Stopped by today and the place is closed and empty. Not sure what happened — there was no warning, and there are no signs in the windows — they’re just gone. So, no more City Pizza, at least on Jackson.

Had my first city slice last week Tuesday. It was good stuff, and the owner brings a lot personality to the place. Stopped by yesterday… and it was dark. I called today and no answer. I think they closed? It’s too bad, becuase I only just discovered it.

Really great NY style slices. What a bargain too. Docked one star for the overly spicy ‘spicy sauce’. I like hot but that was almost inedible. Stopped by today for a slice and was so disappointed to see it closed. Ovens gone, seems there’s no hope of reopening. RIP City Pizza. You’ll be missed.

Perfect giant slice of pizza for that greasy, thin crust, New York-style craving.

Could the owner be any happier? It makes sense since he must be pretty happy with his product… Today was my second trip to City Pizza… The special pie was Sausage/Onion/Peppers with a spicy sauce. Freaking amazing. I just wish I had the patience to wait till it cooled down as my mouth now had 1st degree burns. Couple weeks ago I tried the pepperoni… Outstanding as well. I am looking foward to picking up a full pie in the summer and walking it over to Pritzker and watch the Grant Park Orchestra. Maximum Stars!

2 Problems with this place: Problem: 6 Bucks for 1 slice and coke is too much, places around the loop as mentioned can get you 2 slices fro the same price. Solution: Lower your prices. Problem: I am and ex-NYer and feel the slice is overall pretty good for a Chicago NY Slice, good cheese consistency and the crust is appropriately crusty for a NY slice. The SAUCE however is WAY too sweet and the spicy sauce is still too sweet now with just added heat. I think if you resolve this sauce issue(not sure if you prep it in store or just get it pre-prepped) you will have a great slice.

As an east coast girl, this place is JUSTLIKEHOME! Have their garlic knots. you won’t be disappointed. They have all the extra toppings but the plain cheese slice won’t EVVVVER disappoint. The service is great and the owner is extremely personable. Finally. east coast pizza made the right way!

City Pizza catered a recent Bar Mitzvah party for our family. It was AWESOME! Everyone loved the pizza, it was hot and fresh. Salad was great. The whole experience of working with City Pizza was outstanding!!!

This is a must go place if your in the downtown south loop looking for a great slice or meatball sandwich! The pizza has a good unique flavor you won’t find anywhere else downtown. Garlic knots are baked fresh with a nice marinara dipping sauce. The portions are big and you get your money’s worth!

I“m surprised by the negative reviews. You get a giant slice and a coke for $ 6; for lunch in the loop that’s CHEAP! Also, I see complaints about the pizza being too greasy. It’s New York style pizza, of course it’s greasy! That’s why it tastes so good! Good pizza, good service, good price. I will definitely be returning!

$ 5 for a large slice of pizza is meeeh. There’s a place called Reggie’s in the O’Neills bar which is a few minutes away that sells a huge slice like this + coke for $ 3 last time I was there. I got pepperoni and it tasted good, but I’m not sure if it’s worth $ 5. I also got garlic knots and these were pretty terrible. I didn’t taste any garlic and it just seemed to be drenched in butter. Plus the served it with COLD marinara sauce… just no. The slice was a 4/5, the garlic knots a 2⁄5. The slice I could see myself getting now and then, tax is included in the $ 5, so it’s not too overpriced.

Great atmosphere and nice staff. The pizza is good but a little pricey for a slice. A lot of pizza competitors on and around Jackson Blvd with better pizza deals.

I normally don’t write reviews, but I felt this was well warranted. So I grew up on NY style pizza. I have been in Chicago for the past 15 yrs and the places that I consider that have true NY style pizza are few and far between, which is why whenever I go back to visit back east, the 1st thing I do is grab a slice. City Pizza just became my favorite pizza place here in Chicago. For those that prefer cheaper options, sure, there are other choices nearby. But I’d rather pay an extra few dollars to get an authentic NY slice that I consider the best in the city any day.

The quest for the best pizza in Chicago continues! I peeked this place out on my way home and decided to stop in. It’s extremely rare to see a place in Chicago that actually KNOWS what New York style pizza is let alone can pull it off(most places just cut it into regular triangles and call it «New York»). Suffice to say, this is authentic New York style pizza from the extreme greasiness to the flexible thin crust, its pretty amazing. I ordered a slice of sausage and chili pizza and it brought me back to my childhood and watching movies like«Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles» with them eating this greasy pizza and cheese going everywhere. The total came out to be $ 11 and some change with a drink so that’s $ 5 a slice which is kinda ridiculous, especially when you have places like Bacci’s which has the jumbo slice with drink for $ 4.50−5 and Luke’s right down the street for $ 2.75 a slice albeit Luke’s is a smaller slice. It’s no wonder this place was pretty much a ghost town the entire time I was there. The pizza was great though. Things were nice and hot, not to mention the pizza looked perfect. Chili was exactly as it’s named, it uses chili instead of tomato sauce and came out better than I expected. The sausage slice was even better. This place is definitely worth checking out although they seriously should reconsider lowering they’re prices a bit.

Hands down the best place to get a «New York» style slice in the city. Emphasis on the New York style, however — it is not for everybody, so buyer beware. When I am in the mood, I go here — NY style is far different from the«deep dish» Chicago or even your generic chain store pizzas. The crust is very thin and foldable, and the toppings have a greasy texture to it. This is off-putting to some, but it’s how NY style pizza is — take it or leave it. Garlic Knots are also an NYC staple and are excellent here. The highlight of this place is the pizza sauce — just a hint of spiciness to keep things interesting. They have both a «Grandma» style pizza and specific spicy sauce — the former is too garlic-y even for me, and the latter is *too* spicy, but likely appeals to the Tabasco sauce crowd… My only complaint is price — otherwise this place would be a solid 5 star(and I’ve struggled going back and forth between 4 and 5…). At $ 5, the price for a slice is a little high, and the whole pie at $ 20 seems like a great deal initially until you realize they charge $ 2 for EACHTOPPING — even if you just want a bit of sliced onion. Given the size of the pizza, I can understand the charge for the meat, but they really need to re-re-think their veggie pricing(they already tweaked it once). Little to no indoor seating — which again is kind of the NY style, but may crimp your style if you want to eat in during the winter.

I must say when it comes to true New York style pizza this place hit the nail on the head. It was amazing and extremely affordable. The pizza is great folded or not folded whichever suits your fancy. I had the Thursday special which contained the signature spicy sauce, if you like spicy definitely get that one it was delicious. Note: there is no seating inside but there is some outside which is perfect for this time of year. This is definitely a 5 star lunch spot.

I’ve been working in downtown Chicago for about a decade and I’m always excited about the«new» lunch joint opening up. I headed over to this place for lunch yesterday. So here’s the deal — you can get a big slice of pizza for $ 5, or $ 6 for pizza and a can of pop, or $ 6.50 for us non-pop drinkers for a bottle of smart water on the side. They also have other food like meatball subs. The piece of pizza is huge, though thin that you can fold it in half and chow down on it. It actually reminded me of the pizza in Italy as it is VERY thin there too! Great inexpensive lunch in the area. There is a small space to eat standing up in there, or you can eat outside, though there is a McDonalds and Lavazza next door, also by the Board of Trade so it’s a crowded area. They wrap up the pizza on a plate and bag so it’s easy to take«to go» as well.

Glad to have another new lunchtime spot, but I’m not sure I’ll be hitting this one up very often. The slices are huge, yes. But they are $ 5(same price for cheese, sausage, etc.) & aren’t amazing. It was hot, yes. But man it was greasy & crazy thin. Basically it comes down to this… 2 slices for $ 10 is too much food, and is too expensive. 1 slice at Luke’s is only $ 2.75(yes, it’s smaller), but it’s delicious, & two of those will do the job for lunch, for sure.
