Chicago Center for the Print is a great place to buy vintage European posters with their specialty being French and Swiss works. The store is like an art gallery and is a feast for the eyes. In addition to being able to see all of the inventory– they also do archival framing and have hundreds of frame styles for you to choose from. These posters are the real thing. You can buy low end, high production posters for as little as $ 100 — $ 200. But if you want the harder to find, low production vintage posters– the prices quickly go up to the $ 3000 to $ 12,000 range. This is an investment just like any other art form, as vintage posters communicate their messaging through little prose but are heavy into visual detail– works of art, indeed. The staff/owners are knowledgeable and friendly, welcoming you to their gallery and helping you to find what you are looking for. They also host events in their space which is a great way to meet others who share your love for these posters. If they don’t have what you want– they will work with you to find it. Their website is updated regularly to include new artists and designs that they have found so you need to go back often. The next time you are in the market for a vintage poster– check out the Chicago Center for the Print. I’ll bet you’ll find exactly what you are looking for. I know I did.
