I tell EVERYONE about my compost guy @ Healthy Soil Compost. It’s really true! I went through many phases with compost. First I thought I’d try it myself. I got some worms and everything went okay for about 6 months. Then it was nice out so I put the soil and worms outside. Not sure why I thought that was a good idea, I think because I wanted the other two apartments to participate. Yeah, the worms drowned. It was very sad!(When people try to get me to adopt animals, I just explain to them that I killed WORMS, I can not be trusted with higher species.) ANYWAY, stage two was thinking about outsourcing the whole thing. But really? An extra cost on top of everything else? For garbage? I really don’t like signing up for monthly paying things… they add up quickly. But then… like a lightening bolt it hit me… one day I’m going to be old and I’m pretty sure the planet is going to have problems. The kids are going to be mad at us for being so reckless. What am I going to say to them? Sorry, $ 15 seemed like a lot of money? No way! This $ 15 a month is my ticket to being the cool Grandma who will be telling the kids about how she started composting«back around the turn of the century» lol! An investment in real street cred, REVOLUTION!!! Also: I have to take my garbage out less! I remember to eat my fresh things more(*)! I eat more fresh things(*)! I ALWAYS recycle now that I compost(*)! The scraps go right off the cutting board into bucket with seal-able top! The garbage is less stinky! I have something to say at parties when there’s a real awkward silence! On the Serious Tip… when organic matter goes in the trash, it ends up at the bottom of a huge pile and degrades without oxygen… a banana peel composted is a normal situation and therefore returns to the earth normal stuff, the building blocks for life, whereas a banana peel that degrades in an anaerobic environment breaks into more unusual products that are not normally around because anaerobic environments are so few and far between in the natural world. The imbalance heats up the earth, among other things. So PLEASE, compost your garbage, however you can! * These things just happen, I think it’s because you feel more in touch with life and stuff. It’s weird, the other trash looks dead and plastic-y. But you come to like your organic trash… or at least I did, lol. And you get better at recycling because you want all that plastic to go someplace with a higher purpose too. It’s a journey! Take it! P. S. the smell does NOT escape the container. No one ever smells it. P. S.S. Healthy Soil Compost picks it up on bicycle! PS3. they are growing to do larger cafeterias and the such, you’ll really be a building block in a movement
