I can’t believe I wasted my time coming to this place. Horrible service and then when I asked for a smoothie the woman said no more. Lets see, the big sign to my left posted with various flavors that is title smoothies and yet you don’t sell them!!! Ok, well thanks for the false advertisement.

Okay, I am having serious doubts about Chicago Unilocalers. Yesterday Tokyo Lunch Box and today, Sixty Five Chinese. Food is not so bad in the city that these places are awarded such lofty ratings as 3.5 stars. I’m going to start eating chain food if this is how it’s going to be. Perfectly fine McDonald’s, Potbelly’s, and even an Arby’s around that has an upper hand on these duds. First of all, this has all the charm of a school cafeteria. Non-descript with scores of move-yourself 2-seat tables and chairs. Typical go-through-the-lines-and-pick-your-food cafeteria style ordering system. They do move you through quick though. My white rice and Mongolian Beef combo came to a couple of dimes short of $ 9. Not exactly a bargain, since all you get are those two items. The food is one of those you get at a food court in Dodge City, Kansas. Yes, if you were to go to a food court and order Chinese food in small town U.S.A. in the Midwest, you’d settle for something like this. Bland sauce with that fast food taste, gamey meat, lots of onions and okay amount of beef. But in Dodge City, this would cost $ 5.50. Come on, Chinatown is only couple miles away, Chinese food cannot be this bad in freakin’ Chicago. Table-for-1 Factor: Yes and many do. May be the only reason to go, to eat in anonymity.

I only come here for one thing, and that is the barbeque pork chow mein. It’s a little greasy, but we love it. The meat is usually not fatty, and edible. It has a great flavor. Love it

This place is really fast, especially when you have a limited time to get back to the office. I usually get the Chicken Chow Fun and the Singapore Noodles, which is probably some of the best items on the menu. Actually all of the noodle dishes are really good.

This is a great spot for a to-go lunch in the loop! I ordered the BBQ pork chow mein, chicken and broccoli and an egg roll. I would skip the egg roll next time, but the chow mein noodles were really good — tons of BBQ pork, nicely cooked noodles(not too soggy), and a little sweet. I liked the chicken and broccoli as well — broccoli was fresh and cooked perfectly. I recommend going at around 10:45−11 — I went at 10:30, and they didn’t have any food out. I waited until 10:45, and they were bringing everything out fresh at that time(very gradually).

I’m a visual learner. I need pictures and/or interpretive dances to help me understand what I’m getting myself into. The same goes with restaurants. I don’t have to have pics if reviews are detailed enough for me, but I greatly appreciate them. I was surprised at this place’s lack of food photos even though it’s extremely busy during the lunch hour and seems to be always packed. Especially after reading mixed reviews, I needed to see what the big deal was with the bbq pork. As soon as I stood in line and saw the bright, red sheen of fatty pork glistening behind the glass wall I knew that it was what I would get. People aren’t lying about the portions and from what I could see, they offered a nice variety of items from eggplant and salt and pepper chicken to chicken nuggets and crab ragoons. And of course as I stared down into my little container of rice and pork I knew I would end up eating all of it and I did. Was it the best bbq pork I’ve ever had? No, but it was pretty damn good. After a few bites I kinda wished I had ordered another side with some sauce. As far as where I work, this seems to be the only decent Chinese option that isn’t a sit down place. I’ll be back again for the eggplant. What I liked about this place was that you could get your own water and napkins/silverwares and to-go bags. Also, the ladies were all nice and friendly. Okay, maybe not friendly, but they seemed more patient than I expected.

Fast and delicious Chinese food in the heart of downtown. Go for the food but not necessarily the ambiance. I highly recommend the eggplant(which we ask cook to order without the chicken) and the BBQ pork. Generous portions. Avoid the lunch crunch and go before 11:45 or after 1:30pm. Great place to also stop by for dinner to go on your way home.

I went on a whim as there are NO other Chinese food places around that area at all. I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the entire meal. I got Beef and Broccoli. The broccoli was fresh and the beef was SO tender!

Watch out… went there this afternoon with a friend(who loves it here), and got the hot and sour soup. There was a chunk of metal in my soup(looked like a large staple that had been extended)! I told the women behind the counter, and they tried to give me a new soup from the same batch! I also saw they did not throw the soup out that had the chunk of metal in it, and don’t think they did anything else. Will not be going back — and hope everyone is careful eating here!

Exactly what quick, lunchtime Chinese food should be. White rice is always perfectly cooked, fluffy, and delicious. Somehow manages to not overcook the vegetables even with a cafeteria style serving line. Chicken & vegetables are clean and simple, with abundant white meat. Mongolian beef is extremely flavorful and meat is tender. Servings are generous. Pot stickers are huge and delicious. White people might not like the service because the old Cantonese ladies on the line are not patient with your indecisiveness, but they are extremely efficient and the line moves amazingly quickly. Honestly for Cantonese ladies they’re(relatively) very nice! Décor is simple and unassuming, like a real Chinese diner. Very clean(for Chinese people). Tons of seating. Every Asian person I know who has been there agrees, those that I’ve taken there for the first time have raved. For better Chinese food in Chicago you really have to go to a sit down restaurant in Chinatown or Little Vietnam(Broadway & Argyle) … with an exception for delivery from Mei Shung. All negative reviews of this place are simply wrong and probably from White Devils who don’t know any better. *sucking teeth* ;-)

65 Chinese is one of those places that has certainly seen brighter and substantially cleaner, days. First, the floor is sticky and filthy. There are visible stains everywhere from the walls to the ceiling to the windows and doors. For close to 10 bucks, you can get an overflowing Styrofoam container of «Chinese» slop that will make you cry for water into the next decade. I keep trying this haunt and hoping for better, yet it never seems to deliver anything beyond a suspicion that I might get sick from something that doesn’t reach to the expectations of the health dept. As for taste, I’m non-committal. The chicken with broccoli, which I just ordered the other day, isn’t actually good, although, it’s not terrible, either. You want to go to say you’ve been, but I think that’s the extent of it. Sometimes, cleanliness and aesthetics DO count and can make a huge difference!

It is frankly hard to get good Chinese food unless you’re willing to go into Chinatown. But if you have a hankering for American-Chinese classics, as well as some delicious but rarer dishes like the salt and pepper fish, this is a great place to go to. Still, if you have the time, most of the shops at Chinatown Square are better.

Sixty-Five offers large portions of mediocre Chinese food in an undistinguished setting for low prices. Really, that’s all you need to know, but fwiw, I like the chicken with eggplant best. Service is efficient and the line tends to move pretty quickly. The food won’t win any awards; it will fill you up.

Great, cheap, quick Chinese… Perfect for lunch. The orange chicken even comes with veggies. Definitely recommended

Good God, I can’t begin to describe this joint. What appears to be a greasy spoon of a Chinese restaurant is much more than that. The food is astoundingly greasy, the meat practically unable to be chewed, and your meal will likely be lukewarm. The tables and the restaurant aren’t so clean either. Avoid it altogether and go to Silk Road at Arcade Place or even Panda Express.

My professor was generous enough to order us(a class of 25 students) some appetizers from Sixty Five and they said they deliver. We are only in the South Loop area. When the food was ready, they said they won’t deliver to us. They packed everything into a cardboard box and gave it to one of the students to take back to the South Loop on foot. Once we opened the box, we found out there were no plates, napkins, forks/knives, or any kind of sauce. Just 50 egg rolls. Thanks. One of our friends ate a vegetarian egg roll, ended up in a hospital that same day because she got a «shellfish» allergy reaction from that veggie eggroll. Our professor called to let them know and Sixty Five hung up before she could finish her sentence. I’d avoid this place at all costs.

Their cakes are delicious. I just had one at a baby shower; the cake itself was both light and moist, and the icing was whipped cream icing. It was totally delicious, so I asked, «Where is this from? It’s soo good(and I’m not normally a big fan of cake because it is often too rich or dry or insert-some-other-quality-that-I-find-less-than-desireable, so this is relatively high praise coming from me),» to which my co-worker replied, «Sixty-Five Chinese restaurant.» I told her to stop lying. She totally wasn’t. Great cake. I swear.

Guilty pleasure. I get the salt and pepper chicken and the green beans with chicken– every time I go– over Singapore noodles I like how you can choose Singapore noodles instead if rice. They are yellow curry noodles with tiny bits of Chinese BBQ ribs. The portions are huge. When they close the box it reminds me of shutting a stuffed suitcase. The people are genuine and this is a family run business– not a chain, so the food is fresh and not factory prepared.

first off-the food here isnt too shabby. That’s the main reason ya check Unilocal reviews right?! well yea. for the price, 65 isnt too shabby at all. Their noodles are fantastic actually. But what’s the other factor ya look for in a business-specifically a restaurant?! SERVICE! well…here’s where this place starts going waaaay downhill. If u want a clean place-65DEF is. but ironically-that’s their main issue. no matter WHEN ive gone in here – they are ALWAYS cleaning. i know i know. whats wrong w that?! ill tell u what– nothing when it is done courteously & correctly. HERE’S how 65 chinese cleans: with their nasty ASSes. literally asses. in your face! no joke. They SERIOUSLY need to be taught how to respect customer’s personal space! especially while eating! I dunno about you folks– but the last thing i want when trying to enjoy lunch, is the overpowering smell of pinesol, etc. while no less than 4 LOUDly gossiping asian ladies clean literally 5inches next to u.& again, literally. stickin their asses in your face. let the pics prove my point. the phone was near my chest when takin these. THATs how close. i had my seat knocked into several times as well. no apology. no waiting til im done(place had only 3other tables full).just kept on w this rude nonsense. faillllllll.

On an unseasonably warm winter day I decided to meet up with a friend for our weekly lunch get together in the heart of the Loop. We met up and realized that it was packed EVERYWHERE we turned and with limited time we decided to go with the quickest option available. While there was still a lot of people at Sixty Five Chinese Restaurant, it seemed like a short wait, and due to my friend’s endorsement of the food there we decided to stay and eat. The menu is pretty vast. A variety of Chinese food options(quite a few pretty authentic) were on large board above, along with many options ready to go behind the counter to allow for quicker decision making. My friend raved about the portion sizes of the BBQ pork option so I decided to follow suit and order BBQ Pork with Rice. The total came out to be close to $ 8, which is reasonable but not a steal by any stretch, and the container was filled to the brim with a generous amount of BBQ Pork. They definitely do not skimp out on the meat. The BBQ pork was fine, tasted pretty good, have varying textures with fattier pieces and leaner pieces. The rice was clumpy and quickly made out of an industrial rice cooker. I think the meal overall was acceptable. I think the strong points of the meal was the speed, the generally pleasant staff(who spoke to me in Canto, points in authenticity!), and relatively good value of the meal. I came in hungry, left pretty full, and probably would have left needing a nap if I had gotten either Fried Noodles or Fried Rice with the meal rather than white rice. I think I would come back if I need Chinese food in a pinch, but overall the experience was probably the definition of average.
