Came for dinner on a Friday of Lent. My friend that wanted not to eat meat ordered the fried shrimp special. The fried shrimp was wrapped in bacon. He got 6 huge shrimp that were good, too breaded for his likes. It was served with very good mashed potatoes and veg. I got the hamburger, ordered it medium rare, but it came well done. The meat was good and moist considering it was well done. It is served on a Kaiser roll. Nothing special. Morrisons is so much better for a burger. We had the cheese curds to start which were delicious in almost a tempura batter. Nice wine list. Cute little place, very nice waitress.

Love this place! Local, clean and fantastic customer service. Nice wine list and yummy food menu. Place has unique character with deep rich wood bar and accents. Kathleen is funny and we love her! Made us laugh which was what we needed!

Just can’t say enough good things about the Highway House. Love the atmosphere, LOVE the people, excellent food! Drinks are great, and the bartender is splendid! And the music is just right. Stop in and have some cheese curds, at least ;)

We went here shortly after they opened. Good food and service. I had the veggie sandwich, not sure what my husband had, and we of course got the cheese curds(get the cheese curds!). I think I also had the Sangiovese, it was delicious. The owner came to chat with us, which was nice. We’ll definitely be back.

My daughter and I dropped by for dinner last night. My bullet-point review: Beer — Nice draft selection; they had me at Left Hand Milk Stout. Appetizers — We both enjoyed the meat and cheese platter. We both wished for a few more crackers and a little less cheese. The black olives were a tasty addition. Dinner — She had the turkey club, I had the house burger with fries. Both delicious. Ambiance — The bar was crowded and loud, and given its proximity to the main dining area, it was difficult to carry on an uninterrupted conversation. The farther back you sit in the dining room, the better. If you’re looking for a quiet, intimate evening, this probably isn’t your place, although since it was a Saturday night, it was probably louder than most nights. But overall, the food, drink, and service were very good. The new patio to open this summer should make Highway House a very popular destination; it’s a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

We live in the neighborhood and have been hoping for a nice place like this. It has great street parking. A beautiful interior, with a nice bar area that has plenty of seating and a great seating section a few steps up if you prefer a more dining area atmosphere. We started with the cheese curds, they were delicious! My husband had the burger which was outstanding. My ribeye sandwich,(this also comes as a full dinner that I look forward to trying), was cooked exactly like I ordered, the sour dough bread was grilled to perfection. The fries were nice and crispy. I took a slice of cake home and had a bite upon arrival, looking to save the rest for later. Good luck with that. The cake was a tasty treat I am sure to order most times I return. The prices were just as they should be. Very affordable dinner with superb service. We will return I am sure again and again. The menu had numerous items that we both look forward to trying on future visits. I recommend coming to try as I feel you will return too. I’ll be letting my friends know to come here, to give the Highway House a try.

My husband and I have lived in the neighborhood for 16 years and our visit to the Highway House this evening was a most welcome surprise! The atmosphere was cozy, the service professional and our entrees were absolutely delicious. I was especially impressed with the homemade pasta — unbelievably fresh ! The homemade split pea soup was the best I’d ever tasted and the wings were incredibly delectable. I was expecting just another run of the mill burger joint, all of which I have dutifully tried in the name of supporting local businesses, but Highway House was a fabulously atypical experience. To the wine list that finally«gets it» and the promisingly evolving ambiance I say welcome to the neighborhood and offer a resounding round of applause!

Went last night with a big group so we got to order a good portion of the menu. EVERYTHING was delicious. Burger was juicy and cooked perfection. I was told they grind their own. Fish was a large portion and tasty. Grilled cheese was huge. Fresh cut fries were a nice treat. The apps were decent too. The meat and cheese plate had a wide selection. The fried cheese curds were better than any I had in Wisconsin for sure. It’s a charming addition to the neighborhood and I’ll be back soon and often.

Impressed! Nice conversion from an antique coffee shop to a neighborhood restaurant. The room is warm and the bar, cozy, with about a dozen stools. It has TVs but conversation and food are the focal point. The burger is ground to order with Angus beef and was simple and had great flavor. The Irish beef sandwich was done Reuben style on house made rye bread. It is made with house cured beef and sliced paper thin. Kinda reminded me of an Italian beef but with corned beef taste. The service is top notch. The bartenders, Christina and Nicole, poured a great Templetons Manhattan. And Lisa, one of the owners, was there carefully overseeing every dish that came out of the kitchen. The beer selection is 8 craft brews on tap; most of them local. And they have plenty of Miller lite and other stuff for you traditional beer drinkers. Their focus seem to be on quality house-made bar food. The Highway House is a welcome addition to the growing Norwood Park restaurant and bar offerings. Stop by and give me a try.
