Four stars are for the incredibly good smoothies and coffee they offer. The staff(white young girl) was incredibly rude, and impatient. She was such a turn off that the Bourgeois next door will remain my go-to for a local cup of coffee/smoothies. She needs to collect herself… I think this was the first time where I actually wanted to walk out mid-sentence ordering a coffee. Mango/Banana/Strawberry smoothie: 5 (Each smoothie allows you up to 3 different fruits) Maui Coffee: 5 Service: 1

Came in for a smoothie at 11:00 to an empty place. The barista, a younger White woman, Rachel, took my order, then the order of three White customers, and then proceeded to finish preparing ALLOFTHEIRFOODANDDRINKORDERS before starting mine over fifteen minutes later. When I asked her why, she told me she had forgotten about my order. After I pointed out she served multiple White people before she served me, she offered me a cake pop. Not a discount, not an apology, not free smoothies, she literally offered me a lollipop. Thanks for making me feel like a second class citizen in my own neighborhood, Green Bean! I’ll be sure to only come when no other White customers are in front of me. On the plus side, the smoothies were delicious.

YUM. I’ve been to Green Bean at least 10 times and it’s always really good. It’s a sandwich/wrap/salad shop that prides itself on being gluten, GMO, and nut free. If I’m being honest, I had no idea the whole menu was gluten free because it just doesn’t taste like it. When I order gluten free, I normally taste a left behind grit. I don’t get that when I order from here. The Spanish wrap is my fave. Ordered the gelato filled cupcake for the first time tonight and OMG was it good. There is a guy who is almost always there when I come in. I’m assuming he is the owner? He’s really friendly and always quick to recommend things. I’m a big fan of Tiesta Teas and I’m super happy that I can find them at Green Bean. Keep doing what you’re doing!

*Please, please, please clean up your establishment. If it’s opening time, the floor should be cleaned, there should be no debris on the tables from the previous day. Food would merely be an «A-OK» rating, but since I picked what looked like a green pepper off my plate and stepped on food on the floor, I had to lower it to two stars. There’s nothing more deterring than being in an unclean place. If the tables and floor are that bad, what does it look like where you’re cooking my food? No thanks. ~~~~~~~~~ *Edit to add on 6÷2÷16: The owner of the restaurant contacted me immediately after I posted this review to collect information about who was working/what happened while I was there and took action regarding the state of the restaurant. Although I won’t be back in the area, it’s worth noting that the cleanliness state of the restaurant should hopefully improve after this review.

Before you order, consider the establishment at this address 1500 N Hooker St, Chicago, IL60642. That’s the address to a nearby Waste Management facility, and I’m certain you’ll be more satisfied with your meal there. Granted, we did order delivery 45 minutes before close(our mistake), but the punishment of delivering to us sweltering hot dog boogers from Mount Garbagetown doesn’t seem to fit the crime. We had the Phở-Esque noodle soup, it was fine but bland. We had the tempura green beans, they were cold and bland. We had the Asian Salad, it was good if you like spring mixed tossed in Grill Cook Tank Top sweat. We had the Caprese wrap and panini, it tasted like what you taste in your mouth when the neighborhood bully shoves your face into a bin of warm warm garage grass clippings. But the piéce de résistance was the tea spoon of «black bean hummus» that was most certainly koala bear vomit. All in all, I guess I would t recommend it.

Literally created a Unilocal account to leave this. Had high hopes when ordering off Grub Hub but the sweet potato fries were soggy(or just not cooked?) and cold. Nothing crispy about them. The wrap fell apart because it wasn’t even wrapped correctly. I didn’t even know you could do that?! I think the flavors in the wrap were there but the execution was just terrible. I’d skip this place when ordering off Grub Hub. I’ve never been to the physical location so I can’t speak to that.

The wraps from here are delicious! The cupcakes filled with gelato are also to die for. There Salads are also good but if you’re looking for something more filling you should go with a wrap

Update: Excellent service recovery on the part of Green Bean’s management got me to return and try it again. Staff was great and service was quick. Having now sampled the innovative, fresh and healthy low-carb options, I’m delighted that this place is right in my back yard. I’ll be a regular for sure. Original review: Just walked down to the shop to try it out as I’m new to the neighborhood. At about a quarter turn to 12, the shop was essentially empty, but when I go to order, I’m told that they’re sorry but can’t make me any food for 20 minutes as they’re working on a big take out order. When I say I can’t wait, I’m told that they are sorry, but there’s nothing they can do. I guess they don’t need the business, but why have a store front?

Poor review is mainly for the cleanliness and appearance of the place as we didn’t order much. The pile of dirty rags on the floor right where you order food was the start. In addition, it looked as if the floor hadn’t been swept in a while. Off to the side where you get milk for coffee they had a bucket for trash with no trash bag and the bucket was filthy. My wife took our son to the bathroom and she said it was also pretty dirty. And this was all at 10am so it’s not like it was at closing time. As for the food– the selection is a little confusing as there are menus posted in different places. And we didn’t figure that out until after we ordered. So we got a coffee, tea and oatmeal. We are still scratching our heads at 3.99 for a large to-go tea. And for some reason the oatmeal took 10 minutes to serve despite us being the only ones there. All in all it was quite disappointing and we are unlikely to go back.

Ordered a sandwich and a wrap via Grub Hub. The sandwich was pathetic and tiny. The wrap was flavorless. The protein we selected for the wrap was mushrooms, and it came with the equivalent of one sliced mushroom. Huge waste of money.

***UPDATE: After Aaron asked me to call him to discuss my Unilocal review, I gladly spoke to him because at the end of the day I would like to see this place succeed and change so I can enjoy it the way it used to be. Aaron asked me for specific dates so that he could check to see what crew was working to possibly find out who made the mistakes(I didn’t think to write the dates down), but as my review clearly states… this isn’t just a few bad seeds. They need to really step back and look at why there was such a decrease in quality. At the very least offer to try and gain me back as a loyal customer, but all I got was a thank you for your input and time. Maybe I am just one customer and the need to win me back as a customer isn’t needed, but I was still willing to give this place and chance. Looks like I will just be shredding my Groupons because I wouldn’t even want to give them away at this point*** My office recently moved, but before we did I discovered this place which was walking distance from my work and was so excited since I am gluten free. I was immediately hooked by how good the food was, the portion size and most of all the price! I went back and literally told all my co workers and got them all hooked on this place too. After a cpl weeks of going at least 3 times a week, I went one afternoon for lunch and realized the prices went up a dollar. I was a little caught off guard, but wasn’t effected by it since I loved everything else about this place. However, that quickly changed once I got my food. Immediately my co workers and I looked at each other and all said, «What happened to the portion size?» It wasn’t just a little smaller, but substantially smaller and both mine and my co workers orders were wrong. She ordered the Spanish salad and hers was missing avocado and I ordered the Caprese salad and mine was missing basil(Hello thats what makes it a Caprese salad!). They also forgot about my green beans which came out about 5 minutes after my salad(after I reminded them) and were easily half the size as previous times I had ordered. Although I left that day disappointed I wasn’t ready to just write them off, every place has a «bad day.» However, I went on two more separate occasions as well as my co workers and EVERYONE had the same complaints! One time I went and my salad was 80% greens and my co workers green beans were so salty she couldn’t even eat them, they were literally crystallized! I don’t know if this place is under new mgmt or what, but they have lost at least 10 loyal costumers from my work alone whom were ordering on a daily basis. Needless to say I am very disappointed :-(

Came in on a Saturday afternoon because the Bourgeois Pig next door was full. Focused on «alternative fast food» with drinks like smoothies and coffee. My iced coffee was fine and decently priced. My friend got the spinach chorizo wrap, and I tried a few bites – delicious! Good for studying or just grabbing a quick bite.

Tried this place twice now for dine-in and once for delivery. The food is really great, especially when you figure in the gluten-free factor. I’ve had various chicken wraps, the fried green beans, a breakfast sandwich, the macaroons, a latte, a chocolate muffin, and the brownie bites. The owners and most of the staff have been terrific. And it’s a cute, cozy place to eat at too. My husband and I will be back. Hopefully I’ll get some of my healthy-eating friends to start coming with me too!

I have been ordering delivery from the green bean lately because it really is a healthier alternative than most places that deliver. I’m giving them three stars because my most recent order was an absolute mess. I ordered the Asian wrap and a chicken Caesar salad along with two of their chorizo tacos. It was obvious that they use the same batch of chicken for everything. The chicken was very overcooked and crunchy in everything I ordered. I also had a strawberry blueberry stone water and it was only half full? I also ordered a fruit cup and it wasn’t full either(about 2⁄3 full). The previous time I had ordered from them, both were full. My boyfriend even came home from work to share the lunch with me and said that the food was just not good this time around and it makes me kind of wary to order from here again. He also was confused by my half filled stoned water and for the lack of fruit in my fruit cup :(

Pretty good place for lunch. Had the«griller» chicken wrap with a side of tempura green beans. Wrap was good, pretty healthy. Tempura green beans were just ok. Should have gotten the sweet potato fries– husband had those and they were awesome.

I pass this place two times a day at least and decided I would stop in for lunch. I got a panini with portobellos mushrooms served«griller» style. Also, a few days prior, they were giving out samples of their hot apple cider, and it’s to die for. I got another small cup, although it was a bit pricey at $ 2.99 for a small. Comes with this yummy cinnamon sprinkle on top, and I will surely come back for more cider. The panini however, was pretty sad. The combo of pineapple, asparagus, mozzarella, and mango sauce sounded delicious, but it was executed poorly. It comes on bread the size of grocery store bread loaf slices, and kinda tastes like it too. It was super hard to eat, and was a little soggy. I couldn’t taste the spicy mango sauce anywhere. The flavor combo of the mozzarella, tomato, and pineapple saved it a bit for me. As for price, they give 10% of to DePaul students so pretty cool that we don’t need to pay tax. The menu has some cheaper options that I’ll surely check out next time I come in for some cider. UPDATE! I went in again and got a breakfast wrap with egg whites, mozzarella, and basil, and although it was pretty tasty, it was soaking wet. No lie, the wrapping around it was wet, there was some liquid dripping out of the wrap, it made it VERY hard to eat. It was a lot more food than the panini, I didn’t even finish it all, and it was cheaper. Taste-4/5 Presentation– 0⁄5 Drinks-5/5 Service– 5⁄5 Atmosphere– 5⁄5 Price– 4⁄5 23⁄30

I rarely give 5⁄5 stars for coffee shops because I’m picky AF but I LOVE the vibe of this place and it has two things that I can rarely find at a coffee house: 100% gluten free food and later hours! Cool kinda summer/rustic décor inside with huge windows. The music was on an Arctic Monkeys/Vampire Weekend type pandora station– which just so happens to be my personal favorite genre of «hangout and chill» music. Steak panini with tempura fried green beans was delicious and cheap($ 10). David was so friendly and accommodating; he double checked on each guest, even refilling patrons’ tea with hot water. I’ll be back for sure!

Stopped in to pick up dinner on my way home from a late night at work. I pass by here every day on my way to the El and have kept contemplating stopping in. Finally did and happy to say I really enjoyed the food! Since my order was to go, I can’t say much about the service other than the guy who rang me up was very friendly. The food took about 5 minutes. I got the Asian wrap with chicken and it was so good! I can’t wait to eat my leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Highly recommend it — the bread is super chewy and the sauce is great! Also picked up a hot apple cider and love it. Bring on the cold weather if you get one of these! I truly hope this business succeeds.
