I used to always get the original Mana at J &J’s Fish. When I saw that they had their own location with additional flavors, I’m like yes! I got a chance to stop by today. According to the menu that I picked up at the restaurant, this is actually Mr. Allen’s Sweet Shop(The Jerk Spot) and also home of Banana Mana. It’s a small spot that is only there to serve its purpose of churning out good food so don’t look for aesthetics! I was served by a very nice gentleman(Mr. Allen?). I noticed in one of the reviews someone mentioned a restroom. When you walk in there’s the order window and a door next to it which opens into the kitchen. I was in and out but on my next visit I’ll have to inquire about the bathroom because there may be seating in the back as well. Who knows? I ordered a small tip-$ 6, an original Mana-$ 2.50(for Granny) and a banana walnut bread Mana-$ 2.50. Listen, I haven’t had rib tips from a restaurant that have tasted this good in a loooong time. There was nothing special about them. They were just seasoned well and suuuuper tender-very well made. The sauce was more like a semi glaze. I liked the cut as well. It was good. Only 3 of the tips made it home with me. A slice of bread and some sport peppers came with the tips. Shrugs. They also serve links, jerk chicken, a few sides like greens, mac & cheese and red beans & rice. I was there less than 10 minutes. I’m definitely going back for some tips.

They only serve one thing but they do it well – MANA! It’s between custard, ice cream, and pudding – served either chilled or frozen. Tucked away in Englewood, at 1022 ½ W 63rd, they have the best banana pudding I’ve ever had(just don’t call it Banana *pudding* around them). They’re always adding new flavors and are also expanding their distribution of original banana mana throughout the south side. You, however, can only get all of their wonderful flavors at their storefront. Reese’s Banana Mana is certainly a desert destination.
