This review is for the Internet site, as I’ve not ever seen these guys in person or at their storefront. I picked up a coupon from a groupon-type site to try the shampoo/conditioner no-bottle gift set. Vegan, not tested on animals, environmentally friendly hair care? Sure, sounds great! The products shipped quickly and came in a cute gift box. I didn’t get around to using them for a bit, as I had other products already opened, but today I cracked open the plastic wrap and gave them a try. First off, the smell is just *divine*. I was in love when I started lathering up the shampoo. It’s weird to feel like you’re washing your hair with a bar of soap, but that’s where the similarity ends. This stuff bubbled like crazy and the smell was amazing(yet not overpowering). It rinsed out cleanly and my hair felt squeeky clean. The conditioner bar also lathered up like soap, which I found very odd. I was originally wondering how it would work as a bar, but it actually did ok. It too smalled wonderful. I was a bit less pleased with the end results of the conditioner as it didn’t do well for detangling, but the overall feel of my hair afterwards made up for it. I had to use a bit of moisturizer spray to get a comb through afterwards, but I was still happy with the final result. I’d be quite happy to purchase more of their products as I need to restock. Their website says they’re distributed at Whole Foods as well as given the option to shop online from their site. The site doesn’t indicate the shipping cost until you fill in your information though. I’ll be checking my local Whole Foods to see if they’re available, as I can support their cause and ethical practices.

I stumbled into these guys at pitchfork festival and have been a big fan ever since. The first thing I bought was the Black and Tan soap bar. Lets just say if they could find a way to offer samples of how it smells over the internet, it would always be sold out. I bought it for a friend who is a beer lover but we ended up keeping it because it smelled so good. We did end up getting the chicago flag soap the next time and gave that as a gift, though. The owner, Jack, spent some time explaining to me how they do business and what they are all about, and that really makes a difference to me. Definitely a local company I am proud to support.
