I love hamburger Mary’s! The only thing is that the service sucks, but the servers are great individuals nonetheless, just wish they were more attentive and ask more frequently if I need another drink or a re-fill. Either way, their food rocks and the brews too! :)

Andersonville is full of great places to eat. Then, there’s Hamburger Mary’s. Why it’s still in the neighborhood is nothing short of amazing. What’s wrong with this place, you might ask? 1. Medium is ‘pink’ not grey; 2. Macaroni and Cheese eaten out should be made from scratch and not out of a box; 3. A stuffed cheese burger should be stuffed with cheese; and 4. Service should be attentive. ‘Average’ is as best as it can ever get and, sadly, as good as it likely will ever be.

Really, anyplace that’ll cook a burger medium-rare at all earns some love, but this place also has the campiest, most fabulous décor ever, music to match, a burlesque show in the evenings, and to top it all off, Lost in Space(original ‘60s version) playing on the TV. What’s not to love? As for the food itself, the beer cheese mac wasn’t really to our taste, but the burger itself(the Steak Oscar – burger of the month – with asparagus and Hollandaise) was awesome.

I’m reviewing 2 venues in one review: Hamburger Mary’s(HM), a restaurant and Mary’s Attic located above HM, which is a theater. We love the casual atmosphere of Hamburger Mary’s, it is very eclectic. It is known as being a gay bar but, warmly welcomes all people. The wait staff are always super friendly and they keep an eye and ear tuned to your table to make sure you are doing ok. We usually get the burgers which come stacked very tall with a steak knife stuck in the center. They get a little messy eating them but, that’s what napkins are for. Come hungry and start with an order of the pretzels and hot beer cheese. We’ve never made it to the dessert menu cause we’re usually pretty full. I would like to try the retro deep fried twinkie, maybe next time. The down side to our visit this time: all our burgers were supposed to be cooked medium with some pink in them. However, ALL our burgers were well done, ick! My next review is for Mary’s Attic: Mary’s Attic is a small theater venue located upstairs from Hamburger Mary’s. Since our last visit in 2014, the seating area has been re-modeled. It is more audience friendly. They removed the bar from the middle of the room and pushed it to the back of the theater. This allows more space and easier to view the show. They’ve added some cushy chairs. Seating is always 1st come, 1st served. Plays are put on by local performers. For a small venue, it’s a good, cheap enjoyable evening. We saw Christmas Dearest. Hilarious! It’s based on «loving» mom Joan Crawford and her interaction with fellow actors, her assistant and her«lovely»(crazy) daughter. Grab a burger 1st at Hamburger Mary’s and then venture upstairs to Mary’s Attic. Check their website for upcoming shows. Oh and if you like BINGO, they have weekly BINGO games.

I can’t believe I didn’t know this place existed. Apparently my father’s girlfriend took him here for a date and he thought I’d like the ambiance and staff. Not sure what that’s supposed to mean entirely, but nonetheless I was happy to agree when he took me here to try it for myself. The place is impossible to miss, as it’s on the corner and decked out in bright purple. It starts out fun before you even set foot in the door. We got lucky and found a parking spot right nearby without a wait. We were seated right away too, and both our hostess and our server were friendly and attentive. The décor is fun and bright, with lots of different colors, kitsch, and wall hangings. There’s a lot to look at while you’re waiting for your food. There’s also patio seating(seasonally) and a bar with chairs as well, if you don’t want to be in the dining room. There’s also fun music playing, which adds to the charm of the place. Then there’s the food. My dad got a Meaty Mushroom burger which is topped with Swiss and a trio of mushrooms, and since he’s a man of few words, it was«good.» I got the Daddy Mac burger, which came topped with beer-cheese mac. It’s beer, cheese, noodles, and beef, what’s not to love? Both burgers were well cooked and tasty. We also both got seasoned fries. Each of these burgers was somewhere in the $ 13 ballpark. We got a few drinks and dessert as well. He got a glass of wine and I got a «Pretty in Pink», which is raspberry vodka, raspberry liq, lemonade & sour. I’d order it again. One of the times I was there, I had a fried peanut butter and jelly, but it doesn’t seem to be on the menu anymore, sadly(at least online). I settled for a honey-vanilla milkshake, which I think was $ 6 or so dollars. It was super creamy and the perfect sweet treat. We got our bill in a high heeled shoe, which was a fun little way to end the meal. This place is worth checking out if you’re in the area, if you want a good burger and a fun atmosphere. They have daily drink specials online, so be sure to check those out too. This place is a chain, but I’ve only ever been to this one, and I had a pleasant experience.

I’m so bummed about this past visit. I have so many fond memories of this place, however it has been a few years. SO I’m assuming things have changed a wee-bit? We initially came here for Bingo this past Monday. Unfortunately we were denied our bingo :(- apparently it was cancelled due to the New Years? 2 days later? Now we’re super disappointed, so we order a round of drinks. It was $ 6 margarita night. I LOVE margaritas. I did NOT love whatever slightly-flavored-ice that I was given. Literally friends — this drink came out and half the cup was pure shaved ice. It wasn’t even mixed. The entire bottom half was ice. The crappy thing was I didn’t have a chance to really change my drink until the burgers came out, since our waitress didn’t come back until the food was done. So I sat there for 20ish minutes not enjoying a much needed cocktail. Burgers were fine. Not as amazing as I remembered. Follow up drink wasn’t good either, I think it was the Mary Punch or something? It was way stronger, but it tasted like straight up cough syrup to me. All and all, Mary you should post on your social networks if an event is cancelled or on your website. And fix the margaritas please. I really, really want to come back here…

My boyfriend and I went here today for a late lunch. The food we ordered just wasnt that good. I ordered the pink panther, a sandwich with salmon and bacon. The salmon tasted like the catfood salmon. Literally, it was like someone just opened a can of fancy feast and served it to me. I had my bf try it and he agreed with me as well …My boyfriend asked for crispy fries. Crispy. I wish I took a picture of what we received but we literally got burnt fries. They were nearly black and withered and were disgusting. I’m usually very forgiving when I go out to eat because sometimes you just dont choose the best dish on the menu. But how do you just serve burnt fries and think thats ok?

Overall: Fun spot for some tasty burgers that are wild and wacky. The good: Tasty burgers with so many different combinations. They are good sized and not too overwhelming. Huge menu overall, lots of options. The service was great; friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Atmosphere was cool with all the knick-knacks and funky music. The bad: The burgers could’ve been a little bit better. Their brew wasn’t as good as I thought it’d be. Music was a little loud Atmosphere: 9⁄10 Service: 9⁄10 Food: 8⁄10

Meh. Burger was just okay and fries were cold. Service was slow even though there were a total of 8 customers. Never got a water refill. I will say, the ambience is neat.

Not so Good Experience at Mary’s Burger the women bathroom was worst than a fast food restaurant bathroom. SOBEFOREYOUORDERCHECKTHEBATHROOM. Spoke with the one of the Managers he didn’t seem to think it was a big deal that on his watch the Bathroom was nasty he was making light of the situation. They just lost a long time customer that lives in the area.

We loved our experience at Hamburger Mary’s. We went with a large group and they were super accommodating. The staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. We were joking around and having a great time. The beers from the Andersonville Brewery were very tasty and the Sunday morning $ 3 mimosa deal was a steal! My Pig and Goat burger was incredible. The fig caramel glaze and the goat cheese were the perfect combination toppers! Plus the seasoned fries were amazing. I can’t wait to go back!

Went here with the nephew and wife for dinner. This is a good restaurant with a fun atmosphere. We always have a good time with the staff/servers, who are friendly and competent. The beer menu is fun/local. I ordered the spicy Mary. It was good, but a little heavy on the ranch dressing. We also had a standard burger(forget what it’s called) and a BBQ burger. The wife said her burger was over cooked, but this may be because one cretin in our party ordered his medium well done and that may have affected the entire order. Overall the meal was good and we will likely be back.

I love Hamburger Mary’s. Being here reminded me of how much I miss having one in Cincinnati. We arrived just in time, before the second wave lunch rush came in. Our waiter, I think his name was Oliver(?), was very kind to us. One of the people I came with had a negative experience at this location before, but I think Oliver flipped her back to the positive side. I was surprised to see a lot of people coming in with their children. In my initial check in, I said I wasn’t sure if it was a place to bring kids, but I think it seemed okay! I was leaving town shortly after, so I didn’t get to try any of the Andersonville Brews. My only complaint and the reason I am giving 3 stars is because my seasoned fries weren’t very good(but they normally are!) and the bathroom was pretty dirty. To be fair though, they were busy. I’ll be back.

Had some burgers here yesterday. 1. The woman at the hostess podium was rude and seemed put upon by having to seat us in the nearly empty restaurant around 3:00pm. 2. Sat down to a filthy table. The lamp was caked in dust and crumbs, and the window sill and seat had crumbs. The table was sticky and dirty. 3. Why did we stay? We were really hungry. 4. Ordered a burger and asked for medium. The menu states that all burgers will be cooked medium unless otherwise specified. 5. The burger was well done. 6. Our server was nice but seemed like she was overcompensating for this establishment that seems to have gone way downhill. Overall we decided we wouldn’t come back. We had planned on going to the Little Bad Wolf but they were closed for an event so we decided on HM our old favorite and were so disappointed!

A trip to Hamburger Mary’s always makes for a fun time. I’ve had plenty of delicious burgers and sandwiches at Mary’s, but my go to will always be the Barbara-Q Bacon Cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. Just thinking about it make me want one right now… To wash that down, you MUST try the Fuzzy Tea Bag. This is one of my favorite drink recipes of all time, and makes for a truly fantastic summer cocktail. As for service at Mary’s, some of the waitresses are absolutely a hoot. You should probably ask for Linda because she is amazing. Have fun, and be sure to get a picture with Mary on your way out!

First off, I had no idea this place was a chain until looking at their website. It just doesn’t seem like that kind of a place. They even have a location in Germany! Very interesting… Anyway, onto the review. I live close to Mary’s, so I’ve been several times now and unfortunately, I seem to like this place less and less the more I go. I do appreciate having a place like this nearby. It’s fun, lively and they have«adult bingo» hosted by a drag queen who often dresses up as Mary herself. Sounds like the perfect place if you ask me! However, the food can be really hit or miss. You can’t really go wrong with the burgers. They seem to be pretty consistent. On the other hand, every time I try to branch out and try something new, I end up disappointed. Undercooked tots, salad that tasted more like dessert(caramel chicken salad)…I still can’t get the taste out of my mouth. I don’t know what I was thinking when I ordered that salad, but I certainly did not expect it to be doused in caramel sauce. Makes me cringe just thinking about it. On the bright side, I haven’t had bad service yet(unlike other Unilocalers) and the drinks are cheap and STRONG, just the way I like them. Overall, I’d say this is the kind of place you come to if you want to hangout with friends, have some drinks, people watch, or watch whatever game or event they have on. It’s not the kind of place I would go for a relaxing dinner. It’s a little too loud for one-on-one conversation. Just for clarification, Mary’s has 3 sections. It’s a pretty big place. The main room is family friendly(before Bingo). The other side of the 1st floor has a kind of sport’s bar vibe with plenty of large TVs showing whatever game happens to be on. To my knowledge, this is the side of the restaurant that is called Andersonville Brewing(yes, they brew their own beer and yes, it’s pretty good). I wonder if all of the locations have on-site brewing and if they are all named after whatever town/neighborhood they happen to be in. The upstairs, which I believe is called Mary’s Attic, is a bar with live music(sometimes). The upstairs section is the only section that I have yet to visit. Maybe next time.

I was a bit skeptical to try this after reading some of the recent reviews based on the health violations, but alas, my family and I had already sat down and ordered our drinks before I started perusing Unilocal for pictures and recommendations. With that said, I’m glad I didn’t check them out before we came, otherwise we may have missed this place! Full disclosure: I am a Chicago tourist so I’d never actually heard of, nor formed an opinion on Hamburger Mary’s prior to our visit. However, upon walking through the doors and suddenly realizing where it got its moniker, I was amused and ready to dive in. Everyone in my party ordered something different. The tots and potato salad were both excellent sides. I had the steakhouse burger and while it was good, I had a bite of my husband’s Buffy burger and liked that one better. The service was great and friendly, and the food came out promptly. I also tried a cocoa hazelnut beer that was different, yet tasty. I’d definitely be back to try the other burgers on the menu!

My fiancé and I LOVE Hamburger Mary’s. The kitschy décor, the delicious adult beverages and Oh, the burgers! These crazy bastards will slap a dollop of cheesy Mac-n-Cheese on your burger and serve it to you hot and delicious! I have to will myself NOT to order that, every time we visit. Luckily for me, every other burger I’ve had there has been equally delicious. Get up on Hamburger Mary’s!
