Cindy(owner), It’s very unfortunate you decided to end our time at Fortunate Discoveries in such a way. We are a small business of three artists that decided to leave our space in your store after our lease ended due to the lack of sales compared to the rent being paid. We gave the full two-month notice we were leaving, and made you aware we would be removing our product on the 31st. To our extreme surprise, we arrived at your store will ALL of our pieces spread around the store in other artists booths and a new artist already moved into our space. How dare you!!! I don’t think you could have been more disrespectful to our work and us. Our $ 200 handmade cutting boards piled in the middle of the floor, our $ 300 handmade pillows leaning against a dirty trunk, and a $ 2800 table in the middle of another booth. The hours that are spent designing and making each piece are endless, and your gesture of shoving $ 70 coasters into a tiny canister was mind blowing. What exactly was your purpose for doing this? Also, I’ve noticed in the past six months that almost every artist is different from when we moved in, so I can only conclude they, too, did not make a profit. If each artist is paying you an average of $ 300 a month, do you even care to promote your store and sell product? According to our contract, we moved into our space on 8÷4÷15(because it was still occupied by another artist), which then in return means we actually have the space until 2÷4÷16. Your actions towards us and our pieces are so unprofessional. We will be sure to spread this across the artists’ community. You do not deserve to be apart of a community where we support each other. YOUARE A SCAM. Meg SOLO Home Design

This place is absolutely amazing! Having frequented over 300 micro gallery showrooms across the United States, this one ranks #1! Very clean, organized, roomy & inviting space. The interior design is beautiful. You will find many unique, one of a kind treasures that make perfect gifts & conversation pieces and you never have to worry about anyone having the exact same item. Cindy, the owner is very hospitable and she knows her business inside and out. I can spend an entire day here roaming from one awesome micro gallery to the next and feeling good buying local and keeping my dollars in the United States to bolster the economy. I highly recommend paying Fortunate Discoveries a visit! 5 stars across the board. This place has a perfect rating of 5 stars on every review, that says alot

This is a gem of a store! It’s like many boutiques in one place. Artists display a space in the store designated specifically for their treasures. You walk from one interesting artist’s work to another. And the variety is fantastic — vintage clothes, original hand sewn clothes, unique jewelry, handbags that you’d never find in a department store, artwork. I can go on and on. So far I’ve bought a funky black knit skirt made out of t-shirt material with a light blue panel down the front with a dog graphic. I get so many compliments. From the same artist I purchased 3 long sleeve t-shirts with unusual graphics on the front(like a buddha!). I love my cross body hemp purse — perfect for running around on the weekend. The crème del a crème was the vintage 50’s dress I bought for a special wedding. I had SO many people at the reception telling me how fantastic the dress was! I felt like a movie star! So go! You’ll find something for you and surely find a gift for someone special. PS — Fortunate Discoveries is 500% more unique than a certain boutique store down the street on Armitage(initials: AE).

This is my new favorite store! Fortunate Discoveries displays local, Chicago fine artisans, designers & specialty retailers(fashion, clothing, pottery, accessories…) in Lincoln Park, just a couple blocks west of Sheffield(and the Brown/Purple el stop) on Armitage. Being a creative person myself, I really appreciate all the different types of products sold in this store and a plus, it supports fellow, creative Chicagoans. I discovered Fortunate Discoveries a couple weeks ago, walking home from the Armitage el. I decided to take a slightly different route home and found this unique shop. It has beautiful, unique jewelry, great art, awesome pottery, and some really great gift ides! I ended up buying a cool looking ring, fun pot holders for a friend(who loves to cook) and a vase for my living room. I plan to go back again and again. I also will like to check out their First Fridays which is the First Friday of every month, later store hours, wine, art/design and mingling with some of the artists and vendors. It is just a couple blocks West of Sheffield, so I fear that it is just off the beaten shopping path, people may miss it. I would love for this place to succeed, so check it out! It just might be your new favorite store too!
