Stan’s Donuts & Coffee

1. Calm down and let the sugar go down-​check. 2. Check my sugar count– check. 3. Make an appointment with the dentist in case of sugar damage-​check. 4. Question myself why I could and would eat that much… and still have room for donuts.-check. I guess I’ve done everything on my checklist so now I could write my review:)
Just kidding, I’ve just had a «one of those nights when you over eat» kind of night.
After having dinner for RW with my friends, we walked to Stan’s Donut shop and I was overwhelmed at how big the donuts are and how super thick the chocolate frostings are on the chocolate flavored donuts. I had to take a couple of steps back, I couldn’t decide what to take home for my kids. A part of me wanted to try each donut because that will make my kids happy… The other part is the «kill joy» part of being a mom that I will not let my kids eat that much sugar.
Anyway, I picked three: TOFFEE CAKE, SPRINKLED CAKE, and my favorite, the BOSTON CREAM. I shared the Toffee cake and the Boston Cream with my son, and man oh man, were those donuts good! The toffee cake wasn’t too sweet and I like how every bite is just packed with everything, no air involved here. The Boston Cream was to die for! The chocolate frosting had the right amount of sweetness, as well as the cream inside. The middle of the donut was filled with the cream, it was so good! The Sprinkled Cake, my son took it to school today and of course he told me that it was very good.
I know that the donuts are pricey compared to other donuts but each piece is big, filled with goodness and flavor, and unique flavors too. I will definitely come back, only if it was close to me. and only if I feel less guilty about having this much sugar:)

All other doughnut shops can sit down! Stan’s is the best! The staff is always friendly and the doughnuts are out of this world delicious. My favorites are the Maple Bacon and the Pocket doughnuts, filled with peanut butter and/​or nutella. They are seriously good! It’s probably a good thing they aren’t super close to me, or I’d be eating doughnuts all the time. Coffee is pretty good there too and I dig the throwback 50’s vibe of the décor. Thanks for being awesome Stan’s!

Two things crack me up; how anyone could give this 3 stars and that there are actually people in a franchise donut shop across the street while there is this place. Authentic mouthwatering flavors of chocolate, pistachio, orange, allspice in the donuts which make for a very unique and pleasurable experience. Even the most mundane donuts here produce incredible unexpected flavor essence.

There donuts were good. Seemed a bit pricey for a donut. I’ve been to several other donut shops and I could have gotten a dozen donuts with the price of 3 of their donuts. The red eye I requested was good.
Glazed and infused is my favorite around the North side of Chicago. Randy’s donuts in Inglewood, CA is my fav. I haven’t tasted anything that can tops Randy’s donuts, yet. (Good pricing too)

Yum, as usual. You cannot mess up a donut! Everything here from people to atmosphere to flavors were great!
I got a gelato donut sandwich but wasn’t totally in love. Tried a real donut the next time and it was definitely what I should’ve ordered.
The gelato one was just weird because it was frozen. Not a huge fan of the texture of it. However, it didn’t taste bad, I just am OCD about textures of foods.
Regular donuts are the bomb. Try them all.
Update: peanut butter pocket donut was glorious.

This is a cool donut shop right underneath the Damen Blue Line stop. It’s an atmospheric, hopping location and a testament to the coolness of Chicago’s dense, fun neighborhoods.
Even at 9 p.m. there was a line to get donuts, but it moved fast.
They had two vegan options (sugar donuts and powdered sugar). I got a powdered sugar donut ($ 3) and a cup of house coffee ($ 2).
No complaints with either. I wish they had more varieties of vegan options (for my money, Glam Doll Donuts in Minneapolis has the best vegan donuts in the United States, followed by places like Dun-​Well, Voodoo and Donut Friend). Stan’s Donuts does an admirable job, though.

We got here after 7pm and there were no lines, but most of the flavors that we preferred such as the chocolate glazed yeast doughnut were gone. So we settled with the Chocolate Glazed cake doughnut. We have not found a cakey doughnut that has won over yeast doughnuts, and this one we tried only added to that confirmation. The chocolate glaze itself was very good, but the cakey dough left us underwhelmed. Next time, we hope we can catch our preferred flavors if we get there earlier.
Despite the small shop, there are bathrooms for both sexes and a moderate seating area.

Decent donuts, I won’t deny. While these donuts are good, let’s be honest Unilocalers that it is NOT hard at all to be better than Dunkin Donuts, which is a low bar for donuts anyway. Even the faux-​50s interior décor, doesn’t hide the fact that the donuts here are overpriced, and I’m more of a neighborhood bakery donut guy at the end of the day (i.e. Dinkel’s, Swedish Bakery (on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays), etc).
That said, I am a fan of the _​_​_​_​Pocket donuts (i.e. Nutella, Peanut Butter, etc). And there are some things on their menu I haven’t yet tried, such as the gelato. My friend one time got an iced coffee drink besides a donut, and it was fine to me, nothing great nor terrible. So I haven’t written them off, and I’ll go here on occasion since I do still like their pocket donuts. I guess I’m just tired of places like this overpricing their donuts a lot more, than they should truly cost.
And of course since it’s my tradition to try an apple fritter at each donut place, the one at Glazed and Infused is better, and I thought Stan’s one was good, but not quite on the level of G&I or Old Fashioned Donuts on Chicago’s south side. Heck, it didn’t beat Home Cut Donuts in Joliet, which I consider them to be in a tie with Glazed and Infused for my #2 spot when it comes to apple fritters. I do consider Glazed and Infused’s apple fritter to be the best on the north side, though.

I always say «I’m not a donut person» but I realize I do enjoy donuts when they’re from places like Stan’s. Thanks to Aimee, I knew I had to order the lemon pistachio. So I went for two of those, an orange and a glazed old fashioned. I actually think the glazed was my favorite of all of them, but they were all marvelous and well enjoyed by MOI – as Miss Piggy would say and yes I feel like Miss Piggy after attacking 4 donuts.
I was pretty impressed that they were just as good the following day, as they were the same day. This place gets packed really fast, so make sure to get here as early as possible.

I’m not even all that into old fashioned donuts, but Stan’s made me a believer!
I picked up a half dozen with a nice mix of Glazed Orange Old Fashioned, Lemon Pistachio Old Fashioned, Apple Fritter, Biscoff Pocket, Turtle Cake (recommended by an employee), and Chocolate Glazed with Sprinkles. I also had a Hot Chocolate and all was right with the world.
The Chocolate Glazed, Biscoff Pocket, and the Apple Fritter were all very decadent. I was happy to get by with half of each when I split them with my husband.
I’d have liked the Apple Fritter to have a bit more apple to it, but I was thrilled that it wasn’t tough the way many others come out. It practically melted in my mouth.
Our brunch group flipped for the Lemon Pistachio but I found the Glazed Orange to be the best of the bunch. Again, I wanted more of a punch to the Lemon Pistachio but it was a nice subtle flavor. I found it to be the same way with the Orange, but it works very well since it’s a single flavor that isn’t competing with anything else. I could easily had eaten a dozen of them.
There are so many options that I was a bit overwhelmed when we arrived. This donut shop isn’t huge but the selection is and you’re kind of expected to grab and go. I quickly picked out the first six that popped out at me but found myself wishing I’d taken more time to look. I kept noticing and hearing about different donuts that I wanted to try, like the Maple Caramel Bacon Pecan Bar and Peppermint Bark.
We’re on day three of donuts and they still haven’t hardened. It’s a Christmas miracle!

Stopped into Stan’s after brunch and ordered some donuts & coffee to go. Yes, after brunch. Don’t judge.
I ordered a Lemon Pistachio Old Fashioned and a turtle cake donut. Just had the pistachio and OMG, probably one of the best donuts I’ve tasted. It’s still deliciously moist from when I bought it yesterday. Thank goodness I didn’t bring the turtle cake, I would have devoured both!
It kind of irked me that you get 2.5 seconds to review the menu and order what you think you want. This made me miss a bacon donut and a beignet! I get it thought, the staff is busy, and they still managed to keep a friendly attitude.
There is too many choices to not go back. There’s an apple fritter and beignets with my name all over them!

Loads of flavors so very very tempting! I tried the lemon pistachio as a sample and I couldnt taste much of the pistachio. So i purchased the pistachio glazed and again– weak on the pistachio flavor. Also it was a cake donut so I was slightly disappointed at that.
Turtle donut– this was was really good!
Will go back to try the other flavors.

Sometimes I think about these donuts and get sad because I don’t live near a location.
It’s always packed but it is worth the wait, and the price. I make a point to try a new donut every time I’m in here (although the peanut butter pockets own my soul).

Stan the man. Even after all the rave reviews that set the expectations high, you did not let us down. My blueberry old fashioned donut was absolutely scrumptious! I also ordered a hot chocolate, which was the perfect accompaniment.
Even though there was a short line in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, the employees were very efficient and it went quickly. We also managed to nab three seats together at the counter, which was clutch because there’s pretty limited seating inside. But overall, great place to grab a donut.

We booked our AirBnB in this area and always saw Stan’s when we got off the Blue Line. We were determined to check it out one day since it was always so full of people (usually a good sign for me) and finally got our donuts one morning. We each got one donut and was totally satisfied after that. I got the biscoff banana pocket and it was really good! It was pretty much a donut with cookie butter and bananas inside. If you’ve never had cookie butter, you’re totally missing out! My friend’s donuts were good too. We were super happy that we stopped by.
Overall, this place has really good donuts. I would totally be back if I lived nearby.

Glazed and Amazed with this place! Walked by, looked in and my eyes grew about 5x bigger. Obvy had to go in. They had the maple, pecan, bacon donut samples. SOLD. One for each of us, please.

My favorite type of donut is the good ol’ traditional. So, I had to get one of those with frosting.
Fiancé got a peanut butter/​chocolate one which he liked but was too sweet for me. The donuts are dense, moist and pure heavenly.
½ dozen came out to about $ 15. Kinda expensive IMO but once you try these, you won’t worry about the money anymore. I wish we got more!
They are so good that I don’t even care that I ate most of them while the fiancé is at work. Whoops. how did that happen?

Delicious! I’ve had some good donuts in my day, but this one just blows every other donut shop away. Honestly, wasn’t expecting too much of this place. It didn’t seem to stand out when I saw it and there’s another donut shop right across the street. Anyway, this was the last stop on our Chicago Food Planet Tour and I gotta say, they saved the best for last! We got to try their full sized glazed donut. It was delicious! The bread was perfection, just fluffy enough.
I came back the next day for an iced coffee and a dark chocolate original donut. The donut was unexpected. It was a bit crunchy on the outside, but still maintained its’ fluffiness on the inside. Most original donuts are just soft, no added crunch. Iced coffee was really good as well. I wish I had an awesome donut place like this near me. I will certainly miss this!

I always grab a donut whenever I’m in Wicker Park; this place is conveniently located next to the Damen Blue stop so I’m always tempted to buy a pocket (or two!)
I’ve tried most of their pocket doughnuts and I’d have to say the Nutella Banana pocket is the winner for me. Their pistachio doughnut is my fave, although when you swing by later during the day they don’t have any left. Line is long but moves quickly! Donuts are on the pricier side but soooo worth it!
The shop itself is absolutely adorable, with a wall full of Kitchen Aid mixers in different colors — «very Instagrammable» for all you social media lovers out there.

The Wicker Parker location of Stan’s is currently my go-​to donut destination in the city. They offer a good mix of the titular baked goods, ranging from classic variations (I’m a sucker for a good Old Fashioned) to inventive new flavors (I’ve become a sucker for Biscoff Pockets). And to wash it all down, they offer coffee from Intelligentsia.
The only major downside to this Stan’s is the bakery’s footprint. The central door’s placement directly across from the cash register makes for less-​than-​convenient traffic flow. And when the space gets crowded, it isn’t a great spot to sit down and enjoy breakfast. I have not visited their other two locations, so those spaces may be better.
But if you’re grabbing a quick treat to go (or don’t mind spending some extra money on a GrubHub delivery), Stan’s is a solid choice for donuts in Chicago.

Their blueberry fritter is so freaking amazing that my fiancé has now dubbed me Mrs. Fritterz after making sweet, sweet love to that donut… long story short — the awesomeness of thag blueberry fritter, in his eyes, is comparable to my awesomeness hence I am Mrs. Fritterz. I concede to being called this because the blueberry fritter really is that epic. There is literally no other fritter on the face of the planet that could top this one. I found it, yes, I found my miss new booty — the blueberry fritter.
If you’re not a big fritter fan (which in that case, what the hell is wrong with you???) then they have several other equally epic donuts, ranging from the popular pistachio donut to the butter bar to the rainbow yeast — raised donut. No matter which donut (s) you choose you can rest assured they will be ridiculously fluffy. When my fiancé and I went it was a Saturday night and besides it being packed with just an hour left to be open they still had several donuts to choose from, all of which were just as fluffy as you’d expect. There is something truly magical about these donuts and their insane fluffiesss and scrumptiousness.
Although they’re the best donuts I’ve ever had (and I’d be back over and over again to get more) they’re also the priciest donuts I’ve ever had. Those are some high class donuts, man. I’d say the average price for one donut is about $ 3 so be ready to break out thay wallet of yours, especially if you know yourself and you know you can never have just one donut. Oh, and if you like donuts with your coffee (which you should) they have nitro coffee for you. Nitro coffee!!! It’s creamy, frothy and it tastes good black — no cream or sugar necessary and that’s saying something because I always put an excess of cream and sugar in my coffee. Oh, but I’m not done. They also have soft serve gelato which is creamier than some that I’ve tasted at some gelato-​only places. Moral of the story — your sweet tooth is going to going crazy!
Now when you’re in a rush to get these infatuous donuts you must be aware that they probably won’t have parking right in front of it and you’ll most likely have to walk a few blocks to get to this little slice of heaven. That’s okay though, because you’ll inevitably burn some calories that you’re about to add back on with the donuts. And once you finally make it in there, there will most likely be a line which goes fast because of the efficiency of the staff. Speaking of the staff, although they’re swamped, they still find it in their hearts to be kind and friendly to the patrons.
Ultimately, I am in love with Stan and his donuts (Shh! Don’t tell my fiancé) and you will be too!

De las mejores donas que probé! La Chocolate Old Style es un pedacito de cielo, y riquísima también la de Cherry con queso danés. Cualquiera sale menos de 2usd.
Sirven café inteligentsia, que en mi opinión no es tan bueno como dicen… pero no está mal.
La zona es bien hipster, está super buena para caminarla, con locales que no se encuentran en el resto de la ciudad, como por ejemplo los famosos zapatos británicos Dr Martens (único local en Chicago), disquería de discos de vinilo y hasta un pet shop enorme.
Además, está de camino al aeropuerto por la blue line (estación Damen). De hecho, yendo al aeropuerto con un bolso enorme y 2 carries, y sin ascensor o escalera mecánica, valió totalmente la pena hacer una parada para desayunar.
Parada obligada!
