Stayed at the Hilton double tree just a few blocks south and decided to give this place a try. It was a bit hard to find at first, but once inside I knew I was in for a treat. I order the bacon and cheddar breakfast sandwich with an iced coffee. The sandwich was outstanding. Delicious scrambled eggs and bacon with tomato and cheddar oozing from the bun; It was very filling. The coffee was dark matter which is always amazing, so this only added to the experience. I also got a glazed old fashioned donut which was warm and melted in my mouth. The staff was super friendly and inviting as well! I will definitely be back next time I’m in the city.

One of my favorite places in Chicago — HANDSDOWN! Always try to make a trip here as early as I can! A lot of the more popular ones are gone by 3pm! My favorites are the glazed and the pistachio! One donut is around $ 2 – 4, but I think it’s fair because the donuts’ size are definitely above average! The interior is really small. They have really narrow bars seating areas inside but they also have outdoor seating areas which is great for the summers. It can get pretty crowded. But if you want to eat inside, a big party is not a good idea. Now their fried chicken sandwiches are hands down one of the best in Chicago. The spicy chicken sandwich is amazing. The sandwich is topped with some slaw, and DATCRUNCHDOE(haha)! The fries were decent but definitely try the sandwich! One thing you should keep in mind is most of the good donuts are gone by 2−3pm! Another great tip is sometimes when you don’t see your favorite donut ask the employees, because sometimes(very rarely) they are making some in the back so they’ll grab it for you! I remember they ran out of glazed in the front, but they decided to make more with the jelly donut dough! Also there’s one particular employee there who is seriously one of the sweetest people I have ever encountered! I never was able to catch his name but he has brown hair and wears glasses. He is incredibly polite and so helpful! He’s always there when I stop in, so big thank you to that employee! You seriously brighten my day!

I was on Northwestern Hospital’s campus one morning and happened upon Do-Rite. Ordered the egg sandwich on a brioche bun, AND a glazed donut for dessert later in the day. I was hoping to sit there and eat while doing some work, but the space is small and the seating limited. There is only barstool seating against the wall during winter. Summertime offers outdoor space. Because Do-Rite feels pretty much like a «to-go» shop that is exactly what I did. Being on the hospital campus gives you plenty of lobbies and hidden nooks to sit down and eat so don’t be deterred if you were hoping to sit for awhile. I walked over to Prentice Women’s Hospital a couple blocks down and found an exquisite spot to eat and work remotely. The egg sandwich is large and brioche bun just my favorite. Given the bread itself can hover around 4 – 500 calories alone this sandwich sustained me until dinner. The vanilla bean glazed donut I saved for after dinner was so fluffy and yummy. I am not really a donut person like my dad is. He grew up with his mom fetching donuts from the local bakery every Sunday morning, and he upheld that tradition throughout my childhood and still does today. As a child our neighbors made homemade donuts and would bring us care packages filled with fresh donuts still warm from the fryer. I would sit on the porch eating a donut and listening to my dad and the neighbor, a Korean War vet, swap stories about their time in the service. When I went home for the holidays we had donuts from Greenbush Bakery in Madison, WI on the Sunday before I drove back to Chicago, and of course I was sent home with some excellent old fashioneds. All that is to say I think my dad would like the donuts at Do-Rite. When I go home next my dilemma will be whether to bring a dozen goodies from Stan’s, Doughnut Vault, Glazed and Infused, Firecakes, or Do-Rite… Chicago is certainly not lacking in good donuts. Doughnut Vault may win… If I find myself in this area for lunch I will definitely be stopping in for their chicken sandwich on brioche!

True Story: There is a reason this chicken sandwich ranked #1 in Chicago! It’s a well earned award and you will LOVE it. The bun, the slaw and the pickles unite on a sweet soft bun that practically melts in your mouth. Daaayum! I LOVE donuts and this review would not be complete without saying that the buttermilk old fashioned was epic; dense cake with a the slight sour taste of buttermilk and perfectly iced texture was mind blowing. I’m from Seattle and they don’t make donuts like this back home!

I tried Do-Rite Donuts and Chicken for the first time a couple of weeks ago. This is by far the best kept secret in Streeterville! Wow! Location/Décor — while the restaurant may be located inside one of Northwestern Memorial Hospital many building in my hood, I never once felt like I was in a hospital building while dining. The layout of the restaurant was tucked in the corner so it gets very cramped during peak hours. There are no tables except outside. Clearly when it is cold outside no one wants to sit out there. Service — the cashiers here are always so funny! Especially the gentleman with the glasses. I have gone twice since my initial visit, and the last two times, he has given me a free donut! Wow! Any donut of my choosing! Drinks — basic soda! The second time i visited the diet coke was flat and the ice was out, but again, I assume it was because I went during peak hours. Food — was INSANE. Well, except(ironically) the donuts. but other than that I enjoyed the chicken sandwich and fries VERY much! * French Fries — how can you not love fries?! 4.5 stars. One time I went they were very crisped and too salty, but the other two times were perfect! * CBR Sandwich(spicy). utterly divine to the tastebuds. 5 stars. Chicken is crispy, seasoned to perfection, juicy, spicy, hot. * Old Fashioned. 2 stars. Compared to others like Stan’s and Firecakes, you can definitely get better * Maple Bacon. Very nice! 4 stars. The donut itself is moist, the bacon is crisp and maplely, omg. perfect. * Lemon Pistachio. 0 stars. No. I was so confused. I tasted not one trail of lemon. I was expecting a strong lemon flavor so i was disappointed when I didn’t get it. You all NEED to try the chicken sandwiches. So random that a donut shop serves fried chicken sandwiches, but gosh. They do these very well.

The donut shop was a block away from my hotel so I definitely had to venture out and try a donut(or two) before leaving Chicago. My husband and I tried the raspberry-filled and a vanilla glazed donut. I liked that they weren’t overly sweet, but they were rather thick and too dough-y for me. Wish I had stayed long enough to try out the chicken sandwiches! Maybe next time.

The double chocolate old fashioned is my favorite donut in the world. It is good. Really really good. I have to intentionally block this place out of my mind because it’s only one block up from where I park and I would get one every day if I knew it wouldn’t make me blow up. I’ve also had the chicken sandwich. When I first looked at it, I thought it looked skimpy for the price but there was enough meat for every bite of bread and it was delicious down to the last bite. It’s small. Donuts are made in SMALL batches. Chicken sandwich made to order. Wait staff is super friendly.

Thank you fellow Unilocalers! We had just arrived in town for the Cubs Convention(GoCubsGo!) and decided to hit Do-Rite based off of all the positive reviews. Can 326 people be wrong? Um no. We had an original and a spicy chicken sandwich, along with fresh cut fries, slaw, and chocolate donuts. The chicken is large and juicy. The pickle and creamy slaw really completed the flavor profile. For far too many establishments, the bun is nothing more than an afterthought — merely a way to provide bleached-out bready handles for your food. But I dare say I might eat Do-Rite’s bun plain! They are fresh and soft, with just a subtle crispness. It really lets the flavor of the chicken shine. The fries are great. Thick and fresh cut. You can actually tell that they came from real potatoes. Slaw was fresh and sweet. The donut, of course, was awesome! We will be coming back!

Having now had their donuts, chicken sandwich, and a breakfast sandwich, I feel I can write a review under the same mandates that Phil Vettel does, namely that he visits the joint at least two times and tries a number of different things. The chicken sandwich($ 5) is the best around town I’ve had. It’s a Chik-fil-a style breaded fried affair with pickles and a light but mayo-like slaw. Soft chewy bun. Delish. I’d compare it to Roost’s sandwich but I can’t because Roost’s hot sauce was so hot I couldn’t taste anything… and I like hot. Had me the avocado cheddar breakfast sandwich($ 4.6) yesterday morning. For the price it’s quite a big and excellent sandwich. Their special mayo sauce makes it, gives it a pleasant and subtle flavor. I’ve stopped eating donuts but back when I had ‘em, I loved Do-Rite’s! That bacon maple cruller thing is crazy good but makes you feel sick it’s so greasy! I think their coffee is Intelligentsia, which is titŝ!

Was on vacay in Chitown and gotta say, I love donuts in Chitown. Just passing by Dorite at night one day while it was closed and said we gotta go back and try this place. Tried the pistacio and maple bacon. Both were extremely delicious. i enjoyed every bite. Very sweet and savoury. If I’m ever in Chitown again I’ll definitely be back for seconds.

***I had to fly all the way to Chi-Town from Cali to have best donut of my life*** The maple bacon donut here was ahhhhh-mazing. I actually stumbled upon this place after the donut place near my hotel sold out of their famous bear claw donut. I was disappointed on my last day in Chicago I would not be taking that delicious donut home with me. With only a few hours left before my flight, I hopped on my Unilocal app to seek out the best donut in Chicago, from the quick tips’ hype and the Unilocal star rating for Do-Rite Dounuts, I knew I had to make my journey to this place before I hop on my flight back to the San Francisco Bay Area. I walked in like a slobbering hound dog and there it lie, the ***MAPLEBACONDONUT*** ~~~Candied maple bacon donut, French cruller style donut dipped in maple glaze and covered in candied bacon~~~ I was I would have gotten more donuts to take back but I had limited room on my carry on, but I would’ve loved to try other donuts they had like Vanilla Bean Glazed Cinnamon Crunch or Pistachio-Meyer Lemon. My next trip back to Chicago I will make sure I get a dozen to take back home. If you are reading this and you live in Chicago, then stop reading this, and go try Do-Rite’s Maple Bacon Donut… Gooooo…Go Now!!!

4 Facts, 1 Question, 1 Assertion and 1 Philosophical Inquiry Facts: 1. Overindulgence in Donuts + Fried Chicken = Possible Diabetes or Heart Attack 2. Do-Rite and Chicken is an approximately 7 second walk across the street from Northwestern Memorial Hospital. It is a 5 second walk if you don’t bother looking both ways before crossing the street(it’s a one way street after all). 3. US News & World Report currently ranks Northwestern Memorial Hospital #7 in Diabetes/Endocrinology and #9 in Cardiology & Heart Surgery. Question: Is Do-Rite worth the increased health risk and certain destruction of misguided New Year’s Resolutions? Assertion: YES. Diabetes and Heart Disease are quite manageable these days. Plus, Northwestern. Philosophical Inquiry: If you don’t do right and take the risk to Do-Rite, have you really lived? Fact: 4. The answer is no. No you have not. Even Northwestern can’t fix existential crises.

This place is where gluten free dreams come true. There are multiple flavors of gluten free donuts, and each one is light and fluffy like you never imagined gluten free could be. The cinnamon sugar, chocolate, pistachio — I love them all! Although the cinnamon sugar is what I always go back to. It’s like Auntie Ann’s cinnamon sugar pretzel meets Dunkin Donuts’ donuts on steroids. And the donuts are so big, I almost always end up saving half for later. What’s more? They understand cross-contamination and ask if gluten free donuts need to be placed in separate bags and handled with fresh gloves. Thanks for being so aware, Do-Rite! Bonus: with the huge lines of people grabbing their early morning coffee and donuts, you’ll feel normal again. If you have celiac and miss donuts, this place cannot be missed. And tourists, this is right off Michigan Avenue so you have no excuse to not stop by!

I walked by this place on my way to the Nike store and I knew I had to make a stop back here before I left. Me and my gf ordered a half dozen. –Buttermilk Old Fashioned –Pistachio-Meyer Lemon –Chocolate Glazed –Chocolate Old Fashioned –Glazed Cinnamon Crunch –Candied Maple Bacon They were honestly all delicious, but the Buttermilk Old Fashioned is by far the best one! I will definitely come back here and try the rest.

Holy s$#$, this place is a RIPOFF. I went in to get a dozen donuts, the first time I was told they weren’t open even though the hours were clearly 630am — to whenever and it was after 630. The second time, I figured, ok I’ll try again This time I saw the prices. I was SHOCKED. For donuts… So I bought one. Wow. Crap.

Is a donut tour a donut tour if it only has two stops? Regardless, this was the first(the other one being Stan’s) — and I got a(seasonal) carrot cake donut with a $ 1 small coffee. Cake donuts can be dry, but this was moist enough without being like carrot cake itself. I appreciated the thin layer of glaze, because it meant I could spread the accompanying cream cheese frosting dollup with impunity. That said, I would probably need a couple donuts to be full for breakfast. Looking forward to trying their chicken sandwiches sometime!(And Do-Rite, it would be lovely if you had mini donuts to go with those!)

Bookmarked this place when I knew that we would be spending a week in Chicago. Came here for the donuts, but came away being more impressed with their chicken sandwiches. These are the donuts we ate during our trips here: Pistachio-Meyer Lemon was excellent. This lemon flavored cake donut with pistachio toppings was our favorite out of the 4 donuts we bought.(4.5 stars) Carrot Cake donut with cream cheese topping. I do not recall the name of this donut, but that is what I’m calling it. Tasted pretty good.(3.5 stars) Michigan Apple Fritter was above average. It was chewy and not overly sweet.(3.5 stars) Candied Maple Bacon was not as good as I imagined it would be. I love french cruller donuts so was excited to try this concoction. Unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. Not saying that it was bad. Just okay.(3 stars) Vanilla Bean Glazed Cinnamon Crunch was my second favorite. It looked like a basic ordinary crumb donut, but it was so much better than that. Tasted terrific!(4.5 stars) Now, onto the Chicken Sandwiches! Honestly, had no expectations about these sandwiches. Thought it would be bad because it’s coming from a donut shop. Fortunately, my wife was wanting to try a chicken sandwich since she is not as much a sweet tooth as I. First evening we went here, we tried their Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich. Oh my goodness, the fried chicken was crispy and full of flavor! Honestly, that was probably the best fried chicken sandwich that I’ve had ever!(5 stars) On a second visit, I ordered The Sweet Heat. Was very intrigued to try this fried chicken sandwich because it was on a glazed donut instead of a regular bun. Well, I have to say that it tasted quite interesting. It was sweet, and it was spicy all at the same time so the name is very appropriate. I preferred the regular spicy fried chicken sandwich on a bun though as opposed to on the glazed donut. Still yummy!(4 stars) Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken does both items right! Try them out for yourself when you are in Chicago. Would recommend coming to this specific location because not all of their locations make the Chicken sandwiches!

Amazing fresh homemade donuts with a variety of selection, get there fast or everything gets sold out. I got there a couple of hours after they had open for the day and several of their signature donuts were all gone. But the cinnamon one and the maple glazed one(their most popular) was amazing. So soft in the middle but perfectly glazed and crusted on the outside. I also followed with a hazelnut latte and that had nutella in it! I love nutella so naturally I loved the coffee as well. Excellent donut spot, a must try if you are ever in town!

DONUTS! I love donuts! I was very excited to see the ratings for this place since I haven’t really seen that for any place back home, in NY. We went at 10am and the line was already out the door. There are limited seating inside but there are some tables outside if you don’t mind sitting in the cold. I ordered the buttermilk old-fashioned donut. Although a little distorted in shape, it tasted amazing! Since it was my first time there, I wanted to try something traditional. It was very moist and tasty — not too sweet either. I also ordered a breakfast sandwich — the bacon sandwich with eggs and cheese. It’s not like any of those whack sandwiches where you barely have anything between the buns. This sandwich was stuffed with a generous amount of eggs and bacon! I was very satisfied. I’ll definitely be returning one day to try more donuts!

HOLYDONUTS, BATMAN! My friend convinced me to try Do-Rite when I mentioned that I was going to Stan’s. Ever the skeptic, I went in with suspended disbelief — especially since this place also sells fried chicken sandwiches. How could they possibly have delicious donuts? Well, it’s possible. And they do. Every donut I tried here was good. The cinnamon crunch(substantial!) the pumpkin donut with pumpkin cream-cheese filling(seasonal, so good and not too sweet!) and most especially the gluten-free blueberry lemon cornmeal donut with maple glaze. I think that was the best donut of my entire life… and I would like to take ten more. Right now. I will definitely make an effort to return the next time I’m in Chi-town, and the only knock I have is for the smell of fried chicken interfering with the deliciousness of the donut experience. Olfactory interference!
