To say that in recent years this pizzeria has hit the skids is an understatement. It would seem that whoever runs this restaurant has no understanding of the concept of «If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!!!» The flavor of a pizza is the draw. My family and I moved into Albany Park in 1954 and we had ordered and ate in at Marie’s when it was a dark little neighborhood bar with a back room which held a few kitchen tables and chairs where a sublime pizza was served. Even after it was expanded and done up in ghastly décor, the pizza was still sublime. Thin, delicious crust with a flavorful sauce and oh, so flavorful sausage and ooey, gooey cheese. It was so good and we wouldn’t even TRY another store’s pizza. Now, sadly, Marie’s pizza is a flavorless blob of cheese, sauce and dull toppings. It finally struck me the other day when my Mom came home with a Marie’s pizza. I hoped against hope that they went back to the old recipe. I took a bite and was utterly disappointed. It was more of the tasteless stuff. Then it came to me like a thunderbolt!!! It had no fennel seed, not in the sauce or in the sausage. My pallette is not sophisticated nor am I a foodie, but it struck me so suddenly that there was no fennel seed. Is fennel seed that expensive that it would be summarily deleted from a great recipe? I don’t know if other corners have been cut in the recipe, but fennel seed was crucial to the excellent flavor this pizza once had. Never, ever again will that pizza cross my lips or those of my family. Good bye, Marie’s Pizza.

We had the a thin crust pepperoni and bacon. The sauce was sweet and tasty. The vibe was cooler than the other side of the pillow, as we were serenaded by a two piece jazz combo. Lush red booths and pizza on a cookie sheet, how can you go wrong.

This is a neighborhood place, it hasn’t changed in years, oh heck it hasn’t changed in decades. It’s the same pizza, it’s really thin crust, even their signature double dough is what the average pizza places single dough is. It may be the same, but it’s good, thin, a little spicy, cheesy with just the right amount of grease and toasty flavor. Best severed up with a pitcher of cold beer. However, they do have wine, mixed drinks they even serve up doubles if you’ve had a bad day and need to go that route. If you want to go fancy they have a full service liquor store attached with a good wine selection and you can pick a bottle from there. Booths are red vinyl and the mirrors have some kind of gold fleck on them, pizza’s are made in the window as well as the back kitchen. The doors which are all supposed to be automatic aren’t, they have had the same push/pull signs on them since I can remember, perhaps they were installed broken or not powered up, and they put the signs up, since then it’s worked, so seems fine. Same olé, same olé, same olé, it all works, it’s all fine.

Medium cheese and sausage very tasty, have been here many times and we enjoy the food — fries, salad, pizza. The service was good, not sure why so many negative reviews, Marie’s is Marie’s, since 1940 not much has changed and why should it? It’ s a great place after a Cubs game or just a visit to another time warp. We’ll be visiting again and again.

Only order from here if you enjoy your order getting messed up and them taking over an hour to get you the correct order. Now they took 30 minutes to «read» my order, and said they cant read it, so what did I order and they will have it here in 45 minutes. I said the order said it would be here in 25 minutes, and you took 30 minutes to read it and call me now? Forget it. They never gave me my credit from the last goofed up order. Their customer service is the worst.

The red vinyl seats and the great music on Sunday and Tuesday Summer nights are the only reason to set foot in this place. The food sucks, the drinks are terrible, the service is spotty, the lighting is awful and the woman who runs the place is very rude to paying customers

Solid thin crust pizza! I wouldn’t put it in my top tier with the likes of Calo, etc. but you could do much worse. For my money the sausage was a lot better than the pepperoni, but YMMV. Mozzarella sticks were a bit underwhelming, almost like right of the freezer, but again, I’ve had worse. Delivery was pretty quick, ~45 minutes and food arrived hot and in good shape. A quality choice for thin crust pizza if you’re in their delivery zone.

I came here with my family this evening. The service was awful! I can’t believe how rude the waitress was. She was frustrated because she wasn’t supposed to be assigned to our table but ended up having to serve us because the other waitress had to serve another party. She expressed her frustration several times. I understand she was frustrated but that was no reason to be rude with us. For a split second we thought this might be an Ed Debevics type of place where staff is intentionally rude to its customers. The food itself is just okay. The outer crust of the pizza was crispy but the center pieces were soggy. We ordered the fried basket as an appetizer and it was over fried. I didn’t try the fried jalapeño slices, but everyone else enjoyed them. I would never come back to Marie’s. There’s better options out there.

Ordered delivery on a Monday night and it took over an hour. We are 6 blocks away. I realize most places say it will take an hour but you usually have someone at your door in 40 minutes and they are a lot further away. Driver just dropped it off and said here you go. Thanks, did you get lost? Pizza was not even hot, again 6 blocks-one traffic light. It was warm at best. Will not order here anytime soon. There are too many other places that make a better pie and charge less.

This place was a little bit of a let down. After reading great reviews on Unilocal my father an I went here only to sit down to a unseasoned pizza with flavorless cheese and sub par sauce. Now one redeeming quality about Marie’s pizza is the crust, it is insanely good. Which makes the failure of all the other ingredients that much more disappointing. If you’re in the area and can order pizza, I would recommend some place else, it has a good vibe as well as a bar and live music, just dont order your friday night pizza from them.

My family has been going to Marie’s for years! It is like a walk back into time with GREAT pizza! Dell is our absolute favorite server, she really is what continues to bring us back again and again! If you want some great pizza, adult beverages and have it affordable on your pocket, this is just the BEST place! One of our favorites! Highly recommend!

Erm… well, we had a taste for a really good chicken caesar salad. This place had good reviews, so we gave them a shot. What a mistake. I thought, «Wow, for $ 12.25, this must be one hell of a salad!» But… nope. It’s a tiny little box with bits of iceberg lettuce, a few cherry tomatoes and some chintzy slices of chicken. To add insult to injury, they don’t even OFFER caesar dressing in their choices of dressings on GrubHub. For a caesar salad!!! We had to just choose«no dressing» and add our own caesar dressing from our fridge. This would be a fine salad for $ 6, MAYBE $ 7. Maybe we shouldn’t have ordered salads from a pizza place but… they just lost us as customers for sure.

Incredibly rude delivery driver! He gave us a lecture when our doorbell did not work! We rent, this is not our responsibility. Moreover it was working last week. I’m sorry, it’s winter, batteries die. I wish I could take back my tip since this driver was SO incredibly rude! I will never order from here again!

My family has been going here for over 50 years. I am 3rd generation as are the owners… I have never been so disappointed. First my dad came home with 2 pizzas not 3 he paid, the nonEnglish speaking pizza maker told him yeah 2 getting the impression there were 2 in one box. Not very bright on our end, but we called immediately and were told we would receive a refund for 1pizza. 4 days later we call and are told the same thing. Well, today the Manager yelled on the phone saying we were liners and had received 3 pizzas, then hung up on us… Really? The customer is always right and I am not going to lie.

I live across the street from Marie’s and it is a decent little place. It’s a very well known pizza joint and when we first moved into time neighborhood I was excited to try it out. It’s a very old place and they haven’t changed t since it opened in sure… it’s kinda cool actually. Our server was an older lady super nice and she had been working their for years which I can appreciate, service was great. Giving three stars because he food was just okay. Pizza was traditional thin crust it was good but I was not wowed like what I had read. We also got wings which were very small. It’s very basic. Not bad but not great. But I can appreciate the tradition they seem to keep.

So many people that visit Chicago go to The Bean at Millennium, Sear’s Tower, State Street, Michigan Avenue, etc. Where tourists SHOULD be is in the neighborhoods, at places like Marie’s. Mid-century is in vogue right now – Marie’s is stuck in a wonderful time warp. So many places, such as Biasetti’s on Irving Park remodeled… and soon after went out of business. We are so fortunate to have Marie’s, a place where we go and feel as though we are time-traveling. They service is sincere and attentive and friendly. The owner is so proud(and rightfully so) of her establishment. The pizza is great, the atmosphere is amazing, the holiday decorations can’t be beat. Sit at the bar, grab a booth, and listen to the jukebox or traveling musicians. And if you are looking for a great spot on New Year’s Eve for a group, I highly recommend Marie’s. THIS is Chicago.

The retro atmosphere and strolling trio is why we come here. The pizza is good but quite greasy. The last time I was in the owner loudly chastised a waitress in the bar/dining area during the dinner hour. Very rude and unprofessional on her part. I guess this comes from never having actually worked in the business, just inheriting it. But, the waitress good, said nothing and continued serving after having been yelled at. The owner’s boyfriend(who is just along for the ride methinks) is also someone who belittles the employees in front of the customers. This is a good way to lose business and I have noticed it has been waning. The father was not this way at all! Fun if the owner doesn’t come in!

I ordered delivery late on a Sunday. Delivery was on time. –Grilled chicken ceaser salad was blah… only had romaine, cherry tomatos and pieces of grilled chicken that needed more seasoning. –Toasted ravioli was good, but they only sent one small 2oz container of marinara for like 8 pieces. –4 bottles of water were ordered and I was called from restaurant saying they were out of water! WHATKINDOFRESTAURANTRUNSOUTOFWATER!!? And they didn’t even try to make up for it by sending me a soda or something. I will order from here again when it’s really late and I am really hungry. It’s only fair to add that I have ordered their pizza before and It’s good.

The greatest thing on Sunday, is Judy Roberts is playing! The other talent was delightful and personable! We were having a great time ! The food is Okay, and the staff was doing the best they could do under their circumstance. Management team is challenged .We were not the happiest of customers. It was my first time there and wanted to have a great time. The entertainment was great!!! Unfortunately I don’t think we will be back. Judy, we will follow anywhere but not ther l

Good, solid thin crust. We had the special which is sausage, mushroom, onion, green pepper. We got two versions actually. Apparently, there was some mix up and the first pizza left off the mushrooms. We had it half gone and the server stopped by to check and asked ‘Are there mushrooms on there?’ We hadn’t even noticed honestly but confirmed that indeed there were no mushrooms. She cheerfully announced that something got messed up and brought over another pizza(no charge) with the mushrooms. Soooooo, AWESOME service there! We didn’t even know we had a problem! LOL So, the two pizzas in comparison were a bit inconsistent in the crust. The first one — probably cooked a little less than the second — had a softer crust. The second one had a superior crispiness. The sausage is homemade w/fennel — I LOVE fennel! Also, they use fresh mushrooms which I’m also a fan of on pizza vs. the canned ones. In comparison to my fav thin crust, Rosati’s, Marie’s holds its own. I wasn’t really a big fan of the wandering musician thing — too loud I think. It was hard to carry on a conversation.
