Dawn shot my wedding in August 2015 and as all of the other reviews mentioned, she was amazing to work with.
Going into planning a wedding is an overwhelming process and we knew right away that finding a great photographer was the most important thing on our list. I stumbled across Dawn on Unilocal and the rest is history.
Dawn was wonderful to work with throughout the planning process and had invaluable advice that helped make our wedding pictures exactly what we had envisioned. Dawn’s associate Aaron also shot our wedding day — he was great as well and had us laughing the whole time.
We were both so happy with how our photos have come out and I’ve already recommended Dawn to my newly engaged friends :)

I don’t even know where to start with my compliments of Dawn. She is so professional, while being flexible and approachable at the same time. She was willing to give me feedback on potential shoot locations, while understanding the feel that I was looking for with our pictures. I cannot recommend her enough, she is just a lovely person inside and out and that comes through her lens. I’m so excited to get our pictures back because I know that I could have been wearing a potato sack and sat in a basement and Dawns pictures would have been gorgeous!

Melanie S. and I had Dawn do our wedding in October of 2014. We recently received our photos and are busy posting and sending them all over. She and her team were fantastic, and we could not be more pleased.
Months before we looked at several photographers who all were rated highly, but we felt a certain connection with Dawn’s photos and with Dawn. It took a little bit of study to see how she differed from the others, because all the portfolios at first glance looked lovely. But I encourage anyone looking for an event photographer (or videographer, for that matter) to take the time to sit with those portfolios until you can tell the difference and feel which one seems to «fit» — that, plus the chemistry you feel with the photographer and the other practicalities involved (rate, packages, etc.), should be your guide.
As Mel has stated, the engagement shoot was great for both the pix and for getting to know each other. I believe it paid dividends at the actual wedding.
She also had great ideas about where to shoot prior to the event. Being city folk for decades, we wanted an urban feel and to be able to shoot close to our venue (The Hotel Palomar). Building off our engagement session (see Melanie S. review) we leaned on her for suggestions that went beyond the «LaSalle Street Dip» that we had seen in many other wedding shoots. I recommend strongly taking advantage of her eye, as several shots that we thought might not be very special as we stood to be photographed turned out to be striking images.
And the photos are lovely — she captured the day pretty unobtrusively and with high technical skill. For example, shots taken in low light (e.g., during dancing) show people clearly without looking «lit».
Our only regret is that we did not have her shoot more — had we been more organized we would have had a more extensive list of informal shots for her to take, but as it was it was pretty fabulous.
A last note — when we got our flash drive in the mail with all our pictures, it came in a lovely gift box with a card, as though it were a precious keepsake instead of a simple memory stick. A small thing, but a thoughtful reminder that Dawn understands what the pictures on that thumb drive really represent.

First off, five stars to Amanda Z! Without her review, I’d never have known about the amazingly talented Dawn Roscoe.
Dawn was our wedding photographer, and she also did our engagement shoot. We had met with two other photographers, who were great in their own right, but we immediately «clicked» with Dawn. Her personality put us completely at ease, and her photography style was exactly what we had in mind.
Initially I didn’t even want to do an engagement photo session. I’m not at all photogenic (believe me, that’s not false modesty, but a fact) and I’m not very comfortable posing and having my picture taken. My then-​fiancé convinced me that having an engagement shoot would be good practice for taking the wedding photos, and would give us an opportunity for Dawn to get to know us better and vice versa, thereby resulting in better photos. As usual, he was 100% correct.
We wanted our engagement photos to not be too «staged,» so we chose to shoot around our neighborhood, where’s there’s unusual backdrops and lots of natural settings. At best, I was hoping for a few photos that I could «live with,» but they all turned out beautiful. I was blown away.
Fast forward to our wedding, and again, Dawn nailed it. The pictures captured all the fun and emotion of a most memorable day. We’ll cherish these photos for the rest of our lives.
If you’re looking for a wedding photographer, I can’t recommend Dawn highly enough.

I hired Dawn as my photographer for both engagement and wedding pictures. I interviewed quite a few photographers, as these pictures were one of the most important aspects for my wedding. I ultimately decided on Dawn based on her professional, friendliness, easy-​going personality, and level of skill. She is extremely down to earth and I loved working with her doing both occasions. She had a ton of ideas for pictures, but also let us do our own thing and create our own backdrops. I was a little worried that I would have the cheesy, cookie-​cutter images that seem to be everywhere but I found that Dawn’s pictures were very original. I definitely recommend her for any photography needs and would love to work with her again for another occasion.

Dawn and her assistant did my daughter’s wedding and the pictures were beautiful. It was a fun day and the pictures tell a great story to a wonderful day. The barn pictures were just how I imagined them. Civil war participants were an added surprise! it was a rural wedding with elegance. I highly recommend Dawn.

We hired Dawn to do our engagement photos and were so extremely happy with the results! We chose a location where the Chicago skyline would be in the background. The morning of our original shoot date was very foggy. Dawn contacted me first thing in the morning encouraging us to pick another date because the skyline would not be as clear as it could be. (Which we really appreciate now after seeing how beautiful the photos turned out). We chose a second date about 2 weeks later. The morning of the shoot was a little rainy but cleared up and the sky was absolutely gorgeous in our photos. We brought our dog to the shoot and Dawn worked so well with her, even though she is a bit of a maniac. :) We have excellent shots where she is looking directly at the camera. Amazing memories that will last a lifetime! Dawn and her team did a beautiful job with both our engagement & wedding photos. She has a unique ability to capture emotion but also the beauty surrounding moments in both nature & city-​scape. We have received so many compliments: «Your wedding photos are the best I’ve ever seen» and we were thrilled when our prints were framed and hung.
Dawn was great in researching areas for shoots and her creativity pushes the envelope. She stood in the middle of a busy Chicago street to get just the right angle for a shot on the Nichols bridge at the art institute. Her attention to detail was on point, from my jewelry down to the napkins at our bar. She turned the simplistic surroundings of the Modern Wing at the Art Institute, into a blank canvas. Her ability to play with open space was great and we were able to get a perfect mix of serious, romantic, and playful shots. Thank you to her and the team for a wonderful wedding that will never be forgotten!

Picture Perfect. Dawn did an amazing job capturing our special day. My husband and I had our engagement session with Dawn and our wedding day. Dawn is extremely professional and a perfectionist. We began this process by sitting down and discussing our styles, likes/​dislikes, and who we are with Dawn. From there, we worked with her to decide where we wanted to do our engagement session. We wanted a fun, urban feel… Dawn helped us find some really neat spots in the Brideport neighborhood, where we took some fun shots outside of the ballpark. She also led us to some cool, industrial spots that would later turn into some awesome shots! Leading up to our wedding, we had to decide where we wanted our photos to be taken with the wedding party. We had no clue. So, Dawn suggested the garden at the Art Institute. We trusted her, so we quickly agreed, happy we had one less thing to think about. These pictures turned out great! We took some serious, traditional poses and then mixed it up with some fun, silly poses which allowed our wedding party to kick back and be themselves. On the way to the reception, our limo stopped at a bridge. Dawn captured the most amazing pictures of us on the bridge. It screams city wedding. These have turned into some of our favorite pictures from our wedding day. From the preparation shots, to the cake shots, to the ceremony shots, to the intricate detail shots, Dawn captured it all. She has a fabulous eye for what looks great. If I ever need professional pictures again, I would definitely call Dawn. She is nothing short of spectacular.

My husband and I were married a year ago in July at Fulton’s on the River and we could not have asked for a more professional, fun, and fabulous photographer. It was an extremely hot day, but she did a fantastic job capturing every moment without having either of us looking like we were melting. She had us laughing and really enjoying ourselves and the entire photography experience, something my husband was very much not looking forward to in the slightest. After we got our photos, we knew we made the right choice. She truly captured the candid moments that I was hoping for and even made the more formal ones fun, too. We could not have asked for a better photographer. I only wished we lived closer and she could do all of our pictures from now on. :)

Dawn is a true artist and her photos make a statement, yet in a subtle way that everyone can appreciate. She spends a great deal of time researching locations and is very efficient with the precious shooting time you have on your special day.
Another great thing about Dawn is her versatility as a photographer. She can make your wedding day photography as fun and spontaneous or mellow and romantic as you would like. We love our friend’s weddings pics, but ours is so uniquely «us» which we love.

Dawn photographed our wedding in June this year and we couldn’t be happier!
In looking for a wedding photographer, we found Dawn and fell in love with her work because she has an eye for artistic, natural photography that really captures the essence and emotion of the moment.
Just as important as the photography is Dawn’s personality and her work ethic. She is fun, spontaneous, organized and extremely accommodating which made the whole process comfortable and stress-​free.
And as for the photos… words can’t describe how beautiful they are! She captured our vision perfectly and caught details of the wedding I didn’t even notice. Dawn and her team photographed my wedding in July and I could not be happier with the photos! Dawn is professional, knows her craft, and truly wants to get you photos that you will love. She has an outstanding eye and sense of style which result in beautifully shot photos with amazing color.
I had a chance to see Dawn in action at my sister-in-law’s wedding the year before I got married. The photos turned out amazing, so when I got engaged I knew who to book with for great photos.
When shooting, Dawn is low-​key and gets the shots you’ll love without being disruptive or drawing attention away from the ceremony or reception. She was really willing to work with us on our wedding day time line, which was tight, to make sure we got the location shots we wanted while leaving plenty of time to relax and celebrate the day.
Dawn has a knack for getting quirky shots that make your wedding photos unique from others — the quick wink, the great airborne dance move, the wind sweeping a veil — her work really stands out. My husband and I absolutely love our photos and so do our family and friends. I can’t recommend Dawn highly enough!

Dawn photographed our wedding in September, and I cannot say enough great things about her. Of course, the wedding pictures turned out spectacular — very creative, artistic, romantic. Some of her ideas seemed a little kooky at the time, but it’s amazing what cool pictures resulted! …Like, for example, I’d wonder what she was doing crouching down in the middle of the Hora circle snapping shots, but the photos that resulted were some of the most hilarious and fun we have.
Aside from the photographs themselves, Dawn was an absolute pleasure to work with. She’s professional and conversational and a little goofy in a GREAT way. She went out of her way to make sure she understood what my husband and I were looking for in the wedding photography. And then after the event, we got our pictures in no time, and then once again, she went out of the way to make sure we were happy with the results. (How could we not be?!)
I would say Dawn was probably the best VALUE we had in our wedding planning. Very few photographers out there will bend over backwards to make sure that their clients are happy, but Dawn is one of those few.

Dawn was hands down the best vendor we had the pleasure to work with. From the first meeting to the last, she was incredibly friendly, organized, professional and simply brilliant with everything she handled for us. I’m fairly awkward in front of the camera, but it was pretty clear after our engagement shoot that I was going to be fine — Dawn takes her photographs in the most natural, unobtrusive way, and its pretty easy to forget you even have a camera pointed at you. Dawn’s promptness with correspondence was a big plus for me — I got an immediate and friendly response to every single email I sent her. And at the end of the day, the quality of the pictures just took our breath away. She did exactly as we had asked — capturing those fleeting moments we will now be able to remember forever.

Dawn Roscoe is creative, patient and extremely talented. My husband and I had so much fun working with her on our engagement photos and our wedding photos. Having photos that are unique and artistic was very important to us and Dawn delivered. Her technique allowed my husband and I to just be ourselves and the spark between us naturally came through in the photos. we had Dawn shoot our engagement session in February, and we never had better pictures taken of us. The best thing about this whole experience, is that there is very minimal pose instruction, but by magic Dawn is able to capture the most amazing shots without you even knowing. She laughs a lot, and that alone makes you feel so comfortable, relaxed, and wanting to have fun. The photographs tell you a story, and a story that is real and not posed. Dawn does an amazing job editing for an extra edge!

I am a lover of all things photographic. True story. When it came time to plan our wedding, I knew that this particular vendor was one that I would fret over.
And fret I did. Until I met Dawn. Her easygoing manner and passion for portraying emotion on film made me like her instantly. After our first meeting, I was sure that her portfolio jived with the photographic vision I had for our wedding. (Some people are all sorts of concerned about centerpieces and the like? I couldn’t care less about that. I had a photographic vision.)
My request: uniquely urban photographs. I had seen one too many «dips» in the middle of LaSalle Street to want that for my collection. While that photograph can be undeniably beautiful, I tend to be a little… different…and I wanted our wedding photographs to reflect that.
We chose Chinatown for the scene of our engagement photos. The architecture, the vibrant colors, and the urban feel lent for a beautiful backdrop for us to have photographs for wedding-​related purposes. More than that, we became comfortable with Dawn. She shoots in a very natural way, minimal posing, and captures the raw emotions that just aren’t there in overly staged and posed photographs. We loved our engagement photos instantly and knew we would be in for a treat for our wedding photographs.
As the time before our wedding grew nearer, Dawn worked with me closely to set up locations for our photographs before the ceremony. Since we had limited time between the ceremony and the reception, we decided to have a first look photographed. Dawn really listened carefully to my expectations and wants for my photographs. She scouted out locations that I suggested and found even more that exceeded my expectations.
Day of the wedding? She arrived on time. Her awesomely nice assistant Kelly arrived on time. She watched the clock closely so that we would make it to our destination in a timely fashion. She was professional, courteous and… let’s face it, the important part: she (and Kelly!) took amazing photographs. She (and Kelly!) captured our emotions on our wedding day beautifully, and I couldn’t be happier.

Amazing, amazing, amazing!!! Dawn was our wedding photographer for our daytime September wedding. Absolutely stunning.
I interviewed literally a dozen photographers and Dawn was by far the most interested in helping me achieve what I wanted on my big day. She did a fantastic job of capturing the private moments between people, the connection and love between my groom and myself, and even the little moments you don’t expect.

Our wedding isn’t for another six weeks so all we’ve seen is our engagement shots; but we loved all of them.
