A co-worker brought her grilled cheese back to the office, it looked and smelled delicious. So I went to get my own and I will not be returning. Absolutely tasteless and the texture was mushy. The worst part was the price, $ 10.50 for bread, cheese, tomato and a bottle of water.

Pretty good sandwich! The size is perfect for lunch, nice and medium sized so it won’t make you want to take a nap at your desk. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because I think it was a little pricey for Grilled Cheese(although I did add two items). Other than that, there was a really nice flavor, not heavy like a normal grilled cheese

This place is so overpriced for a small piece of cheese slapped on two pieces of bread. Totally over rated. For that price I would rather make my own«gourmet» cheese sandwich at home.

This is a nice looking little place with friendly service and it didn’t take long for my sandwich to be prepared. I got the Little Italy sandwich and a bag of chips, which came to almost $ 12 total. The cheese is tasty and perfectly melty, and the bread and pepperoni are good too. The quality is definitely very high. Unfortunately it’s just not very big for the price. $ 9 for a sandwich that will barely keep me satisfied until I get home from work is too much. They want $ 5 for a cup of tomato soup, which is just absurd. I have a feeling most of my future visits will be driven by avoiding bad weather.

There aren’t too many places you can get gourmet specialty grilled cheese sandwiches, and this place definitely fits the bill. I’ve gotten the breakfast sandwich, the duke, and the little italy. All were very good and good sized. Albeit a bit pricey. They also serve coffee and cookies and chips though I haven’t had any of them yet. The lady who runs it is very friendly and talkative. I may stop by again in the future

I went to a Junior League event at Salvage One where Gayle’s Grill Cheese was served. Delicious!!! The ingredients used was very fresh.

Best grilled cheese Ever! The staff here, including Gayle herself, are incredibly welcoming and warm. This is a true gem in the loop where heart goes into every sandwich that is sourced locally from farmers markets which makes it even better. I love the classic and the Duke. Amazing!

The sandwich was really good. So was the soup. The portions were small however for the price. I paid $ 13 bucks for a grilled cheese and a cup of soup. Over priced

I overheard someone in line ahead of me order the duke(Swiss cheese, ham, and poblano mustard). It sounded really tasty, so I ordered the same thing. It was delicious! I rushed back to my office so the sandwich was still warm and the cheese still gooey; on the other hand, the samples that they offer had been sitting out for a bit so the bread was hard and not as tasty. Ideally, you’d want to eat it there but the restaurant doesn’t have much seating. You should expect a slight wait because your sandwich is grilled upon order, but it’s definitely worth it.

From their success as a food truck, and their booths at various food coalitions and farmer’s markets, Gayle’s is finally brick-and-mortar, and just as delicious. Located in the pedway – the basement of Block Thirty Seven – their list of grilled cheese sammies reads like a craft beer list: creative, frequently changing, but keeping the ‘classics.’

Late Night Snack at a wedding? You betcha! We hosted an elegant wedding for our daughter in December. I knew Gayle’s from the summer farmers’ markets and thought it would be a great low-key offset to the elegance of the wedding. Gayle knocked it out of the park. She set up her regular farmers market stand and dished out all sorts of flavors of her great grilled cheese. The aromas wafted throughout the venue. She was able to keep up with the demand with all of her assorted sandwiches. And don’t forget the tomato soup. Everyone loved it.

My uncle was able to get a gayles booth at my Cousin’s wedding as the late night snack. It was absolutely delicious, and I often tasted that sought after frico burnt(in a good way) cheese flavor, memorable and delicious. If their location is like the booth it is a keeper.

Best grilled cheese ever! I even brought the bread, cheese and ham and still can’t make it as good as Gayle. Maybe the secret is the butter? Her stand is always at Logan Square and a must have every time. I also love she supports local, smaller companies. Sure it’s 6 – 9 bucks depending on the sandwich but not to worry, they are not shy with the cheese. Once I made my own, I realized how much cheese is in there!

Had a sammich at the Farmer’s Market today. Smelled good. Nothing else sounded better. There was a line. I was sold. All the menu choices sounded delish. My friend and I both picked the Italian version. It was $ 9. I thought for $ 9, it would be amazing. It had better be, for $ 9, right? Without any sides? And not with service, a beverage, or, you know, chunks of gold or emerald bits included? Well, it was delish. About, maybe, $ 4 worth of delish. $ 9? Absolutely not. It was crispy cuz they used one o’ them fancy-schmancy panini presses that make ridges on the bread. And the bread was great, fresh and sour, like I like. There was a faint taste of the promised 3-cheese garlic spread, and a little tomato, some very nice pepperoni. The cheese was creamy and melty. A very nice sandwich. For $ 4. $ 5 max; the tax was included, after all. But it was small. Oh, so woefully small. It was a snack. Not lunch. We were both still hungry, but alas, who wants to spend more money for more lunch when you’ve already spent $ 9 on a sammich that probably cost all of 50 cents to make? If I hadn’t also bought an amazing toffee cookie from another booth, I’d have starved to death. Don’t be fooled by the tempting smells, the lines of eager sammich buyers, and the luscious-sounding menu. For $ 9, you could make a dozen equally yummy but probably considerably larger, grilled cheese sandwiches in the privacy of your own office. For the $ 18 we spent today, we could have bought a panini maker and made our own sammiches in our office! I learned a hard lesson today. I hope I can save others from the heartbreak I suffered. (Maybe they’re better in the other location.) That is all.

Yum! I discovered Gayle’s at the Daley Plaza Farmer’s Market on Thursdays last year. I’m so excited she’s in the lower level of Block 37 this month. These are excellent grilled cheese sandwiches. I’ve only gotten the original because it’s just so good. The chips are pretty good, but I’d recommend sharing a bag with a friend because you get a lot. The sandwiches are made with a panini press and have those perfect panini lines and the crust gets that perfect crunch and the cheese is gooey and it’s the perfect size sandwich in that you don’t feel disgustingly full after you eat it.

Gayle’s is located in the Block 37 Pedway at 108 North State. Currently the menu consists of a few soups, homemade chips, beverages like Coke and water(Unless it’s house-made, coffee or tea involved, I usually don’t pay much attention) and of course grilled cheese sandwiches. I went with the original which is Butterkase cheese on sourdough. It was an average sized/looking sandwich but when you bite into it, you know that you’re biting into some quality cheese and bread. I love cheese enough to indulge. I love that Gayle’s uses local ingredients like bread from Bennison’s Bakery in Evanston and Butterkase cheese from Prairie Pure Farm in Belvidere. As for the space itself, it’s pretty small but there’s like two tables with two chairs at each. I was also told that cookies and coffee would be coming soon, this week I believe. The staff was pretty nice and prices start at $ 6 for sandwiches and $ 5 for soups.
