Our family’s primary care physician for some time now. Offers options and listens to your concerns. Candidly answers questions, even those topics perhaps not technically medical, but related to your overall health (nutrition, diet, etc.) Monica Joyce, as well as his medical and administrative support team are friendly and accessible.

I love my Dr. Sobel and the nurse or the Phlebotomists she is the best. I like dietitian Monica Joyce. Medical staff is great the front desk on the other hand I don’t know about them.
A few weeks ago I had gone in there knowing i made an appointment to get my flu shot. I called on 10÷27÷14 recorded I called on my phone that I called the office to make an appointment only to get a flu shot. I show up 11÷07÷14 on time and the front desk lady tells me she doesn’t have my down on the schedule I was so upset. However, the nurse who takes my blood for me saw me in the waiting room asked why I was there. I told her she said nobody told her i was waiting for just the flu shot. She apologized and gave me the flu shot pretty fast. I felt happier but still it made my husband want to change Doctors because of it. The whole family was with me that day. We waited entire 30 minutes for me to get a flu shot, crazy day.

I really appreciate Dr.Sobel. Thumbs up. Yes his office gets busy and there can be a wait. But I always feel like he treats me as a person and not just as an insurance payment (which has been my experience with other drs). He gives me the right amount of lecture to help keep me on track. Monica is also great. She also knows me as a person and is very knowledgeable. However she is always super busy. It would be good if her schedule were more reasonable so she did not always seem so hurried.

Dr. Sobel was unable to diagnose my Hashimotos.
He told me to «wait and see» and did not put me on thyroid hormone replacement after he reviewed my health in depth. I had already been diagnosed and have elevated antibodies. I’ve been symptomatic all my life with classic low thyroid, and
I explained all of my symptoms in detail associated with hypothyroidism. I am in menopause and not being on hormone replacement would only further damage and cause havoc on my health.
I went to an expert thereafter who did not hesitate to put me on hormone replacement under the correct diagnosis-​Hashimotos.
Nice man, but the initial appointment was a waste of my time.

Dr. Sobel is fantastic. As many others here have pointed out, he really takes the time to talk to you about your issues instead of treating you like a number. Before I started seeing him, I was sick and unable to get pregnant for 6 years and went through 3 endocrinologists who all pretty much ignored me because my symptoms were mysterious and apparently not worth the trouble to figure out. Dr. Sobel took the time to think through my situation and discuss it with me personally over the phone… which ultimately lead to a cure. Thanks to him, I have my health back and a beautiful 3-​month-​old baby girl.

I went to Dr Robert Sobel for the first time last month. Just moving to Chicago I was eager to have a doctor locally who could help me manage my diabetes. They got me in the office and everyone was very nice! Didn’t have to wait too long either — a rarity at doctors offices! Dr Sobel took his time while meeting with me. Explained many things to me and was open to listening about my concerns. Thankfully my labs came back great and I’ll be happy to return for my next check up in 3 months. :)

Dr. Sobel and Monica are amazing! Very knowledgable about metabolism and diabetes. Dr. Sobel is able to connect easily with first time patients and does a great job of educating his patients about the disease not just the symptoms. Dr. Sobel is very attentive, allows for plenty of questions, personally calls back and doesn’t rush you off the phone. I loved receiving a follow up letter and lab results which helped a lot so I could bring papers to other doctors that I see and keep them up to date. All other health providers have remarked that Dr. Sobel is treating my diabetes well and I have very little complications.
Monica, the office nutritionist and diabetes educator is just as fabulous. Monica taught me how to test my blood glucose, how to portion meals and also is just as available for questions and motivation with my treatment.
Others have made comments about rude front office staff and I found that to be very untrue. Very professional and helpful staff and I got an appointment the next day after calling. Appointments are on-​time. I’m very happy that I was referred to Dr. Sobel and will recommend him to all diabetic friends.

Ive seen my share of Doctors for something or another in my lifetime. When my primary Dr noticed my thyroid out of whack, he referred me to Dr Sobel. I was pleasantly surprised by Dr Sobel’s thoroughness and patience. Unlike other Doctors where you wait in the lobby for an hour and then have the Dr spend 5 minutes with you and make you feel like a number, Dr Sobel spends the time with you to explain things in its entirety and educates you on your problem rather than writing a script and scooting you out the door. Big thumbs up from me.

Doctor Sobel is an excellent endo. He treats the whole body as others have mentioned and he is never too busy to discuss a concern.

Dr. Robert Sobel is an amazing physician. He actually spends time with you. He really is interested in my overall well being and cares about my health. He is down to earth, extremely knowledgeable and intelligent, always up on the latest information and has a sense of humor. He’s been my primary care physician for probably close to 12 years now and he’s also my endocrinologist (I am hypothyroid). He’s had staff issues in the past but he makes up for all of it. I love him!

Dr Robert is wonderful. He is kind and generous with his time, he is non-​judgemental (which is key in a physician — especially an endocrinologist!) He is thorough, and thoughtful with a keen diagnostic mind. He treats the whole person not just the symptoms of disease and he has been my primary care physician for almost 10 years. Dr Robert, is cool — and funny, and returns calls and emails promptly. He sends lab results even after going over them with you on the phone in minute detail. He is smart as hell — and is always aware of current research and newest best practices. He is innovative without being a ‘maverick risk taker’ and intuitive in his treatment. He is a partner in my care — not the director of it. I value that tremendously — most physicians like to be in charge, and Dr. Robert knows that I’m the one in charge of my body and he’s just a very knowledgeable consultant. I adore this man. His office staff is warm, and efficient — good on the phone and in person. I like his nurses too — excellent phlebotomy skills. Not at all a fan of his diabetic clinician Monica — she is like a diabetes Nazi — and I refuse to see her. But clearly that’s just me — and she definitely has the skill set to help a diabetic learn to be «compliant in their treatment.»

My sister, brother in law and I have been patient’s of Dr. Robert Sobel for years and we all love him!
When I call with questions, he always calls me back personally. He squeezes me in for an appointment when I am sick. He sends a follow up letter, with labs after each appointment. The office furniture could use some updating, but they always have great magazines to read while you wait. They always run on time!!!

I’ve been to Dr Pick (within Sobel’s practice) a few times and while he seems compassionate and well informed his staff is HORRIBLE! They are so rude on the phone and in person. It seems like all the Nurses and Desk people have a terrible attitude — they treat you as if you are nothing but a nuisance. Also — I picked this practice because they were listed in my Cigna PPO website. However — the claim went through as «out of network» — when I called Cigna they told me that the Tax ID code that the office used when filing the claim is not in thier system. MaryAnne is the billing person at Sobel and she was so rude and of no help whatsoever. Even Cigna has tried to help by calling her and letting her know the issue — MaryAnne insists that they are not in Cigna’s PPO but Cigna has Dr Picks Tax ID in their system and would process the claim if MaryAnne would submit it properly. What a nighmare. I’m switching to another pratice that has it’s act together and actually seems to care about the patients.

I liked these folks well enough years ago when I saw them. Trouble is only that they didn’t really do anything for me, and told me everything is fine. When I went to the U/​C for extensive tests a year or two later, they found small cracks in my «fine“ness, which I appreciated. I ended up wondering how different the U/​C tests are from whatever the Sobel practice does; and I wished then they’d be the same, only because their office is more convenient to me than Hyde Park.
I’m going to see this team again soon, and am bothered by how long a wait it is to see anyone, but I’ll re-​post if my opinion changes.

I have been seeing the team here for 6 years.
I have been Type 1 Diabetic since I was 9. Once I moved to Chicago, I was so glad to find the team here.
Dr Robert is so great. So many doctors I have seen in the past treat the disease, chastise the patient, and get little result. Dr Robert treats the whole person. AMAZING.
The lab is in his office. Everything is done right away.
He personally writes follow-​up notes a week or two after your visit. WHO DOES THIS ANYMORE??? Amazing.
His Diabetes Educator/​Nutritionist/​GURU Monica is the best. I love her and would follow her anywhere. She is direct, honest, and insighful.
I give it a 4 because the front desk people can be rough. THe lady who worked here for a long time retired and the new people just aren’t her.
