I don’t know what’s happened but this place has really gone down since we were last in. Our favorites were just«meh». Tonight we got the spring rolls, seafood hot pot and spicy calamari. The spring rolls are tiny but priced the same as other places so it’s less bang for your buck. The calamari wasn’t nearly as good as it used to be. The hot pot was really bland. Plus, the staff hovered over us the whole time and due to their insistence that we turn the hot pit higher, everything was overcooked and chewy. It was just an overall bad experience and I wish we had picked elsewhere for dinner tonight. I will not be back.

My husband picked up take out for us. He had the orange chicken and rice I had the papaya salad. Unfortunately I got really bad food poisoning from the salad. Won’t be eating here again

Hoanh Long is one of my favorite restaurants. This place has made phở one of my favorite foods. If you’re in the area or looking for some good phở, I definitely recommend this place, and suggest getting their phở tai. The phở tai is very simple, with just beef slices and noodles(bean sprouts, basil, jalapeños slices on the side). There are no strange looking meats or overpowering flavors. Lastly, their avocado bubble tea is seriously the best avocado bubble tea I’ve ever had… The thick, creamy, and sweet avocado taste is amazing. It definitely tastes better than it might sound. If you like avocado flavors, I really recommend it. FYI: Closed on Mondays!

The phở was spot on. Really enjoyed the homemade spicy sauce on the side.

I came here for lunch on a day I was feeling a little sick, and their phở hit the spot! It was pretty quiet inside, but I was having an early lunch. I got the phở with meatballs and rare beef. Comes with a bunch of traditional garnishes on the side, but definitely try the broth alone first as it’s delicious. The staff is always polite and friendly. I came back again to enjoy the same dish on a wintry day and, once again, the phở was just what I needed. During both visits, I took half the phở home as the portions are very large. Definitely hit this spot up if you’re in the neighborhood and want some delicious phở!

Invited by friends who dine here a couple times a year, I wasn’t even aware of this place although I’ve lived in Rogers Park much of my life. If you want authentic Vietnamese cuisine in a neighborhood that’s outside of the hustle/bustle of many, this is a great choice. Easy street(metered) parking too. Not sure exactly what we had because friends ordered, but we started with some type of veggie wrap that you assemble yourself in a rice paper skin. It was delicious, despite our struggles to get it rolled up like the waitress demonstrated… lol! Spring rolls were fresh and tasty. We shared the stir fried chicken and grilled eggplant as entrees. My dining partners didn’t much care for the eggplant, but I was pleased. I definitely plan on coming back to try the Phở that everybody raves about.

I am so glad that authentic Vietnamese cuisine has expanded outside of the Argygle/Uptown neighborhood. Exciting news for an avid phở-eater. With the weather getting colder recently, I’m been ordering phở more often. Whether I’m in the surburbs or in the city, I feel like I’m noticing Vietnamese joints popping up everywhere. Either that or I’m looking out for it more, but my phở radar is constantly ON. That being said, I was very satisified with the phở here. I came here on a Sunday evening with a relative from out of town. As we were leaving and hopping back into the car, we asked each other what we would rate it — both of us saying«five stars» without hesitation. Kid-friendly, open spaces, attentive service. This is definitely a family spot, with a good mix of neighborhood residents(I presume), and reflected the diversity of North Park. Our server came by our table mulitple times, ensuring that our water glasses were filled. A sheet of specials was taped to the wall by our table, specifying items not currently on the menu… …tempting, but our mission did not waver. We both ordered the #26 phở: hoanh long special beef noodle soup(a mix of all their meats, including meatball, tendon, tripe etc.). It was delicious and hit the spot. Their garnish was fresh, and had plenty of jalapenos. I happily soaked these into the broth, which was aromatic, rich and full-bodied, exactly as it should be, and full of chopped green onion. I also liked how they sprinkled black pepper on the phở right before serving it. A bonus for presentation and extra flavor. This is a great spot if you live in the northern suburbs(Hey Unilocal Northshore! This place is awesome!) and don’t want to head all to way to Uptown for some authentic phở. The closest spot for phở used to be Joy Yee’s in Evanston, but now Hoanh Long in North Park will be my next go-to whenever I’m back in the Skokie/Evanston area.

2.5 stars. Food was ok. Price was acceptable. Service was a little slow. The hot pot took too long… came pretty much when everyone else was already almost done with their individual dishes. The phở was meh. Tasted similar to canned phở broth seasoned with phở cubes(one-dimensional was used to describe it). Also, white table cloths and people bringing in wine? not my preferred ambience for Vietnamese«street» food. And, no free parking. There was 7 of us in our group. We neither loved it nor hated it … none of us would go back.

Awesome place. ONLY downside about this place is that it is closed on Mondays. Always in the mood for a great bowl of Phở after a crazy weekend. Although it is paid street parking outside, I have never seen anyone walk around to actually check to see if cars have paid. Food: Awesome Phở. Better then most phở places around Argyle. Great beef flavor and the bowls are full. They do not skimp on the meats. $ 8 for a bowl, $ 8 for Chipotle, or $ 8 at Panda Express… pretty obvious choice. The hot sauce they give you on the side is also amazing. It does not seem like the«store bought» type of a sauce, and a little goes a long way. Shrimp and chinese sausage spring rolls are a very good size and fresh. The rice paper is never stale or hard like some other places. Service: Great service. Every time any employee walks out of the kitchen, they scan the room to make sure everyone is doing good. This place can get pretty busy, but service is quick and efficient. Also BYOB. Quick in and out noodle place in under 20 minutes if needed.

My boyfriend and I had been here 3 – 4 times. We stopped going there few months ago because there was a poop in the soup last time we were there. Literally — POOP! I wish one of us had taken a picture of it but it was too stinky so we didn’t want to get any closer. We didn’t want to have another bowl of phở so we didn’t bring it up right away. We suspected that it was a mouse poop which was originally hiding somewhere in the pile of raw veggies for phở and got into my boyfriend’s soup when he put the veggies in his bowl since it was pretty intact and didn’t look like it was cooked in a soup for long. The food was okay — at least we liked it. If you happen to dine here or are planning to… sincerely wish you the best… P.s if you don’t believe what I wrote, click«more reviews”– I saw someone else having similar experience before.

Had lunch here the other day with a buddy who just had to check out Devon Ave after seeing it in AA magazine. I’m not a fan of Indian food but I do like Vietnamese & Thai which is what I’d consider this place to be. We both had different stir fry chicken, mine with cashews, yum. My buddy had it with curry which he thought was great. We also had the spring rolls which were huge & delicious. The service was good and the place was casual but modern & clean. Give them a try!

After driving past this place hundreds of times, I finally caved & decided to try it. Went here with 3 other people yesterday for dinner. We were starving after shopping for hours. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the smell of incense in the air. I kinda liked it :) We ordered banh xeo & special phở & bun bo hue. I actually had high expectations for this place since a few of my friends have recommended it to me. The banh xeo had to be the best I’ve ever had. Thin, crispy pancake & fresh veggies. Everyone thought it could have used some more shrimp & pork. I didn’t care. I’ve tried so many banh xeo at other restaurants & this is my favorite one. The phở had tons of meat & meatballs. The broth had a strong fragrance from all the spices they used. 3 people ordered this & they all agreed that it was delicious. I didn’t have this, but I did try the broth & meatballs. It was really good. I had the bun bo hue. I asked if it would have blood when I ordered it & the server said they didn’t have any. I was a little disappointed, but I understood. Sometimes the store doesn’t sell it. I’ve experienced it before too. Anyway, I couldn’t get extra blood like i usually do, but I was still very happy with it. Tons of meat, beef, pork, & Vietnamese sausage, super fresh noodles, & savory broth. I will def be going back whenever I’m in the area. It’s a little closer than Argyle & tastier too. I think I found my new favorite Vietnamese place :)

This restaurant has become my most favorite Vietnamese restaurant. Forget Argyle. They have variety of dishes and they taste good. My friends and I ordered: –Papaya salad with beef: the best. The marinated beef is so good. So flavorful. The papaya salad is a bit salty, but still good. –Vietnamese crêpe(banh xeo): Crispy and tasty.

I’ve eaten in the restaurant and had carry out and delivery from here over the past few months. When we dined in with friends, the lemongrass spicy shrimp was full of firey awesomeness! I loved it! The spring rolls were great. and I really liked the dipping sauce. My friends really enjoyed their dishes as well, and the waitstaff was helpful and friendly, especially about keeping our drinks topped off. Another time, when I and the hubby were sick, we ordered some Phở and ginger chicken to be delivered. The portions were very generous. I think I got three meals out of the soup alone and there was plenty of noodles, sprouts and basil, as well as lime and jalepeno slices. The broth was extremely tasty, and came with a brown sauce and a chili sauce to add.(Non-fire-eaters might want to go easy on it tho, the chili sauce was pretty bold.) The ginger chicken was FULL of ginger, which is what I wanted, as I was battling a cold. It might be a bit obstreperous for people who aren’t so much into spicy food, but I credit it and the phở with vanquishing my cold. This has made our short list of local places to go and I know we will be eating here again soon.

I love Phở. A big bowl of Phở is so comforting and a great way to warm up during cold weather. I had HL bookmarked for a while and finally figured out a day when I could visit. The space is comfortable, clean, roomy and family friendly. Their menu is huge – everything just sounds so delicious. I went with my usual Goi Cuon(fresh springrolls with shrimp) and the Phở Tai Gan(Phở with beef and tendon). Service was fine and food prep was timely. I loved the springrolls – they were smaller than what I normally see but still made well. The peanut sauce served on the side was delicious and had a tad of spice – the spice being something a little different from what I’ve found elsewhere, but a nice touch. The Phở was good and really warmed me up, the broth fragrant and a little on the sweet side. I was pleasantly surprised that the beef had a lot of flavor too – something I don’t always find when I order Phở. The noodles were plentiful although a little too al dente for my taste. Looking around and spying on other diners, it seemed like the papaya salad with beef was one of the most popular dishes and I definitely plan on trying that next time. The menu, being as large as it is, has a lot to offer folks.

My cousins and I were super hungry so we decided to come to this place. It had pretty good ratings on Unilocal and it was opened until 11pm on a Saturday so why not? As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated promptly. Because we were so hungry, we ordered right away. We all ordered the Phở Hoanh Long Special #23! It came out in about fifteen minutes and the portion size to price was a nice ratio. It had very flavorful broth and the beef brisket was very tender. Lots of noodles too! I do wish that the broth was a bit warmer. The smoothies were good but they were $ 4 which is more expensive than other places. The server was mildly friendly and she did what she needed to do. Nothing more or extra, just met expectations. Overall, excellent phở and average service!

This is a friend of mine and my favorite«post 5K» spot. I had actually been here with her a while back but forgot to review it. We came again recently and they had remodeled so it really added to the ambiance. This last time I ordered a big bowl of soup with big beef chunks in it. I don’t remember what it was called. It was good. The service is good and the food comes out quickly. Overall, I rememeber both experiences being good here.

I hardly ever come through the Rogers Park neighborhood, but we were hungry after a day of work and watching friends create a new sidewalk. We ordered banh xeo(looked good, huge appetizer), papaya salad with grilled beef(confused it with Thai spicy papaya salad, but it was still tasty. I’ve never had it with meat before) and phở with rare beef and tripe(a sweet broth, but still very flavorful. The bean sprouts were fresh). If you’re ordering phở with rare beef, please remember to submerge meat underneath the noodles so it can cook in the broth. No one is trying to serve you raw meat unless it’s meant to be a tartare. Standout place! Very happy to have stumbled upon this restaurant. They even serve Vietnamese hot pot!
