Waitress completely forgot to put in my order and when I asked about it she completely forgot to put it in. Came with my co-workers and she wanted to put it in AFTER I asked. My co-workers had already finished eating, so why would I still want my food all late about it? This place was not busy ATALL and she literally had one job. Worried about this place when there’s actually a good amount of customers in it. Never coming here again after today.

Good beers and drinks all around. Food is standard American fare, and onion rings are to die for.

Great place in Printers’ Row that has something most places in this neighborhood lack — a NEIGHBORHOOD vibe. We only came here for drinks, but loved the atmosphere, service, and they make a great dirty martini. Cheers

This is a very solid bar/restaurant. At holiday time they serve a version of Gluhwein, which they call Glögg, which is delicious. We have a family member that lives right down the street from this place so we go at least once on every trip. I really like the nachos and my husband really likes the buffalo chips. The only downside I can report is that I recently went right before driving back to Michigan and consequently ordered a pop instead of a drink from the bar. My drink was empty right after the food came and the waitress literally never came back until it was time for the check. I eventually flagged another waitress down to refill my drink and she said she would and then didn’t! Inexcusable in my opinion. My relative said that they expect you to order bar drinks and that’s why they weren’t refilling my pop. I felt like this was complete BS. The only reason I didn’t complain to the manager is that my relative is a regular here. I will consider revising my review in a few years when I have forgotten about this lapse in service.

I love how every time we walk in it feels like a family! Even when it’s busy the staff is still totally on their toes with everything. Bison burger is probably my favorite option and their candy cane pie is to die for. I give mad props to the the staff at this restaurant for making it a excellent experience every time.

JUSTKEEPONWALKING! We’ve dined at Hackney’s Printers’ Row many times over the years. Usually we order their turkey or beef burgers, which are good. Our last two visits(and literally our last) were awful and left our stomachs churning. A couple of months ago we ordered fish and chips(for a change), which were described as lightly battered. Really? Not! The breading was thick and greasy. We needed a fishing pole and hook to find the fish under all that mess. Our last visit(12÷21÷15) was another awful meal. Ordered the guacamole and chips. The guacamole didn’t taste fresh, although it is made in-house. It was beyond bland. Not even worth eating. Next came the chicken pot pie. It was the size of a large, shallow dinner plate. It was steaming hot, so it obviously had been microwaved(something I could do at home). The thin crust was rubbery and the inside was more like a watery chicken soup. Again, to bland to eat. What a waste of money. If all other restaurants are closed, go to Hackney’s for a burger.

Great burger joint with a very nice beer selection in printers’ row. I thought they used to serve the burgers on rye bread but the last time I came here, they did not. A good neighborhood bar that gets packed And does not take reservations, but good for casual get togethers if you don’t mind a bit of a wait.

Good place for a beer and meal. I think it is a little bit overpriced for what it is.

First: regular food is solid. Reliable. Fine. Second: Dollar Pie Friday. They purport to offer a slice of pie for a dollar. What they’re actually selling is about ¼ of a slice for a dollar. But their ads show a whole slice and nothing says«mini slice of pie for a dollar!» And then when we asked the manager about it, she didn’t particularly care. When we asked to have it taken off the bill because the ads weren’t clear, she snatched our plates off the table and said, «Ok, then I’ll take these.» Soooo…go somewhere else.

This is a charming neighborhood bar. The bartender was a nice guy who gave us lots of attention. The burgers are very tasty and my dad remarked that the fish had too much batter and not enough fish. The salads are ood, nothing earth-shattering so if you go — order the burgers or the grown-up mac and cheese because my mom loved it and she knows best. The dining room is a little tight but it has a friendly atmosphere.

Wonderful draft selection. Really should have a 4.5. The fries were perfect and the bison burger was made exactly the way I asked. Seating outside made for a perfect night. Our server was excellent and a lot of fun. I wish I could remember his name but it was the first week in September. John? Everyone had a great time. Looking forward to the next visit.

I am so used to the Hackney’s in the ‘burbs I had no idea there was one in the city! I came here with my mom and my aunt after exploring the city of the architecture tour. I thought the food was decently good. I had a chicken club sandwich that I enjoyed. I also ordered a Blue Moon margarita which I thought could be some cool margarita made with blue moon beer. Sounds interesting, right? Wrong. Although it was tasty it was just a margarita that was blue.

Talk about a disappointment! Has Hackneys been taken over by McDonald’s??? The burger was dry & tasteless & certainly not cooked-t-order! The fries were cold & the onion rings, which are usually a treat, were greasy! Hackney’s is NOT the Hackney’s of old. Never again… at least at this location!

Nice Americana food, good beer selection. My favorite is the inside out burger. Service is always nice, fast, and friendly. Im not a fan of the onion rings, but everything else on the menu has always been good. The have a nice outdoor seating area that is across the street from an impromptu dog park, so you can watch the south loop dogs run and play in the park if that’s your thing.

It’s high time I wrote a review for this place considering I average coming here once a week for the past 3 years. I mean any place you do that for is worthy of a 5 star. I’ve tried a lot of the menu. My favorites are mesquite chicken salad, grown up Mac and cheese, New Mexico chicken melt, fried onion rings, egg breakfast sandwich(with avocado), hackney burger, Reuben egg rolls, chili… I think the list would be far smaller if I told you what not to get and really all that comes to mind is the Mexican breakfast skillet and quiche. Everything else is super solid and tasty that I’ve tried. Also good beer list! Great place, good food, fun patio. Worth a trip… or 20.

We had a birthday lunch here, and everyone seemed to have enjoyed their meal. Reservations were easily made and they pulled tables together pretty quickly to accommodate our group of 10. Our waitress was helping me narrow down my decision, and so I went with the meatloaf. It was good, but it didn’t really blow me a way. It was solid, and the mashed potatoes were super buttery but good. You definitely have to order the onion loaf as they are well known for it here. The sweet potato fries were tasty as well. I would like to come back and try one of the burgers.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the beer list and the old world charm here. They had a lot of local(midwest) brews on tap, some of which I hadn’t heard of. The service was great as well. The only thing that was a tad disappointing was the burger that I ordered. While it was delicious, it was supposed to be a bleu cheeseburger with bleu cheese inside. I didn’t taste the cheese at all. So, if you order that burger, I guess ask for extra bleu cheese? I just feel like you should be able to taste the cheese if it’s in the very title of the meal. Call me crazy. I would for sure come back here and try another burger, though!

Went here with a friend on Sunday for lunch. Food is good, but not excellent. I ordered the bison burger with black beans on the side. It could have used a little more seasoning. My buddy ordered the blue cheese burger. He said it was good. The beer list here is good. I was lame and had Budweiser. Service was also good.

Further update August 2015 — Excellent burger, juicy and good quality beef. It actually reminded my of our own farm ground beef as a kid in Iowa. They make excellent slaw and provide a large server. I continue to patronize Hackney’s. I get great service in the bar. Now rounding up to four(4). Update as of February 2015 — Still 3−½ stars. On a recent visit I greatly enjoyed a cheese burger with a very good side of slaw. They do a good job with their burgers and I am never at a loss with the beer selection. The servers are friendly and don’t hassle me when i don’t plan to order food. I will continue to use Hackney’s as my place, on my way to Jazz showcase. I have become a semi-regular visitor to the South Loop for the Jazz Showcase. Because I am driving in from Aurora when I do this, and never can predict traffic, I always leave early and kill time at Hackney’s before getting dinner, either there or at another restaurant in the South Loop. I like Hackney’s bar for this purpose of buffering my time. I can almost always get one of the high-top tables which will also accommodate a jazz buddy if I have one that evening. Hackney’s has a decent beer selection to choose from, I can always find something I like. The service has always been attentive, even though they are usually pretty busy with people loosening up after work. On the occasions that I have ordered food, I have had quite acceptable pub food; fish and chips and burgers. I rate Hackney’s a solid 3−½ stars. I will certainly continue to return for a beer before dinner and jazz. I kind of like to walk down to Chicago Curry House for dinner so I have not really challenged Hackney’s food menu. Perhaps I need to. Update as of February 2015 — Still 3−½ stars. On a recent visit I greatly enjoyed a cheese burger with a very good side of slaw.
