Being a former employee and direct assistant to the owner(don’t get me started on that conversation…) I have an inside track on what exactly happens inside this closed to the public music distribution company/warehouse. Ok I can’t lie, my pay checks might have equaled in two weeks what I make in one day now, but it was well worth the sacrifice of being around so much great music. And I do mean GREAT as in AMAZING! Afro-beat, Left-field, Down-tempo, DnB, Trip-Hop, Nu-Jazz, all imports, and HOUSEHOUSEANDMOREHOUSE! They get new music every week and even though they only open to the public for 3 hours on Wednesday night, this is one of Chicago’s gems for all music aficionado’s and dj’s a like. Every record store in Chicago, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and even Madison Wisconsin has some rare vinyl gem care of Groove Dis. I miss taking the 49 bus to 70 every morning and soaking in the best of Wicker Park knowing I’d be listening to some incredibly talented artist’s catalog and feeling an onset of depression seeing the direction of popular culture and the music which influences it so directly today. Explore the unknown, funky, and bootlegged and make a pilgrimage to Groove. I had the privelidge of working alongside some of Chicago’s greatest under-the-radar artists(Thaione Davis– MC/Producer extrodinaire, DJCASPER– Best UK Garage and long time Jungle/DnB conductor of the masses), as they opened my eyes, ears, and mind to a whole new world of art: culture:music that I now appreciate so dearly today. Randall and Josh are the folks to go to, both good guys who have an incredible knowledge of artists and music you never knew even existed(I stand as an apostle).
