I’m sure they have their good days, but my experience with Chicago Moving Men was an unmitigated nightmare. If you don’t feel like reading everything below, here’s the short version: they were extraordinarily late, grossly unprofessional, unfriendly, and damaged our property. 1. They showed up 3 hours late. I called the owner 10 minutes after they were supposed to arrive, and he said he accidentally scheduled us for 2pm instead of 10am. All of his movers were in Indiana, but he’d try to get someone there around 1pm. 2. At 1pm, the owner himself showed up, along with a random friend he’d enlisted to help at the last minute. Both looked to be around 22 years old, and appeared angry that they had to be there. 3. Instead of apologizing for making a mistake, the owner complained to us about«having to drive all the way down from Barrington» to move our stuff. 4. The owner and his friend were, how do I put this, not good at moving things. They dragged furniture all over the hardwood floors. Bumped into walls and doorways, causing a ton of paint damage all over the property. Broke the knocker off the front door. And took 45 minutes just to move the couch. 5. Because of their slow speed, we had to pay for an additional hour. Even then, I personally wound up carrying a lot of boxes to the truck myself . 6. They had no idea how to pack a moving truck. We had to ask a friend who works for another moving company to come and rearrange our truck so that everything wouldn’t fall out or jostle around. 7. The owner’s friend disappeared three times, twice to put more money in the meter where he was parked, and once, ostensibly, to grab some pop for him and the owner, even though we offered them drinks at the onset. 8. When the time came to pay, the owner mentioned a $ 40 travel fee that was never mentioned on the website we booked them through. It was in the email, he said, and indeed, I did find it buried within a confirmation email that the owner sent a day or two before the move. But when you book a mover through a website(MovingHelp) for a flat rate, shouldn’t that be the rate you pay? 9. The owner also said we could only pay in cash, even though the website(and his email) said that debit and credit cards were acceptable. 10. Finally, though I’d been patient and friendly the entire time despite everything, after paying(and tipping both of them, sadly) I rather bluntly told the owner that this was all a huge inconvenience for us, and that the service we received was unacceptable. Once again, the owner did not apologize. Believe it or not, he actually complained, again, about having to drive down from Barrington to move us himself, and how inconvenient that was for him. In the end, we left Chicago 4 hours later than planned(3 hours waiting plus 1 hour of extra moving time), which also meant we left during the height of rush hour. It completely ruined our plans to move across the country, and resulted in a sleepless night driving through the Appalachians just so we’d be at our new home in time for our movers there(who were amazing). Overall, it was the worst experience I’ve ever had in the service industry.

Danny & Derrick, Moving’s Odd Couple! Funny, helpful, skilled, and strong. LoL! I really enjoyed working with them. They sold me on movers and I’ll definitely work with Chicago Moving Men again because of these two guys. The company was also very accommodating and helpful. The customer service was amazing, I had to reschedule three times before actually setting a date and they did not blink and eye. Great company and great guys working for them.
