So, to start off, for my friends who think all I do is slam places… this place was amazing!!! By far, one of the best Ramen places I have eaten at anywhere in the world. The staff was super friendly and the Ramen has spectacular. If I am ever in Chicago again… I’ll definitely be stopping back by.

Tiny space that gets packed. I’ve had the vegetarian soup probably a half dozen times, and continue to love it. The broth is rich and flavorful; the noodles are firm with a lot of body. Nothing better than Ramen Misoya on a chilly, damp day in Chicago. If you’re in the mood for good hot soup, this is the spot.

Had the spicy tonkatsu miso ramen. Well Executed but I felt the soup could have been thicker. Also was craving for asahi but only to find they don’t sell beer yet

We came here early before 6 pm and was able to get seated right the way. It was good that we did as there was a significant line when we left. We order their«gold» standard ramen. Be honest, they are just okay. A bit too salty for my taste and I experienced heavy after taste for the rest of the night. Nevertheless, my companion enjoyed it — and so did everyone else around me. Perhaps I am not a good ramen person?! I still think that the Ramen that I had in Japan are a bit lighter and more palatable.

Really, really disappointed with the ramen here. On the plus side, the location is convenient(no need to haul all the way out to the suburbs), the space is clean and modern and the portions are mighty. You’re going to pay a premium though — an average bowl is $ 12 – 14 without add ons. That said, most bowls come with a bunch of veggies — my tonkatsu version had fried onions, cabbage, mushrooms, nori as well as a few tablespoons of ground pork, half and egg and a slice of fish cake. All of that really just serves to try to cover up the fact that the broth tastes of nothing at all, really. Where is the creamy, porky goodness that comes from many hours of simmering? It was definitely missing at Misoya — though the noodles were pretty good. I added chicken Kara-Age at my servers recommendation(3 pcs $ 3) and thought it was pretty awful — it looked to have been fried a good amount of time before and just tossed in as there was congealed oil on the skin. Gross — I left 80% uneaten. Service was really nice — quick and friendly. Sadly, the ramen here wasn’t even as good as my «just ok» place at home.

The spicy tonkatsu ramen was pretty good and flavorful. Quite a lot in that bowl, enjoyed it. My friend didn’t like the chicken one as much though.

I have been actively avoiding Japanese ramen if I can help when eating out. Purely on the naïve belief no alleged ramen shop on U.S. soil would replicate the authentic soup base and flavors I savor in Japan. Not to mention, I’m abnormally critical about my ramen. Haven’t found any satisfactory ramen shops around West Loop or River North. Holy smokes. Quickly dispelled this misconception after Misoya. They serve quality noodles! Recommend the Silver ramen bowl for a fruity and natural taste. The bowl comes with three pieces of char siu and fried onions. The savory soup elicits euphoria, taking me back to the moment I sat slurping up my bowl of ramen in Shibuya. Misoya deserves a higher rating. Truly underrated. Will come back to try the Gold for a taste of a fuller body soup base.

Holy smokes this place is awesome! First let me preface that I’m a picky eater and tried this place on a whim. I was pleasantly surprised to find it very authentic and overall delicious. I had the fried chicken and spicy ramen which complemented each other quite well. You get two basic bowl options with possible add ins(al-la carte). I recommend the spicy version which isn’t that spicy over the regular option. If you’re near this hidden gem and are looking to be adventurous then I highly recommend.

I came here on a weekday for a late lunch and there was barely anyone inside. We were warmly greeted and the service was quick. I love the casual, no fuss vibe. Highlights for me were the chewy noodles, variety of crunchy toppings and the soft boiled egg. The broth was a good balance of rich savoriness. I wasn’t a huge fan of the cha-su, came out a bit dry and I’ve definitely had better but it wasn’t like the worst thing ever either. If I can satisfy my ramen cravings for $ 15 or less, then I’m a fan and repeat customer.

Great curry vegetarian ramen close to downtown. Easy to get to and service was very good. The ramen maybe lacked some veggies but also typical of the curry kind. Will come back to try the other vegetarian options

I was looking forward to checking out this place since it opened in the neighborhood and I love ramen. It always looks crowded when I walk by, but the Unilocal star rating didn’t confirm that. Finally got to have lunch here and unfortunately I was unimpressed. Good service and fast turnaround for lunch aside, the tonkatsu ramen that I ordered was a little on the too salty side and the ramen noodles itself were okay. There were a ton of woodear mushrooms and bamboo shoots but lacking a lot of the meat(ground pork and fish cakes). I didn’t find the broth to be that rich and flavorful(besides being a little too salty) and so I didn’t end up finishing my bowl. I’d like to try one of these fried chicken appetizers next time and maybe their new curry ramen.

I came here with a friend, and we were seated right away as the restaurant wasn’t too crowded.(We came around 6 and it did fill up after that). The server was attentive and made sure we knew about the new items on the menu(curry ramen and green onion topping). I ordered the spicy tonkatsu ramen with corn and green onion, and my friend ordered the gold ramen cha shu — the waitress explained that gold has a fuller body and more flavor than the silver option. We didn’t have to wait too long for our meal. The meal itself was delicious. My friend said that her broth was the best broth she had ever tasted on a ramen, and I thoroughly enjoyed mine as well. It was the right amount of spice, and they gave generous portions of everything. The only minor problem we had was that the waitress was pushing the green onion(as it’s new) and asked us if we wanted it on our meal and my friend didn’t realize it was $ 1.00 extra. This wasn’t a huge deal but I feel like she should have made sure that we knew it was an add on. All in all, I’ll definitely be back.

Ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and side of Chicken kara-age. Tonkatsu broth was a bit too salty for my taste but the bowl was pretty loaded with vegetables on top which I liked. I was thirsty by the end of the meal though. Chicken kara-age had good flavor but one of the pieces came white and looked like it had been breaded differently than the others. Good taste and texture in terms of juicey-ness though! Not the best Ramen I’ve ever had but served its purpose… but for the price point of $ 10-$ 15 a bowl I do not think is worth the try. Not familiar with Chicago but I’m guessing there might be some better locations further out. Small location so not great if you are a large group. Service was fast and I was able to get in and out for a quick lunch which was nice.

Having been to the Mount Prospect location before, I had similar expectations at this newer location in downtown Chicago. Luckily, my group of friends were able to avoid the massive crowd that came after us on a Sunday afternoon. The five of us were seated in a little corner, a little crowded, but it was understandable. The first thing I noticed when I opened up the menu were the prices. All the items on the menu seemed to be a few dollars more than the Mt. Prospect location. I also noticed that there were many differences in ramen selections as well, which led me to realize that these two locations were not alike at all. I decided to go for the gold fried shrimp ramen with a topping of corn. My friend warned me that the gold broth was thicker and heavier than the silver, but I opted to try it anyways. The broth was salty and thick, but not overbearingly greasy at all. The noodles were chewy and overall it was very tasty and filling as well. The ramen arrived very quickly to our table as well, which was a plus. Service was great and the servers were very friendly and nice. When we were leaving, they also offered us each 5% off coupons, which was a nice gesture. Personally, I prefer the Mt. Prospect location over the one in downtown, but I’m still glad I have a place to go for my ramen cravings in the city.

I don’t think I liked this quite as well as what I had in Mount Prospect, but I do still really like it. I ended up ordering the Tokyo style, with some extra corn and cha-shu pork. Very good, rich broth — I purposely didn’t order the spicy this time, but I would next time, I like a little heat in the ramen. The pork was not the most tender slice, but it was a nice thick portion, and had great grill flavor. And I love corn kernels in ramen, the crisp texture in the broth is excellent. I’ve not had the kara-age at either location, but I need to try it one of these days and see how it compares to what I’ve had in Japan — if it’s good, it’s to die for. In any case — this is a closer ramen destination to where I stay downtown than Slurping Turtle, and I want to say it’s a little bit better. It’s not High Five in terms of insanely rich pork broth flavor, but it’s still very good, easier to get in to, and open on Mondays.

I’m pretty conflicted because I was expecting to like this location just as much as I like the one in Mt. Prospect. I’ve tried this location twice since I live so close by but I just can’t give it more than a 3. Things I like: the ramen noodles are pretty darn good. They are chewy, thick and just springy enough. Also like their soft-boiled egg, bamboo shoots, and cha-shu(though I prefer the more classic ramen pork meat) Things I don’t like: One of my pet peeves is ground pork in ramen. I just hate that! I’m also not a huge fan of their broths. I’ve tried the gold, normal, and tonkatsu and out of the three, the tonkatsu is the one I like the most but I still don’t absolutely love it. I think it’s missing that thick, creamy, fatty texture. All these broths are pretty salty and quite heavy for me unfortunately. There’s less of a wait if you go after 7:30 or 8ish at night. Staff is quite friendly and efficient.

Broth, service, and noodles were unbelievable. Chashu was sub par. Overall, arguably the best ramen in the city, definitely the best broth. (Review for Golden Miso Ramen)

Originally 4 stars, but after my last visit it’s dropping down to 3. Misoya is a nice addition to Streeterville, an area which already lacks solid Asian choices, let alone ramen. Checked it out for dinner the other day, and tried out both the Miso Ramen and the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen. Both were solid choices, though I think I preferred the Tonkotsu simply for it’s greater depth of pork flavor. My egg was perfectly soft-boiled, though that didn’t hold true for all of my friends’, so consistency may be an issue on that front. Nonetheless, the noodles, broth, and meat were quite good throughout. I came back again with a different group a few days later, and turns out consistency was an issue; this time the broth was much saltier and, while I am generally ok with getting hypertension, I can’t say the same for everyone. They just opened, so if you want to skip the lines try coming early for dinner(5pm was a good time). Worth a try especially if you’re already in the area. Being walking distance from my apartment is always a plus as well.

So I’ve been hearing about this ramen craze and thought, well, it is really cold. Maybe it’s a sign that I should finally try it out. So on a Thursday night around 7pm I met up a girlfriend, and as an avid Unilocaler – I failed to do my assignment and was confused on where this place was and what the outside looked like – if I had looked, there would have been no problem on locating the place. What was confusing was how we had to put our name on a list outside the restaurant-there are two doors to get in and then a waiting area that can literally fit 6 people max. I get it, were downtown Chicago and there isn’t much room for such ramen shop – but man oh man-this place needs to expand. It was an unforgettable experience. My gf mentioned this was the best she has had and many of the customers there were raving about it as well. The service was nice and quick – as this is their concept setting up wooden booths(so we don’t get too comfy) and smaller venue for in-out service. Only downfall is that I drove downtown to this location where it was $ 4 an hour with a two hour max time limit. Next time I’ll be taking the public trans!

I was gonna cook up some tots n eggs at home but then remembered this opened recently just down the block. Walked over on this foggy, drizzly and generally dank day and there were people waiting in the little vestibule *and* outside! There is a sign up sheet just inside said vestibule to get yourself in the queue. So it’s just me and I scored a seat at the bar and reviewed the menu briefly. Got gold ramen cha shu(more body, it says, than silver, which has a clearer broth and is called«fruty» [sic] on the menu). I guess my $ 15.70 option is pricy owing to the 3 pieces of pork cha shu on top. It took a darn long time to get my ramen but it was pretty tasty. The broth was good, not too salty, except maybe towards the bottom. The best tasting part was the ground spicy meat(pork?) in it. Noodles were firm and didn’t cloud up the broth. The pork pieces were pretty fatty and not the best tasting I’ve ever had. They had an uncooked pork-out-of-the-fridge twang to em. Sprouts and bamboo added crunch and some flavor. I added some fine ground white pepper to spice things up a bit. A matriarchal mama-san hustles around the place and is in her element. Other servers were friendly and even knew some Japanese. They clearly took pride in their spot. I’ll give the Ramen-Nod to Oiistar and Takeya though. And pretty much any place in Asia where ramen is not such a fad like it is here. Esp. that awesome place in Hong Kong airport with some bomb-ace ramen!
