I really dont like writing bad reviews. But these guys finally MADEMEDOIT. Its like everytime I try to come and eat here they just SCREWUP. Not like I didnt try to actually give them a shot. How the hell do you take my order and then tell me 20 minutes later youre OUT of lengua? I mean, I’ve been sitting there the whole time WAITING. That was on my LAST visit. This time I ordered two gorditas and you tried to give me 2 burritos. And one was de asada!!! I never said NOTONEWORD about asada!!! Im just tired. Only reason Im even here now is cause Im STARVING and I live right down the street. Im not even that picky but COMEON, guys!!!

It’s cheap, and fast to pick up after everything else is closed. They rarely have what’s on the menu available. Not the tastiest … If not that hungry and have other options I would pass

This place is a hidden lil gem. I was in town visiting from California and had a craving for Mexican food. Though the name of this place suggest that it’s a tamale place, it also has an extended menu consisting of tacos, quesadillas, tortas, burritos and a few other items. The place is really small and only has bar style seating facing the windows. It can get really crowded, but it’s well worth it. The ladies at the front were super friendly and helpful. I ordered a 2 tacos, one with chorizo and the other with chicharro. Both were really delicious and very similar to a street taco. I also had a tamal with cheese and pepper strips which was also good. I highly recommend this place and will be back.

First off: CASHONLY! Secondly, I have eaten at this place more than once so I feel like I can give a decent review. And lastly, it’s been a while since I did a review so this is who I picked to get back into Unilocaling. Anyway, the food itself is really good. I love the burritos and the tostadas. The place is at a gas station so the décor isn’t five-star. It’s a 24-hour mom-and-pop(or madre & padre in this case) restaurant that is no-frills but is delicious with their food. Sometimes they do run out of tamales(and other items but they are known for their tamales) because people buy them up so much that they seem to not be able to keep up with the demand. But that actually doesn’t bother me as much because I had a tamale from there one time that was dry and I felt like it had been an older one. So the fact that they run out is fine with me because it means the food is fresh. The place doesn’t look the cleanest but it makes up for it in taste. If this review was just on the taste of the food then it would be 5 stars but I am taking into account that sometimes they run out of food.

The tamales are great but the customer service is HORRIBLE! They won’t even let you place an order for pick up either. Doesn’t make any sense.

I do enjoy tamales whenever I want them, but you need to bring cash since they do not accept credit cards. Almost every time I go there I see people freaked out when they are told they don’t accept cards. It’s simple really, the establishment is family run for the most part and I wAs told they just want to cut out the middle man, which of course makes sense in every aspect. The rajas con queso is quite tasty with just a nice kick go it, or maybe you would like pollo verde tamales, whatever you decide– you really can’t go wrong. I have not read pay reviews only because I want my review to be fair and impartial, and although I see a few lower stars, I can’t understand why. I personally feel that they have quality as well as bite to them so it’s only obvious that with no wait for the weekend tamales, this is the place to get your fix during the week. Their champurado is also good so you may want to try that also. For the price, you really can’t go wrong and at least you know that here(unlike street vendors) you will get a better quality.

Do not be afraid to try this place because it looks like a dive. Tamales are great and cheap and they give you tons of guac for a fair price.

Drunk? Got two bucks and change? Then you can snag a couple tamales here 24⁄7. Not the cleanest joint and it’s hot inside, but they are quick. Theres not much to these babies as they are small with little filling, but they were fresh. About 6 stools and a small counter. I wouldn’t return, because I have access to better tamales, but I’m hungover and needed sustenance before a stop at Midway airport; typing this from the cell lot. Such Unilocal devotion! CASHONLY. IRS loves that. lol Gas station snacks that’ll do in a pinche, Puta. Ay! Annoying Gringa humor…

A dozen fresh hot tamales for $ 10 and they are open 24 hours. No waiting, you just pay and they bag them up and get out are on your way and their pepper and cheese tamales are the best.

Very small and crowded, pricey are okay, the tamales had nothing to them. They had a tiny piece of pepper in them and were very dry. I don’t like how you can’t see the kitchen in the back. My veggie burrito was fine, but smaller than what I would get any where else. They take cash only, all the time! Parking can be hard to find since this is also attached to a small strip along with a gas station.

It’s at a gas station … jeez!!! For a quick fix, because grandma’s tamales are gone, and ma is to tried to make a fresh batch; besides who makes tamales during the summer? … this is the place to be!!! Honestly, where do you think your favorite«Roach Coach» gets them from … the red, green, elote and rajas tamales are very good, period!!! THATISALL!

Pretty close to my mom’s house; we had family in town for the holidays and got lunch here. Torta, gorditas, and veggie burrito all so good. Our son, visiting from DC, couldn’t believe how much food we got for $ 24!

My regular tamale guy is on an extended vacation in Mexico so I have been exploring alternatives. I heard a lot about Manolo’s so I finally tried it. I guess I have been spoiled by my tamale guy because the tamales here seemed smaller and less generous with the fillings. But they were tasty and I would probably stop by again if I am in the area. They are right around the corner from Midway airport.

I rarely give a one star review. I’ve tried eating here a few times with zero success. How do you run a restaurant when everything on the menu is out of stock? On my most recent visit I again tried to order some of the delicious sounding dessert tamales. While previous visits resulted in no stock on dessert tamales this time I was lucky to find that had strawberry tamales available. To my dismay when I got them home and the family dug in to them all we had was dry lightly flavored corn meal. We ended up throwing them out without finishing any of them. Also on this most recent visit I was hopeful to get some chicken green sauce tamales and some beans and cheese tamales. They had neither. Really?!? The tamale store again is out of all the tamales I was planning on. I decided on an al pastor taco. The taco was very dry and the cilantro dark and wilted. Complete disappointment. Previously when I’ve stopped and they had no tamales I have gotten a burrito that would be considered marginal at best. On this visit I witnessed the front glass door tied all the way open by a rope, the screen door was only partly closed but was missing most of it screen, and plenty of flys, bees, and wasps flying throughout the seating/waiting area and in to the open kitchen. Not at all sanitary. Yuck. The woman who has helped me every time is not overly friendly and when I show surprise that they are out of the tamales I want she just scowls at me. Talk about customer service. You’re out of what I want(again and again) and you give me attitude. Pretty sad really.

I love Manolos green chicken tamales. The best tamale I’ve ever had in chicago. Their service is fast and great prices too. I can’t wait to try other items on the menu.

We used to stay at a hotel in Mexico that had multiple tamal stands at the end of the driveway, before you swing out onto the Mex 1. Those were good. These were better. Highlights: Bean and cheese tamal was off. the. chain. The beans taste like they were cooked from scratch, not just dumped out of cans. The pork(carne de puerco) with salsa rojo also excellent. Elote also had great flavor, but was more dry – definitely grab some salsa if you like your tamales with more sauce. Also, the tamales were less than a dollar each? whaaaaaat. They tasted so freaking good, they could charge three times that and I’d still go. My husband got an asada torta, also excellent. I may have eaten almost half of it, idk. Go go go. Go all the time.

Where have you people been getting your tamales from to give this place 4 and 5 stars. I have been here about 4 times. More out of need than because I wanted to come here. When you have a craving for tamales and this is the closest place around you go for it. Well, not anymore, I have learned my lesson. Even if I have to drive a little more or in worst case scenario, go for something different, not comming back here. And the god of tamales help me keep my word. Everytime I have been here, their tamales are dry, mostly spongy masa and very little meat. And again, I don’t know where you been getting your tamales but that is not the way it is supposed to be. Today, I wanted tamales and there I go. I noticed that they have chiles rellenos as well so decided to do a plate of chiles rellenos and tamales. When I ordered they informed me that ther chilles rellenos would take a long time because the cook was not there yet(2:30 pm and the cook is not there) and they were out of the 2 kinds of tamales that I wanted. So I just left, went back to work without food and in a bad mood provided by the bad customer service at Manolos. Manolo’s not again
