I think they are a little over priced. I was attracted by the display but so disappointed that none of the food on the display are available. Finally ordered the hotpot and just so so.

DELISH I can sit here for hours just dunking food into the pot. Desert is always yummy no matter what you get. Wish the place was a tad bit bigger but it’s nice that it’s smaller so the wait staff is more tentative towards your table although they never refilled my water. But overall Joy Yees is always winning choice

Japanese spin off of the pan Asian series of restaurants. The food is ok. It’s nothing spectacular but not bad either. We did some of the stir fry beef dishes. One dish came out hot and the other was kind cool. I guess they finished one first and did the other one before brining it out. A lot of the other guests were doing the Shabu Shabu. If you want the novelty of the Shabu Shabu table side cooking then it’s probably a milder option versus the Szechuan alternatives. TL;DR Mediocre Japanese spin off.

This place is decent for its shabu-shabu. I have been here quite a lot, and each time we ordered different kind of shabu-shabu, and they have been pretty good. It is getting a bit pricey than they used to be, but it is still worth it. I also like their red bean shave ice as a dessert, it is good. One thing that can be improved is service, but you are eating in Chinatown, not sure if it can be expected too much. LOL. Overall, decent place for shabu-shabu for sure.

Disclaimer: I’m #teamhotpot, but I guess shabu-shabu is not too bad. The food is pretty good. We ordered a few plates of meat and seafood, with some veggies mixed in. Everything was fresh and yummy. Nobody got food poisoning that night. The place lets you mix your own dipping sauce, with plenty of options like chives, roasted garlic and different types of soy sauce. Pretty cool and convenient for both parties. I liked the spicy anchovies sate sauce a little too much, kept going back for more. Nobody can judge me! They also offer tons of smoothies and drinks. We didn’t try any though. Looks good on the menu. Prices were reasonable. We ended paying about $ 100 after tax/tip for 3 people, and everybody left with a full stomach. However, just FYI, there’s an all-you-can-eat hot-pot place a few doors down for $ 25/person. If you want lots of meat and seafood, I guess that’s the way to go. Service was also good. We got our stuff promptly and servers seemed nice. JYP is both group and FA friendly. There was a big family with an active toddler sitting near us and the employees didn’t seem to mind one bit. There was also a guy enjoying a shabushabu by himself in the corner as well. This place is one of my Chicago friends’ fav spot. I definitely won’t mind revisiting next time I’m in town.

Just stopped in for some appetizers. Would like to come back for a meal. Good service. Dumplings were the highlight. The soups looked good as did the mini grills to cook your meat on.

I have been wanting to try Joy Yee Plus for a long time, I love Shabu Shabu when prepared and presented properly. Joy Yee on Irving has been our go-to place for years, never disappointing on any level. Joy Yee Plus is the exact opposite. The staff is not only rude and elusive, but not helpful, even when asked directly. Let’s move to the cleanliness factor. I had to ask three times to have my dirty, used water glass replaced. The tables are dirty, the floor sticky and when I happened to look up to the ceiling, I saw filth that must have taken years to accumulate. Now, the food, while adding the sauces offered(that you must go and fetch for yourself and are charged $ 1 per plate AND visit) add some flavor, the broth is ‘one note’ lacking in any depth of flavor. I will stick with the Lakeview location only because of their track record, delicious food and cleanliness.

This is my second time here on Sunday 21, June. My friends and I ordered sha-bu sha-bu sets and fresh fruit smoothies. They were so fresh! I would recommend beef broth. The servers always came and filled it when it needed. Affordable and delicious! I walked out with full belly!!!

Sometimes a better deal than all you can eat hotpot. The broth is lighter. Portion sizes are definitely enough, you won’t leave feeling too bloated. and you pay less than you would for AYCE. The service is fine though I wish the tables were bigger so you don’t feel cramped and that they actually left the sauces at your table instead of you constantly asking for them to bring you more dipping sauces. You can also get the same types of smoothies/milk tea/boba as the actual Joy Yee so you don’t need to make a separate trip for that. Joy yee plus also has some yogurt drinks that the actual Joy Yee’s doesn’t have. Definitely worth trying if you’ve never had shabu shabu.

Shabu shabu is not to shabby. Get it? I’ve been here multiple times and have enjoyed it a great extent. It has a very nice family style dining arraignment worth a delicious selection of meat, veggies, noodles, and broth. I would definitely recommend

Best Place for Shabu Shabu! The Prime Rib eye is Incredible! For an appetizer try the fried Squid legs on a stick… I love the variety of additional raw ingredients they have for me to pick and choose from. They also have quite the variety of teas and smoothies so you cannot go wrong here.

It was cold and I needed some hot drink, so we stopped by this place hoping to get a hot milk tea. The place was packed. I emphasized ‘hot’ and ‘no pearl’ twice when placing order. We waited only 5 min because most people were dining in so the drink line went relatively fast. I thought it was weird to see my hot milk tea came in regular plastic cup for cold drink, with pearls. The place was getting crowded so hubby and I quickly left the place. I was wearing gloves so I couldn’t tell the drink was lukewarm until I got into the car. I had great experience with this place. But how could they mess up such easy order? My husband said he saw them putting ice in my drink then removed and added water(he should have told me right away so I could complaint). That is very disappointing. Aren’t they suppose to make a new one? I love milk tea but this lukewarm(and quickly turned cold) milk tea was a huge disappointment.

It’s an absolute OBSESSION! We are officially obsessed with the beef broth hotpot here. We moved from Boston a few months ago, and was introduced to Shabu at Joy Yee Plus by our friends who have lived in Chicago for a while. We’ve tried several hot pot places around Chicago and weren’t really impressed with any other hot pot places besides Joy Yee Plus. We’ve taken all of our family and friends who have visited for Shabu here and everyone seemed as pleased as we were. The service is also great and prices are very reasonable.

This is my first time trying Joyee’s sister restaurant. It’s smaller and more intimate. What this restaurant specialize in is hot pots. We weren’t sure what to mix and match so we chose a package. It was called the prime rib eye steak shabu shabu. They bring out a pot of beef broth on a burner for you and you throw in your raw ingredients. You’re pretty much cooking your own meal. It was fun in my opinion and the broth had good flavor. For me, I used the broth as more of a flavoring tool for my vegetables and meat. I didn’t really drink the soup because I noticed oil on the top. I knew I would feel really heavy afterwards if I were to drink it. The experience was very casual but I haven’t been to a lot of hot pot restaurants, so it’s nice to know I found one nearby my apartment.

Taste: 4 Location: 4 Cleanliness: 4 Ambience: 3.5 Value: 3 Service: 4 OVERALL = 3.75 * Out of a 5-point scale This is by far my favorite Hot Pot restaurant in Chicago. Price is decent and I like the fact you can mix-and-match your own sauces. I usually get the Beef Combination Hot Pot Set and for 2 people, we’re both more than full. Price is about $ 30 with tips.

Restaurant is a bit cramped but the table layout is efficient given the narrow space. My friend and I dined here for dinner on a Tuesday. We were seated promptly, and ordered one land and sea shabu shabu to split between the two of us. This ended up being the perfect amount of food to fill each of us up and it was absolutely delicious! The whitefish and shrimp were among my favorites. The restaurant also offers an extensive sauce bar for dipping your cooked meats and vegetables. Prices are very reasonable-$ 30 for both of us! I will definitely return.

Oooh, Joy Yee, you’ve been around forever, and you’re a staple to Chicago’s Chinatown. Joy Yee Plus is a(two story?) restaurant that serves a plethora of different foods, but advertises mainly shabu shabu and bubble tea. It’s delicious shabu shabu, especially with the beef and the udon. We also ordered the kimchi udon dish, and it was delicious. I will either try to recreate it, or I’ll just come back for this one. The shabu shabu needs to be seasoned, and they have a «mini-bar» of seasonings. Unfortunately, the little bowls used to carry the seasonings back to your table ran out quickly, so we were forced to go back and forth as needed. In a very very tight restaurant, this made the experience difficult and took away from the meal. Joy Yee, I know you busy, but you need to make some space. Clear out some tables so you can better service the people already in the restaurant instead of trying to squeeze more people in. On that note, service was average. Our mini«stove» to heat our shabu shabu kept burning out, and it took multiple complaints to get it fixed. But our meals arrived quickly and the broth was refilled continuously. The bubble tea took around 10 – 15 minutes to arrive, which was good for such a busy restaurant. The servers constantly looked frazzled, and I felt like every request I had was such a chore. I received some attitude, but I will attribute that to how busy and understaffed the place was. Seriously, more space and less tables in the restaurant please! Other than that, the hot pot was delicious. After working out, this meal was just amazing. Broth needs seasoning, but that’s what the minibar is for. For such busy servers, our food came out correctly and on time. And the bubble tea is always good, but you can’t expect less from Joy Yee when it comes to that.

I question the premise, here in Chinatown, a Chinese run place is serving up Japanese food Chinese style. Well, the Japanese got Shabu-Shabu from the Chinese in the first place(sorry Oka-chan) so I guess it could work. That’s what half the clientele are in here for, and it looks like the people coming to Chinatown for Japanese food are happy with that. The other half are like me, looking for dessert after Chinese cuisine at one of the unabashedly Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, and this is a good place for that. The newly remodeled décor is very Hong Kong chic and the desserts really appeal to the Far Eastern palate.
