Employees are nice, but act like robots. They won’t give you helpful suggestions and won’t let you know if something is going to look bad. If you want a simple cut, great; if you actually want a specific cut or style, they will not do a good job. They are not paid to make you look good. They are only paid to cut hair.

I’ve lived in the city for a while now, but never ventured out to find a place to get my hair cut. I visited GC a lot when I lived out in the burbs and being on a very tight budget, decided to give this one a shot. I’m very happy I did. First off, there was a promotion for a 5.99 haircut. It boggles my mind people spend over $ 40 for a cut, but must be nice for them. Anywho, Rebecca was the one cutting my hair and she did a wonderful job. I brought in a picture of what I wanted, she complemented the style, and went right to work. She asked be how short I wanted it to be a few times, and giving some recommendations along the way. When I’ve visited other GC locations, I felt as if the haircut was pretty rushed, and while she did get it done in a quick time, she also made sure it was turning out the way I wanted it to. At the end of it all, she also recommended me products, but didn’t push me to buy anything from the salon, which is always nice. My hair feels and looks great and I’m very happy. I’m definitely a repeat customer now.

AMERICA — Great Mens Stylist! Why spend $ 40 – 50 on a mens haircut? I’ve been seeing America regularly for about the last 1.5 years. She’s the general manager, and is great and super friendly. I sometimes bring in pictures of what I want for a new style, and she goes right to it and does a fantastic job. Price is unbeatable, $ 9.99 if you get in before noon on weekdays, otherwise it’s $ 13.99. I go about every 2.5 weeks, so to me it makes sense financially. Also, if you download their App, you can put your name on the list ahead of time and it’s much easier to predict your wait time. Of course, if you request a specific stylist, the wait can be a little longer than the estimated wait time they give you.

I wasn’t able see my regular hair stylist at another company. I had stopped into Great Clips. Ken was able to cut my hair right away. We had a brief consultation and he listened and I was open to his suggestion. After 10 — 15 minutes, I was done. Since this was the first time seeing him, the conversation was minimal, which is totally understandable. The hair cut was perfect as well as the rate of $ 9.99(early bird special). I definitely plan to return.

I’ve been going here for about 7 years, always seeing the same stylist(her name is America), and getting a great(though simple) haircut. I can’t speak to other locations or other stylists, but she definitely gets five stars here. And you can’t beat the price, $ 13 for men, and $ 10 if you buy the annual gift card or go on a weekday morning. Recommended!

Never again. How hard is it to cut a guys hair? Apparently it is at Great Clips. It seems like they know one style and do it the same thing even if you ask for something else.

I am pretty much getting the best haircuts of my life at a ridiculous price. The staff is really good but I go to America to get my hair cut like clock work every two weeks. Why spend $ 40 or more at any of the other places in boystown when you can get a top notch hair cut for under $ 20 including tip? Thumbs up to Great Clips in Lakeview!

What a mistake! I went in just to get my long hair trimmed about an inch, and walk out with the shortest haircut I have had in the last 10 years from a stylist named«Elia». I just will never understand how asking someone to cut off one inch of dead ends translates to… cut my hair that is almost to the middle of my back to about my shoulders, and add layers to my hair that was all one length(shortest layer now being to my chin). :(I cant even bring myself to wear it down because it brings me to tears to even look at it.

I’ve been going there for a year, and have had great hair cuts from Luiz. Very talented, precise and quick. I’m particular on how my hair looks, and he cuts my hair perfectly every time. And…it’s cheap…$ 13.00

When you go ask for Katie! She is awesome. The reason for my two stars is generally I have good experiences but I don’t know if now I will be back because I went in today and showed the person(not Katie) who was cutting my hair exactly what I wanted. Thought it was going to look nice because I have a wedding to go to this weekend. The person cutting my hair waited until after I was done to tell me that he couldn’t get it to look the way I wanted it to. um hello?! Why didn’t you say anything?!? I showed you exactly what I wanted and you said you could do it and now I have to pay for a hair cut that I hate and doesn’t even look the way I wanted it to. Definitely left feeling like I got ripped off.

The back of my neck was cut with the clippers. Disappointed with the overall haircut. Probably won’t return.

I’ve made the mistake of coming here 3 times. I’m always excited about the cheap haircuts… $ 7.95. That’s cheaper than dinner after. Although everytime I end up with a weird haircut and go home and fix it myself. I don’t think I will be coming back. I’ve had Steve all 3 times, but don’t think it’s worth the risk again. Great deal, terrible haircut. I guess I’ll go to one of the other 4 that are right next to each other on this block.

This is my first review and I felt that /i needed to write one based on all the bad reviews that are out there. I have been to this place twice and have had great experiences both times! Friendly staff that does a great job on my hair. For the record I am a guy and don’t expect too much walking in the door. But I have been greatly satisfied both times!

I have been here twice and I’ve never been back since I found a fantastic haircut at Sports Clip on Clark in Wrigleyville. I don’t care for the service here or the staff’s attitude. The cut? Meh, it’s the kind of cut where you’d hate looking at the mirror for two weeks and hoping that it would grow out quicker than melting butter on a warm toast.

10 bucks to get a hair cut… usually fast. If you are a guy you have other things to spend money on.

My hair was starting to look like a haystack but I’ve been too busy to get in with my regular stylist, and frankly, she’s very expensive. There are lots of chain salons like GC in Lakeview and I think I’ve tried them all most are just ok. The actual salon is kinda dirty I’m sad to say. There’s hair floating around everywhere stuck in cracks and crevices and rolling by in balls under your chair. I’ve never seen this placed overly busy so there’s really no excuse not to vacuum and clean up. However that said, I got my hair cut with Juan today who really deserves 4 stars. He was very quiet but did exactly what I asked and I really liked the cut. If you have short hair and don’t mind razor cuts and are in the neighborhood stop in and ask for Juan. He’ll get you out the door quickly with a decent cut at a cheaper price than any of the other salons on the same block.

What short straw in life did I pull to be forced into Botched Haircut Abortion, Inc. Every time I go into any Great Clips I swear upon leaving to find a full-time job and be able to go back to my life before the recession with my $ 55 stylist at the swank place I went to for 10 years. Recessions force you into doing things like this. Like putting up with less-than-nice hair cutters who roll their eyes when I ask them to cut it a little shorter, please… think a haircut should be finished in 15, maybe 20 minutes. It’s the little things that seem to bother them. I’m not picky, but I also don’t want to look like my hair was just done with a Flobee either.
