I woke up bright and early on one recent Friday morning and headed out of Michigan City IN towards Chicago and Midway airport. I needed to drop off the Company rental car and then pick up one for personal use. Google Maps had me going up to the Stevenson Expressway and then down Cicero to MDW. Instead, I got off the Chicago Skyway and headed to my destination via Garfield.
As a nonresident, it’s hard to know which Chicago neighbourhood is safe. I passed through some «interesting» ones on the way to MDW and made a mental note not to try this again at night. And as I got closer to the airport, this Clark gasoline station looked as good as any other and it was certainly better than paying upwards to $ 7 a gallon to Avis for returning a car with an empty tank.
The «Pay at the Pump» feature was disabled throughout, the bulletproof Plexiglas was plentiful and I met several «interesting» people both inside of the gas station and out. I’m sure we’ll stay in touch…
