Love this place. One of the weirdest bars in Chicago and one of the best — if not the best — dive bars on the North Side. This is a really fun bar to go to if you and your group of friends are looking to get completely blasted at a place with a fun, diverse crowd and an ‘anything goes’ atmosphere.

The bartenders are excellent, the atmosphere is homey but they’re not afraid to turn up. Great neighborhood spot, they’ve been around for years for a reason. Highly suggested :)

I moved into the neighborhood on July 1st, and Friar Tuck was my favorite bar by the 15th of the month. I will always choose a dive bar over something classier(maybe it’s me trying to stay young forever? Maybe because I’m still a hot mess at my age? Who knows?), and Friar Tuck fits the bill as a dive bar. The interior has an intimate, cozy feel, without being stuffy or pretentious. As cliché as it sounds, I walk in and feel like I’m at my second home. All of the bartenders are fantastic. Being a repeat customer, it’s always a good feeling to be recognized by friendly faces. Mixed drinks are strong and there’s always a special involving lemonade and some sort of flavored vodka, which changes monthly(I believe?) The on-draft beer selection isn’t fantastic, but that’s to be expected at a dive. They do have a slightly larger selection of bottles. Prices are good. CASHONLY! I’m very happy to have such a great bar within 2 blocks of home!

Awesome little neighborhood bar. Great place to watch the football game. Bartenders and other patrons are super friendly. One of my new favorite stops in the area

Great dive bar! Cash only, service is ok when they’re busy, great when they’re a little slower. Small dance floor and a juke box if you feel the need to get your groove on.

this place is amazing! Always a fun time, always a crazy crowd. They have $ 7 mini pitchers of Miller lite when a bottle is $ 4. Always an interesting group. they have a lot of regulars and seems like a lot of events. One of the bartenders will be super mean if you don’t know what you want. good tunes, good time, it’s a party!

Stopped in here a few years ago and had a blast. I think it was the barrel shaped door that intrigued my wife and I. Brion, the bartender at the time, introduced himself and ask our names. Then he would introduce us to everyone else in the bar by name creating conversations and instant friends. What a neighborhood dive bar is meant for. Well, as of our most recent trip, it has now become a tradition for my wife an I to pop in. Spent this past early Saturday afternoon sipping on 312 beer and a round of shots with Manager/Bartender Kim. We shot the shit, talked some shit and got a good start on our Saturday. Cash only and no nonsense kind of a place. See you next time I’m in town Friar Tuck!

A Lakeview classic. Great juke box, a fun dance floor and strong drinks. The staff can be less than friendly and it’s cash only but it’s worth it. :)

One of the best dive bars in Lakeview. Free popcorn and solid beer selection but its ca$h only. You’ll always have a good time but nothing out of the ordinary. The interior decorations are interesting too. Lot of stuff on the wall.

This place is just ok. I get it, it is a dive bar. I was not expecting much. However, this place was OVER packed. I think they ironically hung a fire code sign on the wall. It said no more than 50. From my vantage point, I counted double the amount. It is a bar, I know, but it was so uncomfortable. The music was also weird. Once second it was upset and then the next three songs made me want to sleep.

My score is the average of their winter and summer scores. Summer, 2 stars, winter is 4. Why the difference? Firerplace.(Yeah, a fireplace is worth 2 stars. I love fireplaces.) Other than that, this place is no big whoop. There are 5 better dive bars within a 5-minute walk. Other than the lady bartender, the service isn’t that great. Not a huge fan of the crowd. No food. And the karaōke is weak. I’m not a fan of karaōke anyway, but when I have been here on karaōke nights(hopefully never again) it just wasn’t fun. I’d much, much rather go across the street to Monsignor Murphy’s or a couple blocks over to Jake’s or Parrots.

Bartender was rude and acted as if my order wasn’t large enough. Ordered a few shots and a beer and the bartender said«is that it?». Will not return.

Dive bar. Free popcorn. Cash only. Shaped like a barrel. I’ve been going to Friar Tuck for almost 7 years now. It always busy, but you can still move around. Slap down some cash, get a beer, and relax. Go here to hang out and relax. Go here to chat with friends. Go here for a beer after a long night or a big event. Don’t go here to pick up a lady(or a guy). Don’t got here for a cocktail. Don’t go here without cash. Oh, and they have some decent karaōke on Wednesday and Thursday!

Not a bad atmosphere for a bar but I really hate it when a place is cash only. I don’t carry much cash on me and they didn’t tell us until after we waited to order our drinks. There may be a sign somewhere but I didn’t see it and if there isn’t a sign then there needs to be.

I have loved Friar Tuck for many years. But I just spent some time there and had a bad experience. We played music on the juke box and it took a very long time to hear our songs. My Chief Keef song came on and the bartender skipped it. She proclaimed that she didn’t want to hear that«niggas and bitch» stuff on Thanksgiving. I was disturbed to hear her using the n-word, but she kept repeating it. She offered me my dollar back, but I was too upset.

A neat sports bar in the heart of Lakeview. Friendly staff offers solid service. Decent selection of tap beers. Various drink specials make this establishment a potential destination for any night of the week. Definitely worth a stop!

The karaōke guy on Wednesdays is terrible. He is clearly not happy when people can’t sing and are just out to to have fun. He is sitting at the bar singing while others have requested and want to sing.

We walked in on a whim. My friend had gone past it many a time and she was intrigued. So we walked in not knowing what we would find. Bar itself had an interesting smell. After a bit, we got used to it. It has the feeling of a neighborhood dive bar, which I loved. The bartenders were attentive and super nice. Granted there weren’t many other customers in the bar. Either way, it was fun all around. And free popcorn!!! Always a win in my book. Oh. And if you go on Sunday night, be prepared for some karaōke. Took us by surprise. Also be prepared for some folks to just have a good time with it and others to take it super seriously.

Ewwww, ewww, ewww!!! I have been to many dive bars, but not all of them smell like this one does. We went there for some good olé’ day drinking(and cheap) and we went here. Not a lot of people were here, which was fine. The bar smells like burned popcorn(and the bathrooms smell worse than that. Just hold your nose, trust me). We had a couple of beers each for pennies(that part is awesome) and left. I don’t think I will ever step foot here again. I am just too old…

A friend of mine comes here quite often and has been trying to get me to come, but it just never appealed to me. Once I walked in I looked around and it looked exactly how I thought it would look. Holiday lights all over the place and the fact that it was a dive. Our waitress was funny and nice and made sure we got out $ 3 Shiners. We had about 3 rounds and left as it just was not my scene. free popcorn was nice though. Definitely some characters that frequents this joint.
