If you want the best steak and eggs come down to South Deering! Portions are huge, so you’ll get your breakfast and lunch all in one! Staff was so friendly despite some costumers ragging on them. It was a busy day for them and they stayed friendly the whole time. I had the steak and eggs– a must when you visit this restaurant. enough for two. Boyfriend had French toast-super tasty. They serve you in stylophone plates, which helps you take your leftovers home!

Seriously really great spot the lady serves you so well I know most people rave about her meats but her pancakes are HUGE and soooooo good! Only thing that sucks is that there hours are hard to figure out but if you’re lucky enough to catch them while they are there you’ll always wanna come back

Can’t go wrong with a HUGE tasty omelette and some hash browns. At my work, we tend to order from Leif’s almost every Saturday. Usually 2 omelettes feed 5 or 6 people. Definitely a great deal for the money.

I’ve been working in the area for a couple weeks. The proportions are huge and the taste is great. I got the steak and egg breakfast plate. The steak had a perfect sear, great flavor and juicy as hell. Her hash browns were the best I’ve ever had. For 14 dollars out the door I see this as a great value. I am a big dude that loves to eat and I could not finish it. I’ll eat it for lunch as well. Check it out for sure

Waited months to come back to! I forgot to mention in my last review don’t be turned off by the looks of the place. Yes it’s small and a lil cluttered but food is amazing you will not be disappointed. I’ve only seen the pancakes and they look as big as my head! The breakfast plates are amazing. She’s closed on Sunday’s. Early Saturday mornings aren’t to busy. Get here if your in the area!!!

I have been looking for this place for a few months, found it and I can’t stay away. The steak, eggs and potatoes are so flavorful. It’s like you cooked it at home with grilled onions. Pretty small place.

Don’t let the crabby old Asian lady scare you away it is apart of her charm. The portions are huge, the food is good and the prices are cheap. You could split your breakfast with someone(the photos do not do it justice). The décor isn’t amazing if your fussy but I don’t care about that. Ill definitely go back next time I’m in Chicago

If you wanna walk straight into an early 1970’s «Working Mans Lunch Counter», this is your place! Inside, it hasn’t been TOUCHED in over 30 years, even a broken stool top has never been replaced. The cast of characters? Everything from Factory Workers, City Workers, Old People, Families, Pimps, Drug Dealers, Gang Members! You get it all here and everyone is cool… On to the food – Keep in mind that ONE Woman«Leif» runs the whole joint! Cooking, Waiting Tables, Register, Carry– Outs. I can honestly say I’ve never seen anyone flip a bigger pancake in my life/definitely an art. I would venture to say that the flat top in back has probably cooked over 100,000 pancakes! This place is all about breakfast, Huge portions of everything all made from scratch and loaded up with BUTTER! Also known for Burgers which are huge(At Least ¾ LB) and served on white bread? Meat had great flavor but the condiments were horrible. Served on a bun with good condiments and this could be mind blowing to say the least. Definite stop if in this area! GTFJD

Good greasy spoon with HUGE portions. Mrs. Leif will scold you if you don’t finish.

This place gives huge portions of food, but to say the food is good would be an overstatement. Without a doubt its single handedly contributing to the Chicago obesity problem. However, if you enjoy huge portions of mediocre food this is your place.

I’ve also seen this place growing up(Hienie’s is right across the street!) but considering it closes at 1pm, I never had the chance to check it out. But I heard many things about their epic breakfast omelettes and hamburgers. Actually, my sister is fan of their burgers. Mind you, my sister is the sweetest thing that ever graced the planet. And I’m not sayin’ that just ‘cuz she’s my sister! She’s got the voice of a butterfly and her kids are more scared of me than they are of her. So, if my sister has COJENES big enough to handle that burger, I figured why not finally give this place a shot… Man oh man, can the food at this place get you some serious hair on your chest! I ordered a Denver omelette(a mountain of what seemed like 6 eggs, cheddar cheese, onions, peppers, tomatoes, and juicy chunks of ham) with a side of some hearty hash browns. I am not lying when I tell you my plate could have easily served three people. I barely consumed a quarter of my plate before I threw in the towel! I can’t wait to go back and try other stuff from their menu. I say this because, the crabby Asian lady who served as the cook, waitress, and cashier steered me a clear from ordering an order of french toast with my meal(she was like, «No…No…No…TOOMUCH! You won’t even finish it!). My sister says she won’t even take custom orders(i.e. no onions, extra cheese, etc.) when people ask for it. She means business, and it shows in her food. p. s. This place gets for 3 stars just because the food was good, but the portions are waaaayy to much for me. I’m sure if I was a trucker, it would get 5 stars! Tip: This place is not good for groups. Don’t go with more than three people.

Leif’s is a laid back trucking stop type of restaurant. Go there for the food, and leave with a smile. At first glance, the restaurant appears as a family home that was made into small restaurant, which is exactly what it is, but inside you will find some of the best food you have ever had, and they have the newspaper clippings to prove just that; being featured in the Suntimes and Tribune 3 times. The best items on the very small menu are the steak & eggs, and hamburgers, and both are of monstrous proportions. Even in this troubled economy you will find a good deal at Leif’s.

like twista? well, you might be able to see him eating his steak and eggs here! haha! with his platinum grillz on! this small diner offers yummy southern cooking without the hospitality. the grumpy asian lady that owns the place is hilarious and will not hesitate to kick you out if you are out of line. the prices are great for the amount of food she serves you. also try her 5 lbs hamburger! just kidding, it’s not 5 lbs but it’s huge. =D
