This is a great gallery space. I visited a friend’s artist exhibition several months ago and was highly impressed, both by the work showcased and the gallery itself. The exhibition consisted of numerous contemporary mediums ranging from oil paintings to letterpress. Overall, the layout of the large gallery worked well for trafficking through the two story exhibit. Upon leaving, I desperately wanted to become an art buyer.

Just an FYI–
Flatfile has moved to a larger and more fantastic space on Carpenter (217 North Carpenter between Lake and Fulton Mkt.). They have also expanded their scope to include more than just photo work (although they still do that very well). They have paintings, drawings, sculpture, and textiles as well as photography.
I can’t officially review them b/​c my husband is the gallery manager, but from one totally biased non-​reviewer, it’s a great gallery (and the manager is pretty neat.).

This is one of the few Chicago galleries promoting digital work. Although its basis is traditional photography, most exhibitions also include new media, interactivity and digital imaging.
