First let me say that the food is good. This review is for the service. My friend and I dined there this evening. It is a Sunday. They close at 10. We walked in at 9 for a quick bite. Knowing full well what time they close and what time we were to leave. There were other diners. We ordered quickly. Our food arrived around 915. At which time the server asked if we needed anything else because last call would be «sometime soon». We said we didn’t. We weren’t drinking BTW… At 930 he came back to say it was really last call. At 940 he took our soy sauce and any things we might need that might prolong our stay, should we eat not quickly enough. At 942 he brought our check while we were still eating, but yes almost done. At 945 we paid and he cleared our plates. And glasses. By 950 we were gone. Apparently way to slowly for him. They close at 10. Did I mention that. Where I work that means when the customer is finished, not shoved out the door… I won’t be back.

Found this place because it is close to Schuba’s, and it was amazing!!! Love great sushi(and great service) and this place has both. I recommend the fire roll(yum!) but everything was really top notch. I just moved to Chicago and this is some of the best sushi I’ve had here so far. Also, our waitress was hilarious. She got cut right after getting us our drinks so she introduced us to our new waiter and was so funny about it! We were all laughing and having a great time and she even brought by free edamame for to make up for switching servers on us. Our water glasses were always full and now our bellies are too!

Great place for sushi and some drinks ! I went here with a friend for the first time a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed myself. We shared a seaweed salad, lettuce wraps, and a California roll– all were great. We also dabbled with a few dirty martinis and Saki bombs, we definitely left there feeling good ! My friend likes her martinis«‘extra dirty» so our waitress have her a side cup of olive juice to add to her drink !

Unilocal won’t let me out of this screen without writing down some details. Good food. Not great service. Maybe the waitress had an off night, maybe she was dealing with something in her life, maybe she doesn’t like her job, maybe she was tired, maybe she works a lot or isn’t thrilled with her life. Not sure but sending her good vibes and hope she finds some smiles today that eluded her yesterday.

This is our favorite sushi place in the city, hands down. I am a picky sushi eater and my husband is an adventurous sushi eater and many menus do not make us both happy. EXCEPTFORRISE! This place is great. I’mma say it — better than Butterfly. We love the pan fried gyoza. We love the Niku Maki. We love the spicy tuna. Volcano roll? love it. There are so many we haven’t tried, but what we have tried has all been great. The place is big, so there is rarely a wait for a table. The staff is very cool — they never get bossy with me for subbing things or asking if they can cut it smaller. We recently moved to Oak Park and Rise is the one regret my husband harbors. He yearns for it.

I wanted to really like this place so badly since I live a block away. The convenience would be outstanding. But it’s simply never impressed me. There has never been anything wrong or bad when I’ve went, it’s just the sushi is nothing more than average for me and simply not good enough for me to make this my go-to sushi place in the neighborhood.

We were driving around looking for a sushi spot, and it just so happened to have a parking spot available right in front so we decided to try it. Our waiter was really nice, especially with all my «unique» requests since I’m a picky non-seafood eating diner at a sushi place. I got their veggie sushi and the Yaki Udon. Both were really good as well as well priced. I had plenty of left over for the next day. My bf for their dragon roll and one of their new signature ones. He really enjoyed both and was stuffed.

Rise Sushi has to be the best in all of Chicago! There’s always something new to try and you know you will be getting some delicious. Staff is extremely polite and always checking in on you. Water glass is never half-empty but half-full. If you are around the Lakeview area — Rise should be a stop on your list. They have more then just great sushi too; tasty noodle dishes as well as delicious cocktails. Great night out spot too.

This is hands down the best sushi I’ve had in Chicago. Drinks are also dank AF. Only downfall is that it’s not BYOB. But you can always order a Doc P and pour in some flava under the table.

Let me start off this review by mentioning that I had a go-to sushi place by me in River North that I went to at least once a week — Sushi Taiyo. It closed back in February, and it was one of the saddest days of my life when I found out. Someone on Unilocal messaged me to let me know that he also loved Sushi Taiyo and figured out that the company that ran Sushi Taiyo also ran Rise, and he said the menus were pretty much the same. The other day, I tried to order delivery from Rise but received a call that I was out of their delivery range. You can only imagine the devastation I felt when I heard this news. Yesterday, I was up by Southport waiting to get my hair cut, and I saw Rise in the distance. It was fate — we were meant to be together. I had some time to kill, so I went in for dinner and sat at the bar. The bartender was such a peach — I really enjoyed his energy. Anyway, about the food, it was everything I thought it would be — DELICIOUS. Best spicy tuna roll I have ever had, and the salmon sashimi I got was super fresh. I didn’t have a chance to order the salmon rangoon which was one of my favorite appetizers at Sushi Taiyo, but I am sure it rocks along with everything else on the menu. I definitely think this place is the , but I took off one star because they don’t deliver to my ‘hood. Whomp whomp. Still love this place though.

I frequently pass by this restaurant when I’m in the neighborhood and finally got the chance to check it out. Sadly, it was only ok. Service was great and they were attentive with my water glass, but the sushi was ok. I ordered the spicy scallop handroll, scallop nigiri, razor clam nigiri, tuna sashimi and ika sashimi. I’ve had fresher sushi and better rice elsewhere and this place just fell short. It’s always disappointing when you want good sushi and don’t get it.

I really enjoy a restaurant with good food, good vibes and good ambiance. This is a little gem in the southport corridor in Chicago. It’s a great neighborhood restaurant. The sushi here is excellent and reasonably priced. The ambiance is very chill and laid back and the service is great. They are good at making recommendations if you have questions or need a suggestion. You can tell they use the freshest ingredients.

Had a wonderful experience at Rise. The sushi is delicious and very affordable for a Chicago sushi place. I recommend the shrimp tempura and California rolls. We didn’t have to wait at all for a table for four on a Friday night. If it was cooler, we would have opted for the outdoor seating.

The best thing not on the menu… a Salmon Skin Hand Roll. Most people don’t know about this amazingly flavorful hand roll that you can probably get at most sushi restaurants. Order it, and be completely satisfied. Ming(Sushi Chef and Owner) makes it the right way. On the plate… Freshwater Eel, Uni(Sea Urchin) with a quail egg yolk, Salmon Roe, Toro Tuna, Salmon, Yellow Tail, and a Ginza Roll.

I’ve been to Rise Sushi & Sake Lounge multiple times and have no complaints what so ever. The service is always good and the sushi is always delicious with a capital D! I’ve never tasted the drinks or any of their non-sushi dishes so I can’t speak to those, but I can say every roll I have had here has been fresh, tasty and satisfying to the taste buds. I recommend you give Rise Sushi & Sake Lounge a try. My favorite rolls: *Kobe-Hito *Yuzo Maki *Pink Sakura Maki *Hawaii Maki *Spicy Tuna

I have gotten sushi from here a few times for takeout and every time it has been a-ok. Not great, not bad, just a-ok. We’ve tried a variety of rolls from the basics such as The Bagel Roll(what we back east would call the Philly Roll) with salmon and cream cheese all the way up to the fancy tolls like Soft Shell Crab Tempura and Dragon Rolls. I guess the thing is, each roll tastes pretty much the same to me. I have had my fair share of sushi but I just find the sushi here, while good, doesn’t have the same flavor depth as say Ukai over on the 1000 block of Belmont. Given it’s only a 5 – 10 minute walk depending on where you live, it may be worth the trip to head over there instead of going to Rise. Admittedly, being located next to the Southport Brown Line isn’t necessarily the worst thing and being neighbors with Galleria Liquors makes for an easy meal on the way home from work. But at the end of the day, if sushi is what you crave, and you’re looking for close or convenient, Rise is not a bad option.

Amazing location, great service, but food is not the best. We started with miso soup and chicken dumplings. Miso soup for $ 4 is so so– not the best but not the worst. The dumplings were really good pan fried but I did wish they had a pork option. We ordered 4 rolls– California, shrimp tempura, pink Sakura maki, & shiitake mushroom roll. None tasted as good as I expected, all were just mediocre at best and the presentation was the worst I’ve ever seen. Rolls were sloppily rolled and honestly didn’t even look appealing. I would come back because of the good location and nice service but maybe I won’t order sushi next time.

Overall, I really like Rise. I like the ambiance, the location, the quietness, the cocktails & the dishes here. Entrees are always great, and I have never been disappointed in their sushi rolls. I don’t like how expensive it is, but for a nicer dinner out(rather than going to one of the bars on Southport, etc.) Rise is a solid choice in the neighborhood. We’ve always had good service here & it’s just a more relaxing vibe than some of the BYOB sushi places that I normally go to.
