This place is epic! Best sushi on Chicago by far and BYOB! The secret garden, midnight sundae, crunchy spicy tuna are all unreal.

I’ll start by saying I used to order from Seadog very often(at least monthly for the past 4 years), and my last two experiences have forced me to take them off my fav sushi spot list for good. I sometimes dine in, but I typically order online for pickup or delivery through their website and have earned many loyalty points due to my high number of orders. With my past few orders, however, service has been sub par, usually arriving well after the promised delivery time. This most recent time(today), I ordered the same way I have for 3+ years. I received an email confirmation that said my food would arrive at 7:30, which would be one hour after I placed the order(normal). At 7:50 when my sushi was nowhere in sight, I called the restaurant to inquire. The woman who answered said she didn’t see my order because«it was on her phone» and she’s sorry, but it will be another 30 minutes now if I want the food. The old Seadog that I know used to deliver my food well within the noted time frame, and usually much faster than even expected. However, today, when I said I’d rather just cancel the order since I didn’t want to wait ANOTHER30 minutes(which would prob end up being even longer), the woman simply said, «Okay, sorry,» and hung up the phone. Any restaurant that wants to keep its loyal customers would have handled the situation differently. See ya later, Seadog.

It is very tough to write this update, but I have to admit – my meal for Mother’s Day fell far from the tree. After my last five-star visit two years ago, almost everything we tried was a complete miss. The positives here: patio, prices, the spicy miso soup, BYOB. The negatives: gyoza(skip it), veggie tempura(strangely tasteless, with very small fried items), the Seadog Tower and the Little Sea Monster signature rolls just didn’t register, and the spicy tuna roll was only OK. I have been going to Yuzu a bit too much which is why I wanted to try something different… that was a mistake!

Not too impressed. Ordered the garden roll and it was great, however the sashimi wasn’t impressive at all. Although it look good on the picture but the fish was terrible… it was watery as if frozen. At $ 27 i regret ordering it :( Tip: order the rolls not sashimi that’s how they keep the price low

Now that we live in the area, my fiancé and I have become obsessed with Seadog! We’ve dined in a few times, but started getting delivery in the winter. This is the best sushi delivery we have ever had! It’s always fresh and they give awesome cuts of fish for sashimi and chirashi. The fatty tuna is our favorite and melts in your mouth. Maki rolls are always perfect, too. We’ve ordered from places that skimp on fish or make messy rolls. We can always count on Seadog for awesome sushi on a night in!

Awesome place with fresh sushi and BYOB opportunities for those wine lovers. Try the free app with the Unilocal app. Great menu and service. Good variety of rolls and sashimi. We enjoyed the dragon roll, spicy tuna and more.

I came for a quick, quiet lunch by myself to finally try it out and I was expecting more. I ordered the midnight sundae maki roll per the server’s recommendation. It was just okay and I wouldn’t order it again. My Unilocal check in got me a free order of the tempura sweet potato which was actually quite good. Whatever that dip was was tasty. They have a list of specials sitting at every table but they were outdated. I asked about a few things and it was either no longer offered or the price was higher than listed or only available during dinner. None of those *fine print details were in writing so that was annoying. For example, the roll I ordered isn’t on the website as I just checked, but it was on one of the menus in the restaurant and on the board of recommendations. Also, there’s a 10% off your bill special listed on one of the things on the table so long as you don’t split the check and pay cash. Correction: I THOUGHT I was able to use that to save a whopping $ 1.50… but after I looked at the picture I took of it… I realize I took the picture because I wasn’t allowed to use that either!!! Sheesh… that might have been one of the«dinner only» specials that wasn’t properly listed. Anyway, my experience was fine but I no longer feel like I was missing out.

Ok so this place was pretty good! We had a reservation for 8:30. Got there table was not ready yet we waited about ten minutes but that’s ok. We were seated at our two top shoulder to shoulder with other people on both sides. At first I thought that was going to be obnoxious. It turned out fine, the atmosphere is very loud and a dimmed lights. Very New York style. I was with my sister so I actually enjoyed it! Maybe not so good for a day night tho FYI. Food was great! We started with the sea weed salad and shittakke roll. So good! Then continued with the sea monster, midnight somethin, and philly! Rolls were decent sized and all were very yummy! Service was great as well, the lady did charge our cards on the wrong bill but picked up on it right away and voided it out to the correct amount, I’ve worked as a server for years, these things happen. Over all great night and we were happy, I will be back for sure!

We’ve been to Seadog a few times and we love it. It’s one of my favorite sushi places to go to. First off a couple tips. When you go make sure you check into the restaurant on Facebook and show it to your waiter/waitress and you’ll get a free sweet potato tempura appetizer. Also if you pay in cash they’ll take 10% off of the bill and it’s BYOB so what’s not to like?! The sushi here is great, even their vegetarian rolls. Their menu is cool to just look at and they have a lot of very colorful pictures of a ton of the rolls that they offer. I know that made me sound like a kindergartner, but it helps when trying new items. I get the spicy salmon(best salmon rolls I’ve ever had) and the asparagus roll every time we go and then I’ll try a couple of new ones. It has a very cool modern look inside. The space is a little small it can get a little tight when the place is crowded. My girlfriend complains that the tables are a little long, but that’s probably the only negative things I could say about the place. Make sure you call ahead for seating because it’s a pretty popular place and can get crowded pretty fast. We love it though and plan on coming back several times.

Ordered delivery using UberEats new app. I ordered a spicy tuna and himachi roll. Overall the rolls had great flavor. My only issue with my order is that when I received it, there was a red liquid under the rolls. Im sure it was coming from the tuna… but is that normal? I was a little weirded out but overall everything tasted good. I would be skeptical to try the same rolls, but I would definitely try this place again.

This sushi place is lovely. I have been here numerous times and was surprised to find I had forgotten to review. The maki rolls are creative and well prepared. They have a nice selection of food both for meat eaters and vegetarians. Sea Dog has a lovely patio in the back if it is nice out. They are BYOB so make sure to grab a bottle of wine or 6 pack from one of the little liquor stores in the vicinity.

A really really really awful dining experience. The first bad sign was when I walked in and was promptly ignored. Someone eventually came in and said, I’ll be right with you to get you seated. About 10 minutes passed by before a different person saw me and asked me what I needed… a table please? Once I finally got seated it took forever before our orders were taken. And then it took even longer for the food. Nevermind that the sushi was all prepared and sitting on a side table that i could literally see! But did the waiters ever grab the food? Nope, they just walked right by it over and over and over again. The food finally came and I was so excited because I was starving! But then they got my order wrong… and once they corrected it, I watched it sitting all lonely on the counter as once again the two«waiters» walked by it over and over and over again. Oh, but they were quite quick to give us our check –_– The food? It was all right. Just your average sushi at above average prices.

Yay for byob with no fee! We liked the spicy tuna salad a lot. The maki rolls were fairly fresh we opted for more regular rolls since many of their rolls had cream cheese or was fried.

I’ve been here many times, and it never disappoints. BYOB, great sushi and a solid atmosphere. My go-to is the little sea monster, it’s the best. Today I had the secret garden for the first time, which is the most kick-ass veggie roll I’ve ever had. Obviously it’s 0% healthy, basically being a deep fried salad! So fun and unique though. We also had the dragon roll(lots of fish, solid spice level) and then tried the lovers roll which is on special for February. That one was my least favorite, too much rice and not enough flavor(the little heart rolls are adorable though!) I always forgot how GIGANTIC the rolls are! At so many sushi places you need 3 rolls/person and then you’re hungry an hour later. We split these 4 rolls between 2 and couldn’t even finish them.

That hostess is the definition of SASS. In a bad way though — sorry boo, gotta tell it like it is! If you have a reservation, be prepared to offer your first name. then last name. then phone number. In that specific order or NO you will not be seated even though there’s plenty of tables and most people are walk-ins. Jeebus. Well, good thing I can sass it right back. Sheesh. I thought maybe he was tired after a long shift but after a discussion with my friends have consistently had to deal with his attitude problem. You know who you are!!! And I bet everyone who frequents this restaurant does too. However, the food was actually really good! I was pleasantly surprised! I think my level of expectations have been crushed after too many mediocre experiences that I really wasn’t expecting much at all from this restaurant. We got the sweet potato appetizer(mmmm!!), seaweed salad, tempura, and a few sushi rolls(I think three different ones). Amongst five of us, we were STUFFED. I was preparing myself to pay the usual 40 – 50 dollars per head… esp since we were covering the birthday girl’s meal… it ended up being 20 bucks including tip. SAYWHAT! my mouth dropped to the floor and I swear I heard angels sing hallelujah! If this place was more expensive, I’d probably rate it a 3 but it’s a definite steal so that makes it a 4. If the hostess wasn’t so rude and sassy, I’d bump it up to a 4.5 or 5.

i’ll be honest, I came here with very low expectations. I’ve never really found any sushi place in Chicago that impressive(the fish just isn’t as fresh here as I’d like). On top of that, within the first few minutes of our arrival, we were greeted with nothing but attitude. the hostess was SO rude, i could hardly believe how he spoke to us. however, bad attitude aside the rest of the meal was quite pleasant. we started with the vegetable tempura, which was standard but it came with a really delicious spicy mayo dipping sauce. for dinner we got a series of rolls — spicy white tuna, spicy salmon, sea monster and the dragon. all of it was overall pretty good and satisfying. i loved all the sauces here! i think the rolls were well made and had great flavor profiles. on top of that i was impressed by the PRICE! it was a great affordable sushi dinner. if you’re into rolls + love byob, this is definitely the spot. the only thing holding me back is the service.

Came here on a Friday night looking to get some take out. They were very polite and got me my food in ten minutes! //Midnight sundae — 14 $ — it was pretty yummy but by the time I got home. It was cold. I think it is suppose to be served hot with a strange but nice cream top. It was actually a bit hard to get all 8 pieces down. The cream is a little much but it was pretty tasty otherwise. I would order this at the restaurant and share with friends :-) //Ebi Tempura — 6 $ — this one was delicious. Probably my favorite Ebi tempura I’ve had in a while. The shrimp was perfectly fried and crisp. //Crunchy spicy tuna — 8 $ — Pretty good. This sushi place is delicious and always consistent. Definitely check it out if you are in the area.

The first time I came here, I wasn’t too impressed since my friend got a really dry roll with just bonita flakes(avoid this one if you can!). This time, I was very impressed by my midnight sundae sushi! It was incredible. The fish on top was very fresh and tender and I liked how the sauce was salty yet sweet at the same time. The space is really tight and I really think they should expand. The waitresses were squeezing past us since the space is just so bad for a restaurant. It’s also BYOB and you can get free sweet potato tempura if you check in!

I took a friend here for her birthday and we had a great time. I got my daughter(4yrs old) sweet potato rolls, and they were delicious! For the adults, we ordered a few signature maki dishes and the large sashimi platter, which had a variety of fish including salmon, tuna, super white, yellowtail, seabass, tako(squid), shrimp-and I think there was more but I can’t think of them. The sashimi display was beautiful-very appealing. The fish itself was nice and cold and sooooo fresh! I cannot stress how fresh the fish was. The platter also came with a bowl of rice, which was really soft and fluffy, which was a nice addition to the array of fish slices. The signature maki was soooo good. I like how the chef rolled them and the size that he cut each roll. Everyone in our party received a bowl of miso soup, which was more flavorful than I’ve had, and it was even tipped with peppers, which I’ve never seen anywhere before. If you check in, you get free sweet potato tempura, which was so good, my daughter and I were fighting over them. Our server, Yahni, was amazing and funny-knew the menu and the food very well, and was very helpful. The atmosphere wasn’t too uppity, like sushi restaurants sometimes feel. There were crowds of all ages around us; people on dates, a group of 8 – 10 college age girls, married couple, etc… The staff were very welcoming and polite to all groups. The restaurant is BYOB, so don’t forget to bring your booze, but if you do, no worries, there’s a liquor store nearby, just ask an employee and they’ll be able to point you in the right direction(like we did). 4stars for food quality, fish freshness, beautiful menu, different menu items than other places(which were really good), price, and service.

At the recommendation of a friend, I decided to venture to Wicker Park to try out Seadog. I had been seeing a lot of sushi photos on Instagram and that had spiked my appetite accordingly. I arrived shortly after the doors had opened for business one day to get my sampling. An appetizer that grabbed my eye was The Island. It was sushi, but prepared unlike any sushi that I have had before. This was a dish of crispy sushi rice atop ebi tempura. There was a honey mayonnaise in the recipe that gave the sushi a pop that I enjoyed without use of soy sauce. The interesting maki roll was the Spooky Maki. This sushi roll was made of unagi, jalapeño, and cilantro served with a spicy mayonnaise and unagi sauce. The unagi sauce was rather sweet. After patting much of the unagi sauce on the plate, the sushi pieces were delicious. While the sushi definitely is a highlight, the service seems a bit disconnected. I don’t mean that as in disinterested, but more along the lines of mildly off-putting. Perhaps it was timing. I won’t take that away from how good the food was, though. It will be a while before I return, though.
