I’m not very religious, I’ve never attended any service at this Episcopal church, but I would consider myself loosely spiritual and always interested in experiencing the world. So I think everyone should know St. James has a beautiful outdoor walking labyrinth(located on the upper level of the plaza between the Cathedral building and 65 East Huron) open 24 hours to the public. If you’re new to labyrinths, know that I aint’ talking bout no David Bowie in tight pants! A walking labyrinth is a non-denominational type of meditation on a flat maze usually made out of carved stones, or concrete and marble paintings. The idea is to walk slowly along the path, one foot in front of the other, until the task becomes so second nature that you experience a meditative state. The Veriditas organization(that which I know NOTHING about, so pardon me if they turn out to be a cult) maintains: «Labyrinths are currently being used world-wide as a way to quiet the mind, recover a balance in life, and encourage meditation, insight, self-reflection, stress reduction, and to discover innovation and celebration. They are open to all people as a non-denominational, cross-cultural blueprint for well-being.» And hey, its open 24 hours! I know I need some mind quieting after those 5am bar nights… these days, tamale guy just ain’t’ cutting it when it comes to piece of mind!
