I am indeed a fan. I have lived next to this place for 2+ years. and not only have they retrieved my lost wallet from the middle of division/​ashland/​milwaukee intersection. I had dropped it on my way out one morning, and the owner picked it up and kept it until i came in about a week later, SOL and needing a bottle of wine they handed me that and my wallet. like a dream come true, bravo!
also they have a gluten free beer i dig, and a decent wine selection.
I often times come here in my fuzzy slippers, no judgement from the crackhead crowd outside so that is also a plus. yayy.
but also –1 star for the crackheads. boo.

When I stopped in with a friend to get something to drink on the way to a show, I was pleasantly surprised to see the excellent selection of beer here, and also a pretty large and decent wine area. My friend and I left our bikes locked in front of the shop and went on our merry way down the street.
The main reason for the 5 stars though, is the employee who rescued my bike from thieves after I stupidly locked it to a loose pole. This guy came outside and wrestled my bike away from them after they lifted the pole to take it, then kept it safe inside the shop until I came back. Super thankful, super grateful. I’ll be back to this place because of him.

Admittedly I have been to this place several times, but somehow have never noticed the grocery section. With a 24 for hour Jewel so close you know selling groceries is just for appearance. But that is fine with me as I always come here for a quick 6 pack. They have a surprisingly decent beer section with all your horrible favorites (Miller lite, bud light, other shitty lite beers) and they have some more drinkable sections including crafts and ciders. There prices are middle of the road so you aren’t paying any more than you would at Jewel. I suggest stopping in if you need a nicotine fix quickly, you like lingering homeless, or your too lazy to go to Jewel when you need beer.

There’s this guy who hangs around outside who will offer to ‘watch your bike’ for you. In all honesty I almost trust him, even though I call him the Bike valet… «I’ll just ride it around the block a couple times!!!»
Anyway, its always a pleasure passing Crater. Whether I’m getting hyphy with a four loko or two, getting down with a St. Ides, or kickin it easy with a lunch time Crazy Stallion, I know this joint has got my high gravity fix. Grab a 211, go out back, sip a 22 with the home team. Its great. They got that pigeon park right up the street at Division too. St. Ides Heaven.

Crater is only a couple blocks from my house and it’s the place we’ll go when we need a late night pack of cigarettes or booze. Don’t come here for dairy products but if you do check the expiration dates. This is kind of place my mom would die if she knew I went to at night because there are always people hanging around smoking and drinking outside. They’ve never bothered me.
Crater may not look that nice but they have a sweet beer selection. It is the closest place to me where I can find all the beers I want. Rogue beers, Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald… you name it. Just don’t buy any champagne that has dust on the top of the bottle. It may not taste right and I say that from experience. Stick with the beer.

And damn, thought I would be the first to review this but I’m not even close. This is my go-​to spot for a bottle of wine. It’s two doors down and has a great selection of whites and reds for what it is. Also has a ton of bottles for less than 10 dollars. But don’t expect them to give you a suggestion, do your research or be brave and take a guess.
You do need to ignore the bums outside, but this isn’t East Lakeview kids. We’ve got a little dirt on our city noses here.
I’m just happy that I don’t have to walk more than a block for a bottle of wine, and the proprietor is friendly. Just like the bums.

The crowd outside is sketchy, but the people are work here are very nice. But more importantly, the beer selection is good. Lots of microbrews and other unique beers.
