order to you at no add’l charge»…awesome, esp. since parking is terrible around there.
