Really excellent food. They are very quick, so if you don’t call in your order ahead of time, you’re fine. Very friendly service.

I ordered veggie pad Thai with tofu and It tasted so fishy and disgusting. I couldn’t even choke down a second bite. I had it delivered so it was a total waste of money and time. I won’t be ordering from there ever again.

Jim is a good place to get takeout when you’re in a hurry and in the mood for Thai. I live very near here, and it’s so easy to put an order in online and walk over to pick it up. I’m not sure that I would eat in the restaurant itself, because it can get a little smoky from the other food being cooked up. The food isn’t 5-star quality by any means, but you do get a tasty meal for the price, and the staff is always considerate when ordering/picking up the food.

have had 2 different meals delivered. Each meal was drenched in the sauce they use. will not order again.

My recommendation is order takeout from here, but don’t come for a sit-down meal. The restaurant itself is very small and has cafeteria-like tables and chairs. There’s really no ambiance. I’d say it almost hinges on uncomfortable surroundings. The food on the other hand is good for cheap takeout. The pad thai isn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it’s far from the worst. If you’re order equals more than $ 25, you get a free order of pad thai so that’s a bonus. The dish that stands out to me here is the panang curry noodle off the crispy zone menu. It’s incredibly rich, but so scrumptious. The pad see eiu was also better than average as was the teriyaki chicken.

I never thought I’d do a 2 star review of Jim’s, but I guess if I could’ve given 2.5 stars, I would. I’ve gone there regularly before in the past, as well as eaten there, and always been satisfied and left a good tip, but this time… I bought for pickup online first, which amounted to $ 15 and some change. Then decided that I’d want to eat their catfish ginger there – since that’s the dish I’ve almost always get. When it came, I was surprised in an unpleasant way – because they served it on a MUCH smaller plate with less food then it’s been served on in the past! It was good, but… THESMALLERPORTIONATTHEHIGHERPRICE! Meanwhile, a couple was having a date a couple tables over, and NOTONLY were the plates bigger, but piled much higher! I DONTGETIT. SOWRONG. I asked for extra rice, which Jim gave me, but in the past, there’s always been enough catfish ginger for two servings of rice. Last night, there was only enough left for maybe half the extra rice. I’m Asian, and like I said, in the past, the catfish ginger has always been served on the bigger plate with the bigger portion, so I’m not sure what happened here. I wouldn’t have charged for the extra rice, considering the portion size issue. I work hard for my money, AND I’ve always been a good customer who tips well, AND I’d ordered about $ 30 food all told – including the takeout! YOUHADNOREASONTOGIVEMESUCH A SMALLPORTIONOFCATFISHGINGERWHENTHEDATINGCOUPLEHADSOMUCHMOREFOODONLARGERPLATES!!! (Note that I don’t make a whole lot of money, try to get my money’s worth, and hadn’t eaten lunch because I THOUGHT I’d get my money’s worth at Jim’s last night. I was wrong!) I never thought I’d be disappointed in Jim’s, but I was last night. I’d never thought I’d see the day when the rice would overwhelm the catfish ginger, but it did last night. I still tipped – not as much as I would’ve, but considering the takeout I also ordered, the portion shrinkage, and the that eating there for me consists of taking my order and handing me my food, then taking away my neatly stacked plates cleaned of food and a non-messy table – there’s not a whole lot of «serving» I need. Despite use of CAPS(as the only means to emphasize my portion outrage), I’ve always been a quiet, no fuss, very low-maintenance customer. So WHY do me so wrong, Jim? WHYYYYYYYYYY!!! I was also especially craving my usual portion size due to having a cold and sore throat, so wanted to have a decent sized portion of that gingery goodness to take home. SOSAD!!! :(:(:( I’ve never been to Penny’s because I’ve always liked Jim’s do much, but next time I’ll opt to try it instead. It’s especially wrong to serve a good customer such a small size when she can look over and see TWO peoples plate piled high with food on such bigger plates. W R O N G !!!

This place is fantastic. I lived a few blocks away for two years and ate here all the time. Great deal on the lunch special. I came in once and had forgotten my wallet. They said they could tell I looked very hungry and they fed me on the house. I love watching the Thai news channel they have on sometimes.

TAKEOUTREVIEWONLY. i had $ 10 in postmate delivery credit and despite living a little closer to downtown, figured to order somewhere a little more north because the prices were cheaper. I was pretty disappointed and should have probably just stuck with tiparos down the street from my house. I ordered two noodle dishes that both arrived in styrofoam boxes. Unlike most places that fill the takeout containers up to the brim, both were a little more than half filled. I was unsure if this was the«lunch special» portions as both the food dishes I had ordered was indeed on their lunch special menu, but I was charged full price, so maybe their«regular portions» were just small? The smaller than usual portions would have been sufficient if the food was good, but it really was just whatever. Disappointed all around.

I wanted to like Jim Noodle and Rice so much that I visited 2x in 2 weeks. I tried different dishes and just found the flavors to fall flat. The food is basic and doesn’t rise to the standard of restaurant quality Thai food. I would not recommend dining in as the place lacks ambiance. Very friendly staff and quick service. With all the Thai options in the city, I would spend your money elsewhere that is more authentic.

Absolutely love this place. Great food, good people. Also recently discovered they have a small area with outdoor seating(The Garden). Had a blast there with some friends there the other night. Also — BYOB! I am moving out of Lincoln Park in the next few weeks but will keep coming back to Jim Thai!

I see a review here from someone sensitive to msg. I am also extremely sensitive to msg, though instead of stomach aches(which can be caused by other things) I get debilitating migraines that don’t come from anything else. I’ve been here countless times, have had chicken and beef foods and have NEVER had a single reaction to anything here. Love the pad Thai, crab Rangoon, curry, everything I’ve tried is amazing

Best Thai food in all Chicago! Had it everywhere, and no joke, this place is the best. Great service. Quick and piping hot when delivered.(The owner, who also cooks some of the food!, dropped off our meal once when we ordered past 10pm. Such great service!) Good prices. Amazing flavors. We love: Pad Sew Ew; Bangkok Chicken; Panang Curry Everything is delish!

I have intolerance to MSG, I instantly get severe stomachache. Their menu in big letters says — No MSG. It must be a lie. I went to this place twice hoping I was wrong because it’s just so convenient for us to come here. Each time when I had a dish with chicken in it I got severe pains. MSG is a meat tenderizer. Try their soup with chicken. It melts in your mouth to the point that it’s just unnaturally soft. Yep– MSG. Also this place cuts corners in food prep and obviously people don’t notice based on favorable reviews. Try Tom Yum soup(hot and sour) and then Tom Kha Khai soup(in coconut milk). It’s the same soup only they dumped coconut milk on top of one of them. Wow And it’s an open kitchen with no exhaust. It stinks in there to the suffocating point. Why bother with this place when there’s Penny’s within walking distance?

Good for take-out! Dine in, and you may smell like a greasy frying pan for a few days. Pad Thai is amazing!

So we were watching the cinematic masterpiece Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones and decided, hell yeah, why not order some Thai food? After using Jim Noodle & Rice’s online ordering system, we were delightfully alarmed to see a coupon offer for a FREE order of potstickers(6) after spending at least $ 20.00 on our meal. After ordering disgusting amount of entrees and sides, our final order totaled over $ 38. Content with our late-night decisions thus far, we hit the ‘Apply’ button next to the potstickers deal and two things happened: The button switched to ‘Remove,’ implying it had been confirmed at the coupon for the order, and the FREE order of potstickers appeared in the list in which our original orders had been slotted. Great success! The order went through and the driver was here in a heartbeat(read: somewhere over 30 minutes). The delivery man braved the subzero windchill like a champ, and we basically had a lump of delicious food waiting to be crushed. Some beers were popped in celebration, however, upon spilling our bounty onto the coffee table, we noticed that *the perfectly steamed potstickers were nowhere to be found*. Unrighteous. I took the lead and immediately called the restaurant, explaining to him exactly what we had done in taking advantage of the all too enticing coupon. His explanations: «Oh, we don’t see that over here.» — «I think you have to put a comment on one of your orders that you wanted to use a coupon.» — «I’m not sure what coupons we have.» No, sir. I knew exactly what I was doing. My crew had a 5-minute conversation about exactly which appetizer we wanted on our coupon. Everyone had been strategically executed since 6pm this evening. Clearly, the manager had no control over the situation, and as a result, I now have to eat crab rangoons without a softer appetizer to balance out the texture. Severely disappointed, Jim Noodle & Rice. But damn, the food we did get is good.

I’m absolutely obsessed with Jim Noodle. It’s my favorite Asian restaurant I’ve found in the city. I used to live right around the corner, but even since I’ve moved I still make the trek to the area for Jim. I’ve tried a variety of menu items, my favorite being the Pad See Ew. Don’t like the small, slightly dingy exterior of the building fool you, this place is a gem!!! Would recommend to anyone.

Jim Noodle first introduced me to Thai food ten years ago and its been a relatively inexpensive and delicious experience. But lately it’s apparent how much they’ve been cutting corners since then. Their prices have risen for smaller portions. Last night they delivered their hot noodles in cheaper styrofoam containers that leaked out of the bag they were packaged in. I’m afraid that the warping styrofoam might have melted chemicals into the food. Thus we ended up tossing out our Pad Kee Mao upon delivery. Although their fried tofu cannot be beat, their spring rolls are marginal at best for any thai restaurant appetizer mainstays. Jim our relationship is over.
