I’ve passed by Ray’s Island Grill a few times and finally decided to stop in and give them a try. I ordered the jerk catfish lunch. I’m not sure what it is lately with these cuts on the catfish steaks, but they’re thin compared to what I’m accustomed to at Ja Grill, Jerk Villa and when Garifuna Flava used to carry catfish on there menu. Regardless, it comes with three pieces, red beans & rice, cabbages and plantains for $ 8.00. The one thing I didn’t particularly care for was the cabbage because it lacked flavor, but everything else was exceptional. It was well worth the price and I’m glad I decided to visit. I’ll definitely be dropping in more often and recommend them to others.

I saw this spot a few times before so I decided to give it a try today. They need some assistance with the décor; it’s dated, not much $$ spent. The order taker had a thick accent, not the friendliest, but not rude. The music station was great. They offer daily specials unlike some of their competitors. I looked online for menu but no luck. It only took 15 mins for my jerk chicken dinner. I carried it home. The chicken wasn’t that spicy which is good & bad, not all of us can handle some of those jerk spices. The rice was ok, now that needed more umph. The cabbage was dry, I’m not impressed. The single plantain was cooked well done, not juicy like the other spots I visit. The jerk sauce was ok, not too spicy, but decent. This spot is one of those u go to when u don’t feel like traveling to your usual spot.

Good food! Good music! Good prices! The guy on the truck is always friendly… just wish the young lady at the location was just as nice. Try the jerk tacos… You won’t be disappointed!

Wow! I finally ventured past Gurifuna Flava to check out Ray’s Island Grill and I am soooo glad I did! Although this is a take out only spot, you have to take food this good home so that you can black out into your food coma after eating. I ordered the Jerk Catfish with a sample of Jerk Wings to sample. The fish and chicken was so well seasoned [not salty at all] I’m sure that they marinated it overnight. With the dinner came rice and peas [excellent and tender, not dry like they’ve been on a steam table all day], streamed cabbage, and sweet plantain. Absolutely fabulous! I am a customer for life! Not only is this place close to my home, they are open 7 days a week AND they have Jerk Turkey Wings!!! Those who don’t know better check this place out! I will post pictures of their menu soon.

So glad I found this spot! I’ve been searching for a long time for jerk chicken in my neighborhood without having to travel to the other side of town. The food was good, the portions were large, and I have enough to take to lunch tomorrow. The prices were normal for jerk restaurants, so no biggie. I had a chicken dinner with rice and beans, and candied yams. The yams were a little under cooked, but I still ate it! I’ll be back!
