I made the mistake of walking into this business while awaiting the local St. Patrick’s Day parade, only to discover they were closed. It looked open to me – full of people, door unlocked. I had always been curious about the place, and thought I’d check it out. I was taken aback by the demeanor of the woman who spoke to me: «Can I help you?» — looks friendly enough in print, but her tone made it clear we were not welcome. When I said we were just going to take a look around, she said«Well, it’s a hair salon. This is it.» I honestly wasn’t sure what type of business it was — a sign somewhere said«design from the waist up», so I thought maybe they would have jewelry or clothing. Other businesses in the area were open(and friendly!), so it did not seem unusual that this place might be open too, possibly even welcoming potential new clients. I declined her offer of a business card(she was out of them, anyway), which seemed inappropriate by that time. She certainly didn’t seem to be interested in any new business.

Went to McAvoy’s for the first time last week, and it won’t be the last time. From the moment I walked in until I walked out, the staff made me feel welcome. I went for a color and a haircut. Jenny and Julie really spent some time consulting with me about the correct color product for my hair(naturally curly and covering the grays). The color turned out great!!! I even liked the haircut(ever have a haircut where it takes about 2 weeks to grow out before you actually like it?!) Not this time. Thanks McAvoy’s…I will be back again! I will definitely recommend you to my friends and family.
