Connie Huizenga is a marvel! In the process of helping me pack up for a major move, she literally changed my life. Not only was she a master at helping me sort through a lifetime of possessions, but also – by knowing just what questions to ask and listening carefully and perceptively to the answers – she helped me learn how to keep alive the memories of important people in my life without having to keep all of their things: Consolidating three stuffed sewing kits from my mother and two grandmothers into one and giving it a place of honor on a shelf; saving a few pieces of sheet music instead of stacks and stacks of music books to remember the special place music has in my life and the people who gave me that gift; keeping and using a special coffee mug to remember a day with my mother, instead of putting it inappropriately on display. The experience was as much therapy as it was packing and organizing – in a very good way! I can’t thank her enough.
