First time here and I really dogged the ambiance of the joint. Nice to have some drinks and chit chat with some friends. They were playing quite the variety of music, which is nice. Service was great! I had a great evening here.

This was my first stop when I came to town for the weekend to visit a friend, it was very laid back and we brought an uno deck as we drank and snacked on our food. The service was great and the prices reasonable. But the only reason I thought to write a review is because the employees were nice enough to not throw us out or get upset with us when we accidentally dropped a shot glass and had a beer spill while playing pool, we were not drunk whatsoever and felt bad about breaking the glass but they were not upset.

I reserve this as a suggestion for my toughest, laid-back, no frills customers. Quirky date? Yes. Old friend? yes. New friend? Yes. Bar crawl? Yes. And the little girl’s picture on the ladies restroom door looks just like me as a child. If I were born in the 50s. Great beer list, especially if you like local stuff(bottles and draft), and I noticed they have a bunch of Belgium stuff that I learned on my beer tour in Brussels this summer(abbey, tripel, etc.). This might sound like a weird recommendation, but it’s a hit during Lent for us old school Catholics because of the fish and chips and grilled cheese. Side note: It also draws an interesting crowd. I was on a quirky first date with a Russian spa manager(?!), and we got sucked onto a Brown Line bar crawl — that we joined. This turned into one of my favorite events of last summer.

I had never been to Four Moon Tavern, but on a bitterly cold Chicago night my best friend and I popped in for a few beers. Suffice to say we got more than we bargained for, a killer beer menu, awesome company and a completely off the hook food menu. The music, clientele and vibe were AWESOME! Best part of all, this place has had the best Golden Marble I’ve ever had, wanna get knocked on your ass??? Just ask for Nikki, she’ll be happy to push. This place rooles, five *****‘s.

GREATFOOD, Good Beer, Reasonable Drinks and Friendly people what more do you need for a local watering hole! I love this place and continue to go because of the reasons mentioned above and it’s super casual which is nice especially when you don’t feel like getting all dolled up ;) FYI: I’m a country girl and love a good meatloaf-the«loaf» at this place isn’t too shabby and the fries(googly eyes) soooo damn good…

There is only one reason I don’t give this bar that 5th star, and it’s the bathroom. A onesie bathroom in a bar is inexcusable in my eyes. You know people go to the bathroom a lot when they’re drinking! Otherwise, I love this place. I’ve only been a few times, but each time I loved it so much. I don’t know the bartenders, it’s not my local, and it’s not even a regular stop in my life. But it always feels comfortable and welcoming, and I love that.

This place is a small, quaint, neighborhood bar that typifies the«regular» crowd. The food is really good, especially the Friday fish and chips special(year round) and the Nachos. Actually, these are some of my favorite nachos in the city because almost every chip is covered with toppings. The small size nachos is perfect for 1 – 2 people if you want to get a main meal as well — the large comes in a gigantic bowl that can easily serve 4 – 5. The prices are good and the beers on tap change regularly, which keeps it interesting. They usually have a season Three Floyds and Revolution on tap, sometimes only a few kegs of each, so you have to catch it at the right time. Only con is that it’s pretty small and the seating is somewhat cramped in the bar area, though they do have a bigger restaurant seating area in the back if you’re looking for a quieter space. I’ve lived in Roscoe for a few years and I keep coming back!

This place is a neighborhood favorite. Think hopleaf but more casual without sacrificing on taste. Food’s great too. Also the kitchen is open until midnight which is nuts and pretty much puts it up against Burrito House in the neighborhood for late night eats. Which obviously means Four Moon is winning.

I’ve only been a few times. But it’s a great local pub. Lots of beer on tap and decent specials. Staff and patrons are always welcoming. Has some nice outdoor seating space in the front.

Love this place, as I’ve been coming to it for years! It’s sorta got that Cheers vibe, where everyone knows your name. It’s not a place to order a fancy martini, so if that’s your gig, I’d recommend going elsewhere. Robbie, the bartender, makes all of the food fresh and you can tell it’s seriously homemade. I recommend smash browns for brunch and big salad(Seinfeld style), perogies, tomato soup, pizza, fish and chips and grilled cheese for grub. Great beers on tap and pretty damn good Bloody Marys(not mix… Homemade) on Saturday and Sunday brunch are a must! Nikki is a bartender, and she, along with the pool table and sweet juke box tunes make this the perfect dive bar. They’ve also outdoor seating in the summer and welcome canine pals!

Stopped here on a whim with my wife the other night. We were picking up our car from the shop and looking for a place to eat in Roscoe Village, so we turned to our trusty friend Unilocal. Saw some good reviews and decided to give it a shot. As we neared, saw it from the outside and it looked a bit like a house converted into a bar. It looked inviting, but I was a little suspicious that I might get the kind of meal there that I was hungry for. We checked back with Unilocal and you good people assuaged me, so we headed in. To borrow a Dutch word, Four Moon Tavern is gezellig. The atmosphere was great, warm, inviting, and it felt like a hidden gem tucked away on a residential street. The music selection was some post-punk, and the waitress, Nicki, who took our order was friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome there. The food was unpretentious, fresh, and fantastic. We started with an order of crab cakes which were excellent. It was served on some leafy greens and topped with a delicious creamy red pepper sauce. We were both impressed from the get-go. My wife had the grilled cheese which was amazing and I had the cheeseburger which was juicy and delicious. The fries were also cooked to perfection and I was salivating from the scent of them in the air long before our meals arrived. To top it off, they had a very nice beer selection with quite a few beers I hadn’t tried before. Bottom line is that Four Moon offers a fantastic meal, good beer, quality service in a unique friendly setting unlike many other bars in Chicago. I’ll be back.

I’m sorry Four Moon Tavern. I’m sorry that I have lived so close for 4 years, yet failed to truly appreciate you. I’m sorry that I have eaten there numerous times, yet not appreciated your food. I’m sorry I’ve taken your good beer selection, friendly bartenders, and jovial neighborhood vibe for granted. Four Moon is a shining gem buried within the confines of the friendly west Lakeview and east Roscoe Village streets of Damen and Lincoln. It is an easy-going, low key bar reflective of the neighborhood it serves. The bar maintains a significantly above average selection of beers relative to it’s other neighborhood/corner bar competitors. What makes this place so special is the food. The food isn’t fancy or anything special. It is simply regular pub food made from scratch. They use few frozen or processed ingredients. It wasn’t until Sunday night when I picked up a burger to go that I realized how amazing the food truly is. The burger was juicy and succulent, topped with my choice of cheddar, and served with fries cut in house. It is one of the most simply satisfying and tasty burgers you can have. You must try the burger! Go for the beer and stay for the food!

Another great place in my neighborhood! The food is outstanding and surprising for a local pub. Different nightly specials. Always a good craft beer on special and a nice selection on booze. The staff is so freaking nice too! The crowd is neighborhood folks but not too Roscoe Village ish. It’s a little more chill. I love the wooden décor. Makes me feel like I’m in the UP! This is now a weekly stop for us. Well done! :)

This is my favorite bar, and my greatest sadness is that I can’t go here all the time. The beer is great. The food is even better. Yes, a kinda divey bar with awesome, AWESOME, food. There are few better low-key saturday night date ideas than Four Moon for some drinks and a delicious blackened fish sandwich. Also fish and chips. And, surprisingly, the gyro. And the nachos! My husband loves the nachos. Not to mention the atmosphere in here is just great. Perfect little neighborhood bar– relatively quiet, friendly and helpful staff, easy parking, and they are always happy to change the tv if you ask. I love this place. And I wish I could have some fish and chips for dinner right now.

Cozy local neighborhood bar with a pool table and great menu. I have the homemade tomatoe soup and grilled cheese with ham. Both were very good and fairly large portions of food. My boyfriend had the mushroom and meat pierogi, which were no different then buying from the store, but really enjoyed their Sunday special– pot roast. We will definately be back here again.

Love coming to this neighborhood bar when visiting my cousin. The bartenders are always so much fun, and surprisingly the food is wonderful. The reason I say surprisingly is because I have never thought much of bar food, but they have daily specials and the food is good. Large portions too. My favorite bartender is Tosha.

Met a friend here for an early dinner and a couple beers on a Tuesday afternoon. When walking up from the brown line I almost walked right by the place. It really feels like a neighborhood bar/pub. It was pretty empty, but that was probably due to being there so early. The weather was nice so we sat outside. Let’s see here, beer selection was good though they were out of what I wanted. The bartender was pretty knowledgeable about their beers which is always nice. I had a burger which was quite big and cooked properly. Definitely made from scratch and not a frozen hockey puck. The toppings were fine and the bun was almost a large dinner roll. I liked it. The fries look to be handcut, but are pretty thick and were not crispy. Everything did come out hot and fresh though. Aside from the lackluster fries, I wasn’t crazy about the other options on the menu. A Reuben would be an excellent addition I think.(If I missed it I’m sorry! I’ll edit the review later). The lady who was working the bar and waited on us was very pleasant and seemed to genuinely care that we were enjoying out visit. I really like places that are true to themselves and fit in well rather than catering to the pretentious hipster crowd. Definitely worth a return trip.

«Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name.» And if that’s the case — head to Four Moons Tavern! This was my go-to neighborhood spot when I lived in Roscoe Village. Between the down to earth, «known you for years» staff, awesome comfort food, and cheap beer… this is a great place to become a «local». At this cozy spot you can relax at a table outside, post up at the bar(like we usually did), or play some pool. The back room is more intimate with tables and a couch and makes for a great date night. I’ve eaten here a number of times & have tried the quesadilla, marinated chicken gyros sandwich, nachos, char-grilled burger, beer battered fish and chips, classic homemade sloppy Joe, the big salad and their pirogues. While all these selections did not disappoint, my ultimate favorite meal at Four Moons is their Meatloaf Sandwich. This perfected home cooked meatloaf is served on either a roll or toast(your choice) with lettuce, tomato, mayo & fries and oh man… is it out of this world! They also serve brunch on Sundays and although I’ve never been, but I’ve heard it’s quite spectacular(and probably the perfect hangover cure!). Of course I don’t just venture on over to this local tavern for food, we make sure to quench our thirst as well when we’re here. They have a full bar along with 11 beers on tap, 41 bottles and 14 different cans. Now that’s a selection! Looking to nail down your go-to«spot» on the north side? Four Moons will welcome you with open arms! Plus, they have a food and drink special for every day of the week. Gotta love that!

I’m pretty old. Twelve or fifteen or even twenty years ago I’d have been a bunch more enthused about spending too many hours at a place like Four Moon. But we don’t really go out drinking any more. Still, I can appreciate from a Sunday evening dinner there that it looks like a great lowlit, timeless barroom, with good music on the sound system, loads of neighborhood tavern atmosphere, and friendly good times. Hell, if I were going there to drink, I could see it being a five-star kind of place. But we were staying in the neighborhood and read up on neighborhood places to have a somewhat late casual meal, and the reviews of Four Moon Tavern suggested that it had really good pub food as well. On that score, Four Moon was pretty damn disappointing. In fact, the meatloaf sandwich I ordered was one of the least appetizing things I’ve had in a restaurant in a while: It was more meat-mush or meat-paste than meatloaf, squishing out of the bun when you tried to chomp through it. Just a complete mess. And almost flavorless. Wife’s chili was OK, but overly sugary. Brother-in-law ordered a burger, and that item looked big and worthwhile. Handcut fries looked better than they tasted, i.e., warmed over for too long. Decent beer selection, and on the night we were there, efficient if rather grumpy service. Four to five stars for the barroom. But closer to two for our food on this night. That’s not all that great an average.
