Drummond Montessori

My daughter goes to school here. She transferred over from another CPS school which was a nightmare. I am honestly so impressed by the staff and the entire Montessori system. I am happy my daughter has found this to be her new school home.
She comes home from school with a huge smile on her face everyday. She tells me with excitement how much she learned and how fun it was. For a third grader this is very exciting. I will update at the end of the year.

If I could give less than one star I would. The incompetence that abounds here amazes me, I won’t air dirty laundry but if anyone wishes to know more feel free to contact me.

I went to Drummond School in the early 70’s when recess was still part of the curriculum and gym was actually exercising. Gone are the days of the old school setting and the way we use to have the lunch lady Fran and Mary, push us through like cattle. Drummond School was the type of school that you wanted to get up in the morning and go to. It was just a very ordinatey school.
I went back to Drummond a few weeks ago for a visit. And although Drummond is still the same, it really has changed it up. Now considered a Monessori school and really hard to get into. I think most of the neighborhood is not even part of this marvelous experience. The teachers are now younger and the classroom sizes are smaller. This is a good thing I think of course because that way the kids get a stronger education. Although back in the day it still was the place to get a good education. The teachers back than cared and my kindergarten teacher is now the main kinder teacher. It was awesome to see her and the fact that Drummond still has many of its original traits is also a plus. What a wonderful time this was and is.

My brother’s daughter is enrolled at the Montessori and she is the best kid ever. I am pretty sure this Montssori is actually a PUBLIC school and gets funding from the government. Such a great idea! As an aunt you might say I’m biased but after learning about the program she is in, I can see how any child can benefit from independent learning and setting their own goals and talking about them. My brother is actively involved in the school and they encourage the parents to participate inthe program and the childrens’ learning process. I wish every kid in Chicago had a Montessori program because it has done wonders for my little niece. If you are looking for a preschool for your toddler, look into the Drummond school.
