Dragon Express

I love this place. Only thing I get is delivery with the three entrée combo. Fantastic, unbeatable value for 7.95. Yes, delivery can be slow, but it’s just something to know. Food is great, as long as you keep in mind you’re ordering cheap Chinese delivery. I like all of their chicken and beef options, and their crab ragoons. My favorites have to be bourbon chicken, honey chicken and bbq rib tips.

Coming from New York I’ve had a hard time finding Chinese food of the same caliber in Chicago. Sure, I could go to Chinatown, but what I really want is cheap and tasty food from a hole in the wall kind of place. The Unilocal reviews I read were unsettling but my roommates had ordered from here before and their food looked good so my friend and I got their lunch specials.
I got Kung Pao Chicken, an eggroll, chicken fried rice (+0.50), and a soda for $ 5.50
He got the same order except with Sesame Chicken. We also got Chow Mein (oddly GrubHub didn’t have Lo Mein) and a bag of 12 fortune cookies ($ 1.15).
We placed the order around 11:40 on a Thursday and the food came around 12:50, which was a long time, but within the time period they predicted.
The food was really f*cking delicious. There was actually a lot more food included that you usually get with lunch specials. The fried rice was really tasty and there was a lot of it. The eggrolls were also amazing. My Kung Pao chicken was packed with celery (a little too much in my opinion) but there were also tons of peanuts and baby corns. The flavor was great — enough chili peppers that my mouth and lips were tingly but not overwhelmingly hot. The chicken was also good and I didn’t have the problems with gristle or toughness that other reviewers did. My friend’s sesame chicken came covered in sesame seeds but the flavor was really good and there was a lot of chicken — also all well cooked. We were so full that we didn’t try the Chow Mein.
Basically, the delivery is a little slow but the portions are generous, the prices are really good, and the food that we got was very tasty. We’re definitely ordering from there again.
We also ordered from GrubHub and the prices/​some menu items on there were different from the restaurant’s online menu (which you can also order from online). We just didn’t want to use our credit cards on their site.

This place has terrible customer service. My husband ordered at 6:02pm, the food arrived at 8:22pm. We called before the delivery man arrived and the owner was confused about the situation. Then he informed us that he will speak with the driver. We still didn’t here from the owner until we called back. I told him we still haven’t received our order. He said We are under staff and due to the weather he had some difficulties. He failed to mention that we can called about our order. He didn’t give us our money nor discount. My husband and I had to call and file a complainant to Grubhub. Overall we will never order from them again.

Terrible service for delivery. Don’t trust the GubHub delivery estimates. GubHub gave me a time 1 hr and 10 min after I ordered. Try closer to 2 hrs for delivery!!! Totally unacceptable. When I complained to the delivery driver, he said he still had 8 more orders to deliver!
And the food? Weak. Nothing impressive. Had to pick out gristle, and tendons and uneatable stuff from two of the three entrees I ordered. Never seen so many green peppers in an order in my life. To make up for a lack of meat, clearly.

For Chinese delivery, it’s pretty good. I’ve had a lot worse. They have a good selection and their kung pao chicken actually has peanuts and chilis in it and isn’t dumbed-​down American Chinese. I did feel that the shrimp in lobster sauce could have had more shrimp in it, and the pot stickers are too doughy. But overall, this is well above average for outside Chinatown.

With a craving for egg foo young, I ordered from Dragon Express last night, and I can safely say that it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had.
1) The delivery was late.
2) The food was barely warm by the time I received it.
3) My craving for egg foo young was entirely unsatisfied considering they sent me shrimp in lobster sauce instead. The fucked up the only thing I ordered!
4) Upon calling the restaurant to notify them of their mistake, the phone rang and rang until I was told that the answering machine was full.
5) When I talked to them today, I was told that I did, in fact, receive their egg foo young. So I kindly pointed out that even the receipt in my hand said shrimp in lobster sauce. FINALLY they admitted that they were wrong. Did that help? NOT ONE BIT.
6) After all this shit, they refused to refund me my money for this terrible, terrible service.
I will never even consider this garbage restaurant again. They give zero shits about your happiness. This is a terrible business model, with ignorant and indignant employees.
DO NOT GIVE THIS SHIT HOLE YOUR MONEY

There’s a reason it’s so cheap. I found a pig fetus head cooked in with my pork. Lost all my appetite.

Saw this place online and took a chance. So glad I did. Best takeout in Hyde Park! I had the egg foo young and Bourbon Chicken. I will be ordering from Dragon Express again.

This place does not look like much but the food is the best the best thing to get is orange chicken I’ve been here several times well at least three times a week for orange chicken let’s be real. tops in Chicago Check it out call first so it’s ready for you when you go pick it up
