Reminds me of being a kid. My friends and I used to go here growing up and it still has the same charm as twenty years ago. Eggs and hashbrowns were delicious. Also great coffee, great styrofoam cups.

My experience was a a nightmare! I order a BLT well done bacon… after 20 minutes the food comes to my table and the bacon was rubbery. I took it up to the counter where Kim said«WHAT» I said the bacon is not well done let alone hardly cooked, can they put it back on the grill… she took my sandwich and threw it away saying«WHYDIDYOUTOUCHIT!!» because I wanted to check the bacon… she stared yelling at me! I was about to loose it on her but I thought no just let her rant and rave, I said what is your problem, I asked to make is well done, she said no, just leave! I said then give me my money back… I was shocked and blown away that a owner can act like that with a full restaurant. She walked away and had the buss boy give me back my money and I told him is she always like that and he said I cant say anything… I said I’m sorry for you that you have to work for a crazy lady he smiled.

Took a bike ride over here from Albany Park to run some errands and for a change of pace. Very tasty food at a reasonable price! Ordering at the counter first kinda threw us but this probably happens to all first-timers. The woman at the counter(Kim I assume?) was very nice and let me swap out hash browns for meat, which seems to be a problem at too many places but not here. Very pleased, and full :) would recommend and will do again very soon!

Love this place. Been coming here for years. Food is great and the price is right. Ms Kim recognizes me every time I walk in. Abraham is always on point with his food, it’s consistent, and I’ve never left unsatisfied. It’s definitely a neighborhood staple.

This place is amazing and I’m so glad it is a mainstay restaurant. Miss Kim is so lovely and takes care of us every time we come in. She remembers us every time and the exact details of our orders! On top of this excellent service, the food is amazing. Best gyro I’ve had – the meat is flavorful, the tzatziki sauce is perfect, and at generous portions for cheap prices! You must stop in.

Great spit in the west ridge area for breakfast or lunch. Took my grandma there for brunch, great service. The owner is a sweetheart and is old school in not only recommending foods but also seating you and even refilling coffee if needed. Its a cozy little diner but there food is always spot on. I suggest the eggs, hash browns and bacon or the French toast.

I ordered a Tuna sandwich to go. The place is nice inside. The lady was courteous. The sandwich was light and good.

One of the things that I have loved about residing in Rogers Park for almost the last year is that I have found some truly great little places. And, yes, Mike’s Place was a great find, boy, am I getting good at this or what? Mike’s Place is located on the corner of Western and Lunt and it’s not the biggest of places, upon entering I found maybe about 10 tables or so. And, for any of you that need lots of frills this may not be the place for you, because there are no menu’s, you simply go up to the counter and choose what you would like off the menu boards. For myself, this works just fine, I’ve always been a no frills needed type of girl, so I walked up to the counter and picked what I wanted. Lots of great Breakfast/Lunch Items that definitely won’t break anyone’s bank, and the smiling lady person behind the counter made it all a very smooth process, we ordered and a few minutes later our food was brought to our table. And, gotta say, Mike’s Place delivered some pretty great tasting Breakfast Food that easily could rival other restaurants with higher menu prices. There are certain things that make a place great, good food quality and even better customer service. And, honestly, Mike’s Place has that all covered, and then some! So, for the record, Mike’s Place is on the small side, but does have tables inside for dining in but my guess is they probably do a kick ass take-out business as well. So, if and when in West Rogers Park you should check out Mike’s Place. And, no, you won’t find linen table cloths or menu’s, but you’ll find good food and great service. And, in the end that’s what it all comes down to anyway. Mike’s Place, my kind of place, and you should make it one of yours too.

Typical diner breakfast. Nothing special. I would come back if I was really hungry on a Sunday morning and didn’t want to wait in line at a better place.

Being new to Rogers Park we are trying to discover all the great places… And this is one of them! Food is very yummy and you get a ton! Diner style, and inexpensive! The lady who works here is helpful and hilarious! You can tell she really cares about her customers. Gets busy and is small so you may have to wait… But it’s worth it!

My downstairs neighbor just introduced me to this Rogers Park gem. As other reviewers have said, Kim(who has been there for 30 years!) is lovely – friendly and smiling and welcoming. The décor isn’t anything special, but it’s clean and neat, and the fish in the corner tank are beautiful. I think the posted-only menu adds to the charm of the small-diner atmosphere. The food came out very quickly, even though they were decently busy. I had an omelette with cheddar, mushrooms, and spinach and delicious hash browns(BIG orders of both). My bill came to $ 10 and change, but if you order the breakfast specials, you can get better bargains. So happy to have discovered a new neighborhood breakfast spot! Definitely going to try the gyros and eggs next.

Spotted it while driving by with two hungry kids. Great selection! Family friendly, great staff, and the food was delicious. Kids had standard eggs, bacon, and pancakes which both devoured. My father had the gyro on pita and I had gyro with eggs. Both plates where more than we could eat but the food was fantastic! My family and I will definitely return.

Food is good but way too pricy. I can get the same breakfast special for 3.99 at cozy corner

Stumbled upon this place when going through caffeine withdrawal after dropping my kid off at a birthday party in Rogers Park. I’m pretty sure that this place is a converted fast food joint or ice cream parlor. Doesn’t really matter because this place is nice. Seemed to have a brisk phone in, pick up business. I enjoyed my coffee & breakfast in the quaintly designed dining area. Nothing fancy, just clean & floral patterned. Asian lady working the counter was sweet as can be.

Every time my bf and I go there for breakfast or lunch, we’re made to feel welcome and served promptly. The food is delicious, plentiful and reasonably priced. Don’t be fooled by the broken window out front — in the kitchen this little diner is getting everything right.

Best gyros in the city. Seriously. Way better than Pita Inn or many other establishments I’ve been to, including places where gyros are the mainstay… hey, a best-kept secret! The grill guy is a sweetheart and a really excellent cook, good at what he does… it’s rare and refreshing to go to a fast-food restaurant and have somebody really care about what’s being put out. He feeds the neighborhood, our hero, we’re lucky to have him! Other favorites here besides the gyros are the cheeseburger(nicely dressed!), steak taco and the spinach pie. I also recently tried the hash browns, they were delicious and old-school…all shaved and thin and crispy brown. Whenever I have gotten food to go, the service has been friendly and quick. Yeah, the décor is funky, but cheerful. Seems to be a police department pick as well. I am very, very fussy about diner fare, being a big fan of it done right, and this unassuming joint is my Rogers Park favorite. If you’re planning an afternoon at Indian Boundary, grab a sandwich! Not fine dining, but definitely dining that’s just fine.

Solid diner breakfast from Mike’s Place, we go about once per month, sometimes more often. As others have mentioned you order at the counter and pay(usually up front) and then Kim brings your food and drinks to the table. It can take a little time to read through the posted-only menu and Kim is waiting as you order, so try and make it fast. The décor is not much to look at, but I enjoy the fish tank in the corner and try and get the table in front of it. I almost always order gyros and eggs here. It’s a pretty awesome combination if you’ve never tried it, and I get the eggs over easy. It comes with hash browns, a piece of pita, some tzatziki, and the gyros and eggs. Once you bust into one of the eggs, you are going to be happy to have that egg yolk to eat your gyros with. It’s really decadent for about $ 8. The gyros itself is not all that special, but it’s not the frozen crap, it is cut from the loaf. Normally my wife has pancakes, which I’ve tried, and they’re decent. Apparently they make a weak cup of coffee according to my father, I don’t usually get coffee here. Either coke or milk. I can go until dinner after eating my go-to meal here. it’s wonderful to eat in the winter time. Kim is the sweetest person and she always has a smile on her face. It’s one of the few places that I enjoy reading something during the meal, and they usually have newspapers in a pile to the right of the counter. Sometimes they don’t, so I bring a magazine. The whole experience is very relaxing Sunday morning style. I don’t have any pictures but I’ll try and post some next time I go.

Look — it gets 5 stars because you can get a decent breakfast(the same size as any other breakfast in Chicago) for about $ 5 and sometimes less. Kim is awesome and her sense of humor is appreciated each time I am in. The ambiance isn’t bad. It’s a little café/diner — not upscale or fancy, but quaint. There are always some breakfast specials and nothing out of the ordinary. I have always been in here for breakfast and never lunch. It is my favorite breakfast spot in Rogers Park — not because there is anything special on the menu, but because it is good service and a good standard breakfast. If you want a cream cheese omelet with capers, this isn’t the place. Go somewhere else and spend 2 or 3 times as much. But, if you want a nice quiet place for breakfast and don’t want to travel outside Rogers Park, this is the place.
