Let me begin by stating that I made the appointment for my bridal hair and makeup, as well as the appointments for my 8 bridesmaids and mother, 9 months in advanced and paid a total deposit of $ 320($ 50 for myself and $ 30 for the rest of the girls). Two weeks before my wedding, which I believe is reasonable time in advance to make a change, I called the salon and asked them if we could start an hour earlier, at 6AM, because I was getting a little nervous that we wouldn’t be ready on time for the Mass which started at 1PM. Well I was unable to talk to Juan Daniel directly until a week prior to my wedding because they are so disorganized and never passed along my message to him. I even went to the salon personally and left another message and they told me he would give me a call the next day. That call never came, so I called the next day and he said, «I didn’t even get to see my messages because I had a terrible headache and went home imminently after arriving.» Now let me quote Juan Daniel’s words regarding my question about starting an hour earlier«No I am not waking up earlier and drive all the way from where I live near O’Hare to come and do your makeup.» and«My girls will be working until 7PM the night before and they wont wake up earlier.» Talk about being a DIVA. I then offered to pay more for their services as well as to pick up some of his employees from their homes, yes I even offered that. At the end of this phone call he agreed that he was going to ask his employees and call me back. At around 7PM his assistant, not himself, gave me a call back and told me that they were not going to be able to come in at 6AM and there was no reassurance from them regarding finishing on time the day of the wedding. At this point my thoughts are, this person doesn’t care about his business. Because a caring business owner would do anything to retain a customer especially one who has already made a monetary commitment. Because the lack of reassurance on their part, I ended up making a second appointment elsewhere for 4 of my bridesmaids, thinking that I would only lose the deposit($ 30/girl). Well when I called Juan Daniel’s salon to let them know that 4 girls were no longer going to go with them they proceeded to charge me an extra $ 20 per girl stating that the $ 30 was not the real deposit amount that I was supposed to pay. Who does that? But at this point I was fed up with him so I didn’t mind as long as I knew everyone would be ready on time for Mass. Now if you thought all of this was bad enough wait until you hear this. A day before my wedding I found out that one of my fiancé’s cousins had called Juan Daniel and he personally told her that he could do her hair and makeup at 5AM because he was booked and that was the only availability he had. As you can imagine my jaw dropped I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. A truly unfair business owner. And it doesn’t stop there. I was promised that 4 girls were going to be working on my party starting at exactly 7AM, on top of Juan Daniel doing makeup for 4 of the girls. Well the morning of the wedding, only two of his girls arrived on time, another arrived at 7:20 and to my disbelief started on a lady that wasn’t in my party. A fourth girl came in at around 7:30, and the DIVA, Juan Daniel arrived at around 7:45 and gossiped for a few minutes and then proceeded to do my makeup. Like what kind of business are you running where your employees can do whatever they want and show up late to an appointment. Also on top of being rude and unfair to me, he booked another party at the same time. This screams disorganized and unprofessional. He needs to get his scheduling straight. Now lets talk about hair and makeup. If you think he is the best, think again. My hair and makeup didn’t last all day and it wasn’t any more special than the makeup that my four bridesmaid got at the other salon. I can honestly say that the other girls makeup and hair lasted longer than mine. Never going back to a business that doesn’t care about customers.

Went in to get my hair dyed for the 2nd time in my life. I messed up by not going with Juan Daniel the first time. I got an ombré 2 years ago and still had some bleach on my ends. Thankfully Juan Daniel was a professional, he sat me down and talked me out of going lighter. Wihtouit hesitation he said my hair would start to break off. I was a little disappointed because I came in with a picture of how I wanted my color. Instead he gave me simple but beautiful highlights that everyone loved, over my dark brown/red I had before. I have 3 friends that decided to get the same highlights as me right after. The stylists are funny and very sociable. I was there for about 4 hours. I will be going back soon to go a little lighter. :)

I’ve been a regular here for some years now and I have to say that I’ve always been very happy with the results. Yes, I know its just hair and yes, I know it grows back but wait until it’s you on the receiving end of a bad cut and let’s see how cool you keep. A point that brings me to review my favorite stylist once again. But not without a back story, so here goes. Alas, I should have known better but a couple weeks ago I decided to try a different stylist in my neighborhood(Sigh). Things that drove me to this commit this error: 1. The hot summer sun fried my brain and I didn’t feel like traveling to 63rd and Pulaski by train/bus. 2. New guy had great Unilocal reviews. 3. Price point was about $ 5 less than I usually pay. 4. Being tired of having long hair and wanting instant gratification after finding the perfect cut on Pinterest. Big mistake. I asked for an edgy, elongated, graduated, layered cut. Almost shoulder length front, super short back(had the pic on my phone). What I got was a chin length bob with short bangs. Luckily, I was able to make an appointment for the next day to see Juan Daniel. I was so embarrassed when I walked in because I went to another stylist instead and look, now I had this short, dumb ass haircut. I was afraid that it was unfixable. But Juan Daniel was really empathetic and assured me he could fix it. ANDHEDID! He proceeded to somehow turn it into this very cool, edgy, layered cut that I’m rocking right now. I look great with short hair now thanks to him! Thanks again Dany!

Horrible service! Walked in to get a hair cut and the woman’s sitting on the entrance doing nothing said I could not get a hair cut only because I didn’t have an appointment! She stated that there were two people before me and with an attitude said that if I had no appointment she couldn’t help. Sad that they have such inefficient people working here. I find it ridiculous that you can’t get a simple haircut without an appointment! This was my first time coming in this place and I will not be returning. The owner needs to pay more attention to his workers not willing to do their job. Don’t waste your time coming here go somewhere else people.

First off, if you’re looking for the luxury salon experience in a luxury location with luxury prices, move on. Juan Daniel salon is a clean and simple salon in a working class neighborhood. I come to this salon for the level of expertise, quality and value of service. I could pay $ 200 for the luxury salon ‘experience’ and not get half the result of a decent hair style. Juan Daniel and his staff listen intently to my needs, use their expertise to advise on whether a particular look will work well, make their recommendation and VOILA! They work magic! These guys and gals know hair. They won’t charge you an arm and a leg to give you an amazing result AND they have you looking fabulous in a timely manner. I recommend Juan Daniel Hair Design!

Juan Daniel is the best hairstylist I have ever went to! I told him exactly what I wanted and he did exactly that! I have long hair and only wanted a trim and he did not go wild cutting off my hair I will truly be a longtime customer! He added great style to my hair I look years younger thx Juan Daniel!!!

Juan Daniel is a very professional hair stylist. He took his time talking and listening to me and gave me his opinion. He did an amazing job. I left the salon feeling good and he gave me my confidence back. I am so happy with my hair it looks soft, shiny and healthy. Juan Daniel rocks! He is amazing person. I’m going back. It’s hard to find a good hairstylist who will listen to his customer’s needs. You can tell he has good hands when working your hair. He is awesome! This hairstylist has talent. My experience was simply the best!

It’s such a shame that Juan Daniel has to pay the consequences for his unprofessional and low class workers; with him being such a good hair stylist. The place is dump, and very unorganized. It looks like it’s set up in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Chicago. Very disappointed. I called ahead and scheduled an appt for Juan Daniel to cut my hair since I know his style and i know his experience from other salons. When I arrive, i take a seat and tell the lady that I have an appt with Juan Daniel. She asks me to sit down and wait for him to finish. After he’s done, he checks his schedule to confirm. However, there was another lady(that just arrived i might add) and i have been sitting there for 30 min waiting for him. Juan Daniel says to me that I am not on the schedule. I then answer«how can that be if i called in advanced and confirmed it with the girl who answered.» So he searches and searches until finally he finds my name for another day and time. He apologizes to me and tells me that he can’t see me because he already has someone for that same time. Which I thought was very disrespectful on his part! Now, from my experience owning my own business and having family, and friends that own their own businesses he could have done something to make it up to me. Maybe a free haircut with someone else, or maybe even with him at another time, or he should have apologized to the lady and take me instead. BUTNO. he just said I’m sorry but you have to come back another day. That was a huge turn off and I definitely will not be returning to this place again!!.
