I live about two blocks from Jane’s so it’s the closest and most convenient breakfast place. I’ve been here twice, breakfast both times, and had excellent food and service! A little spendy but nothing that I wouldn’t expect from a non chain, non greasy spoon. Will continue coming here! One of my favorite breakfast places in Chicago. I highly recommend it!

Love this place. Great pancakes and scones. Ordered the eggs Benedict($ 13) with sauce on the side and turkey sausage. Potatoes come in a scoop– okay but not ur traditional potatoes. Food was lukewarm and I like it hot. They take reservations which was nice. I want to try the French toast next time– looks amazing. Cool atmosphere. Will come back.

I dined on a Friday night with my girlfriend and brother. Everything looked delicious and we had trouble deciding. We ended up getting the chicken with goat cheese and a couple sandwiches to share. The sandwiches came with mashed potatoes and mixed greens The ambience and dark mood was awesome. The Negroni was delicious. The place reminded me of a wine bar, they should add more wines. Also add crème brûlée for dessert! I have lived nearby for years and finally made it to this stretch on cortland, will return for brunch sometime.

*No longer serving bottomless mimosas* I just want to put that out there for anyone who is looking for a bottomless mimosas spot in Chicago. Apparently bottomless mimosas is now illegal in Chicago. Still I’d you want to enjoy brunch at a charming café, this place is definitely a great choice. The lights are a bit dim, creating more of an intimate ambiance. As far as the music goes, they play a mix of old school pop/r&b and contemporary jazz(think the temptations, Lauren hill, ect). The environment is clean and cozy. They have your standard brunch menu but everything was SO tastety! Fresh blueberries were served in my blueberry pancake. The spinach and feta omelet was so flavor filled and more than enoough. Omg please try the butter! It’s whipped with honey! So good with the sourdough bread. Our server, Emily Rose, was so sweet and adorebale. She was on top of things the whole time. I would definitely come back to this place my next Chicago visit. Cute, quaint, cozy, good food, and great service.

Jane’s was a wonderful restaurant that provided an excellent dining experience. The ambiance was warm and cozy. The food was delicious. I ordered the steak. It came with a great wine reduction and cauliflower mashed potatoes. The meat was perfectly prepared. I can’t wait to go back and try something new. They have great options for vegetarians as well. The cocktail menu was very creative. My friend ordered a ginger pisco sour and was not disappointed. Finally, we got their special gelato. With flavors like butter rum, berry and goat cheese, and sea salt and caramel you really can’t go wrong. Like I said, can’t wait to return.

Aha! Finally remembered the name of this place out of no where. I visited ~1 mo ago. My favorite thing was the honey butter w/bread they give you(which they sell by the pound). I am mad, because this turned me on to liking butter and am saying good by to some of my health conscious ways. Got mimosas(ok) & shared a chimichurri steak and eggs + breakfast burrito which were both great. I got unbelievably full. Nice little gem and belongs to the treasure chest of amazing foods in CHI town

Really solid place for dinner in Bucktown. Good menu, good(seasonal) cocktail list, and good service! We have gone a few times and gotten the front tables in the window and have had a really nice date night. Definitely check it out if you are in the area and want to switch it up from the crowded 6 corners, and other high traffic areas and still have a good meal with some nice atmosphere.

I liked it. Hadn’t been here before and grabbed a groupon to great effect… read, the primary reason for establishments offering groupon is to get repeat business and i will definitely be back. The décor and atmo is decidedly rustic and perfect for Fall and Winter dining, very comfy and cozy. The food matches the theme as i’d describe it as comfort food with flair. Started with the Blue Bulleit — Bourbon, blueberries, ginger beer and a touch of lemon. The corn chowder lived up to the comfort food overtone as did the NY Strip with a red wine reduction, bleu cheese polenta, rapini and roasted garlic… so good. Also split the pear salad which is an easy recommendation for a start to your meal.

The food was good, but the service was what tipped this potential 4 star to a 5! The owner of the restaurant continually checked on us, our server was awesome(and also from my state), and the vibes were chill and homely. Originally, my friend had recommended this location because of the ‘bottomless mimosas’ claim and $ 10 burgers. This instantly drew me to say yes, despite the odd 3.5 rating. When we got there, I thought I was accidentally stepping into the wrong shop — it’s too darn quaint! But after getting in, I realized that this was the definition of an American Mom & Pop shop. As previously stated, the food and service quickly proved in support of my assumption. Chicago bless you Jane’s. You have earned a returner(next time I’m in town). :)

You guys get 5 stars because you replaced my boyfriend’s entire Bloody Mary that he spilled all over our table. But you also probably actually deserve 5 stars for the experience as a whole. We arrived around 2 pm on a Saturday afternoon for brunch and were seated immediately in one of the cute 2 top tables in the front windows. We started with bloody marys with coronita beer backs. This place is a testament to the fact that you don’t need all these ridiculous garnishes(a pizza slice??? A hotdog??) on a Bloody Mary for it to be desirable as long as the mix is good. And at Jane’s, it is good. Nice and thick, with just enough spice to give you a kick but not so much that your eyes water. They brought some bread out next, which was alright but the sweet butter that came with it was on point. It was sweet and cold and I wanted to save some for dessert. I ordered the spinach and feta omelet, which came with sausage and potatoes. The omelet itself was huge and STUFFED with feta… The cheesier the better. The sausage was tasty and the potatoes were good, even if I did see them scooping them out of a bucket on the way back to the bathroom. My boyfriend got the steak and eggs; said the steak was a little chewy but the green sauce that drenched them was really good so I kept dipping my taters in it. The food was great but the service here puts them above the rest – after my boyfriend spilled his entire Bloody Mary, they cleaned up immediately and brought him a full new one in its place. I will hopefully be coming back here for romantic dinners in the future!

This place is actually super kids friendly. I booked our reservation at Opentable with request of two high chairs. When we arrived, they acknowledged our request right away and got us seated outside with convenient setting for young kids. The patio was kind of cute. And the service was very warm and welcoming. Hubbie ordered the New York strip sandwich and oh man oh man he was happy about that. The meat was so tender and flavorful. The pickles added a kick. Outstanding! The soup of the day was cucumber with avocado. It was alright since it tastes a lot like my cold soup from Vitamix at home. Will be back for more.

Bland. Competent. Bland means nearly everything on the menu is a bore. * The one saving grace. Bland and competent does mean good mashed potatoes. So if you haven’t had your mashed potato fix in a while, here is a place you can go for that.

This place is my shiiiiiiiitt! I originally came here for a Groupon and fell in mad, tasty love that night. The food is amaz! They have an appropriate sized menu so that every item is done perfectly and receives correct attention. –I highly recommend«Burger Night» where they have an extra burger menu with specialty burgers not available other nights.(sorry forgot which night it was). And the surprise best part is that they do not offer french fries because they don’t have a fryer, so burgers come with mashed potatoes and greens which are actually the best part! I honestly look forward to them when I know I’m coming here, like Homer with a tilted head, saliva drooling down his mouth, «ahhhhhhhh…» Yum! –Added bonus for this restaurant is that the cocktails are to die for! They’re shaken, they’re muddled, got shit like basil and thyme thrown in ‘em! Plus, staff is good, place is clean, yada, yada… Go eat here!

I used to live in the neighborhood and moved away about 10 years ago. Jane’s seems to have gotten better since I lived there. The staff couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful, from our arrival until we were leaving and walking through the outdoor seating. And the menu is more«Americana» than I remember it being, but still with very interesting and contemporary twist and flourishes. The architecture is essentially an old, gutted, refurbished house(and given the front windows, with elevated seating, maybe a store?) that offers a quaint — really historic — feel in an area that has gentrified to the point of being almost generic. Top-tier service, uniqueness, interesting architecture, and a great menu… that’s the list. Check them out.

Brunch is delicious!!! Spinach & feta omelette was bursting with cheese! Yes-PLEASE! Pork belly dish was amazing. The one thing I didn’t love was the potatoes on the side. Great coffee and service.

I am really unhappy with the meal I was given at Jane’s tonight. I got a «grain bowl» with chicken that had no flavor. There were garbanzo beans that looked as if they had just been slopped out of a can and onto my plate. Chicken had no taste. My desert was called«crème brûlée with berries» that literally had one berry, not berries. This place is super overpriced and the atmosphere is taking and cliché. The chairs are uncomfortable and are too large to comfortably sit next to someone else. I could go on and on about how bad my experience was but I won’t. Please skip dining at Jane’s.

I enjoyed a very nice low key dinner yesterday. it wasn’t busy but it was also a Wed evening. The service was great and helpful with recommendations. We took advantage of the BYOB on Wednesday nights and brought a bottle of wine. the place is rather comfortable and cozy. We enjoyed sitting by the window too. With suggestions, we ordered: –the wrapped rare tuna to start. this was okay. It sounded like a light dish but the tortilla wrap made it a bit heavy. I liked that the shitake mushrooms were not overpowering. it was bit $ tho so I’d pass on this. –The New York strip — we liked this dish. the polenta was a unique enough side that we don’t normally see but it could be better if it was a creamier version — The grouper — I liked everything in the dish too. initially you are wondering what is this odd black rice but it was all very good. I’m glad we got a soup spoon to pick up all the broth. Overall, we’d recommend this place. it was nice and quaint. the kitchen is near the seating area so you could smell the good stuff being prepared.

When was the last time you went to a favorite restaurant after being away for 5+ years and found it just as amazing as when you were there last? Or even more surprising as good as it was when it first opened and you were a regular 20 years ago? In my experience, it has never happened. If such restaurants are still open, they’re sad, tired, shades of their former selves. But with zero exaggeration, Jane’s has maintained all that made it a perfect dining experience when it opened in the ‘90s. What distinguished this Bucktown eatery when it first opened still makes it a standout today: Fantastic ambience; friendly, attentive, balanced service; top-notch food. The space, staff and clientele feel current without projecting airs or hipsterism — which says something for Bucktown. A true neighborhood gem. The only reason my friends and I fell away was because our lives moved out of the neighborhood. But I feel like I’ve run into an old friend on the street. We’ll definitely be putting Jane’s back in the intentional rotation!

It really was just ok. Came here on a groupon and didn’t regret it, but I wasn’t all that impressed. Our waitress, as hard as she tried, was generally annoying, but that was just a personality mis-match on my part, not because she wasn’t good at her job. Although, she interrupted us way too much, which I could have done without. Let us order and then let us eat– I don’t need extra conversation. I brought a friend for that. Anyway, the food was just alright. I ordered the goat-cheese stuffed chicken, which was supposed to be amazing, and it was good, but not great. My friend seemed to be picking a bit at her plate as well and didn’t ask to have it wrapped up, which she usually does. So yeah– we were fine with the food, but definitely not raving about it.
