Great teacher, great location, great ambience, great rates! I began lessons with Richard in Summer 09 and have had a very enjoyable experience. I had just relocated to Chicago and wanted to dust off what remained of my childhood skills. We worked out a weekly schedule and, with my job in the Loop, I am able to slip out for a nice break during my workday. Richard is very open to your own tastes in music and tries to find pieces that are challenging but still within grasp. He’s very flexible with scheduling and understands the chaotic priorities of working adults. In every session, he demonstrates the piece several times, so that you have a strong sense of what you are working toward. At his suggestion, I have sampled classical, pop, jazz, movie/TV/Broadway songs, sight-reading, chord play, etc. and I look forward to my lesson every week. Richard is a highly skilled musician and he makes it very easy for adults to learn. It is wonderful to talk about pieces with your teacher with no pressure, no fear, no scolding, etc. You practice, you don’t practice — Richard works it out with you. So much better than the old days ;-D He is also located in the wonderful, historic Fine Arts Building on S. Michigan which means you take your lessons in this charming, movie-set-like environment. Too fun! If you ever thought about playing or thought about going back to something that you remember enjoying as a kid, I highly recommend taking lessons from Richard.

I can’t believe there aren’t more reviews of this guy up in here! About 4 years ago, I decided to get my hubby some piano lessons. He’s been wanting to play since he was a little boy. But he was shy about starting late and wanted to make sure he got a teacher who worked with adults. I asked around and learned about Richard. Everyone said he worked magic on adults, who tend to have more difficulty learning this new skill. My husband was so happy with his lessons and immediately got hooked! He’s spoken of Richard’s talent(often remarking, while we’re listening to classical music, how his teacher can play with the best of them) and Richard’s ability to make it easy to learn. My husband continues to take weekly lessons and thinks of this time as his kind of «happy place.» This was one of the best ideas I’ve ever had for a present! And I’m really grateful to Richard for allowing me to enjoy sweet moments when I hear piano playing in my house courtesy of my now-super talented husband.
