Update: FUNdamentals closed down this fall… so sad… The playroom is great and offers an escape from rainy days and wet slides. This session ends at the end of May before the summer closing, but we send our kids there the rest of the time it is open. Misti is great and incorporates reading, clean up and some structured play into the time. The price is reasonable, the location is convenient to Lincoln Square, and we’ve met a lot of neighborhood moms, kids and caregivers through the playroom.

If you’re looking for an affordable indoor playroom for your young kids during the dreary Chicago winter months, this is the place for you. They just dropped their prices by 30% so it really is a much more affordable alternative to parent-toddler classes. The director, Misti Peppler, has 3 toddlers of her own, and she’s really great with the kids. The toys are educational, and there are lots of creative outlets for kids to have fun while learning. It definitely beats putting on yet another DVD to pass the time while we wait for the crocuses to bloom. Also, if you’re a new parent who’s running out of ideas of what to do with your kid at home, this is a good place to learn some simple somewhat structured things that you can do w/your child on a daily basis. Here are the winter hours which start this Saturday(Jan. 6th): Tuesdays: 3:30−5pm Wednesdays: 9:30−11am Fridays: 9:30−11am Saturdays: 10:30-noon The new pricing as of Jan 2007 is as follows: $ 8 drop-in fee per family $ 65 for a 10-visit pass $ 30 for a 4-visit pass Edit 6÷5÷2007: Please note that the playroom is closed for the summer, but they are meeting at different parks each week, so check out their park schedule on their website!
