Hmmmm. Ordered for delivery. Generous portion sizes but the pad see ew was off. Then I tried the pad Thai and it was the worst I’ve had. Tom yum was great, though! Crab Rangoon would have been good but arrived cold.

Being on a trip for work my boss was wanting thai food and this was conveniently located just up the road from where we were staying. The restaurant is very cozy and quite. Wait staff was helpful. Our food was a bit pricey but did taste great. I had chicken satay and a som tum(green papaya salad) The chicken satay was good their peanut sauce was on par. The som tum was exactly what I was craving, it was the right level of spiceness and flavor. I would come back here again, but would look for other thai restaurants in the area. Once again the price was a tad high, but were in Chicago.

Pros: Friendly service, fair prices, and the food comes out quickly. Cons: My meal simply wasn’t very good. The Vietnamese spring rolls were fine, but the pad kee mow… just…no. The noodles were overcooked and all stuck together. The sauce didn’t have any flavor, so I had to basically season it myself with the sauces at my table.

I had been here in the past with my mother and was completely mesmerized by the charm of the authentic thai charm within the restaurant. The colors are rich, and you sit on beautiful red cushions while you dine. It is definitely a very unique setting with a lofty, urban feel with exposed bricks and ceiling. It’s cozy yet professional. We are vegetarian/vegans in our family, so of course our options were more slim by a long shot. We ended up ordering the Pad Preow Wan(8.75)(Sweet & Sour Chicken), but subbed chicken with tofu and the Pad Ruam Mit(8.75)(Mixed Vegetables) which has fresh vegetables: broccoli, pea pods, Chinese broccoli, tomatoes, red bell pappers and tofu. We loved every bite of both meals and the fact that they could serve the dishes with tofu vs. any meat. We really enjoyed every bit of it! We will definitely make it a point to come here again in the future for a warm, tasty meal in a unique and welcoming setting. Here is their menu:

Great atmosphere and food, but bad service. We had gyoza, cucumber salad, and pad Thai. There were about 8 gyoza which was a great value for the price! Had some special requests with the pad Thai which they accommodated perfectly. The food was delicious and presented beautifully! The service was awful. We arrived at 9pm, and they close at 10pm. The waitress acted like it was a huge problem for us to order, even though there were a couple other large parties in there already that hadn’t ordered yet either. She didn’t check up on us after our appetizers, we had to flag her down to order our meal, and she never checked on us after we got our food. Sat with water glasses empty, and had to ask for the check. Someone else ended up cashing us out while our server was texting on her phone in the front. Nothing is worse than great food with bad service…

Amazing flavor, great portions for price, and very happy with delivery time. I highly recccomend this place if your craving some delicious Thai food. The Spicy option is spicy but super flavorful, so feel free to explore your«feisty» side.

I was leery of ordering from here, since the reviews were mixed. Boy was I surprised by how great it was. I ordered my Pad Kee Mao when I was about a 5 – 8 minute walk from the restaurant. Upon arriving, my food was already ready. This is the fastest service I have ever had outside of a Chipotle or fast food restaurant. The speed with which they prepared my order terrified me. Would it be wrong or gross? Nope. Neither. It was actually wonderful. The dish was overflowing with chicken, especially given that the dish was not expensive(around $ 10). I asked for the dish spicy, and they listened to my wish. They even added a side of chili sauce to my to go bag in case the spice wasn’t enough. It was super thoughtful. The only thing I didn’t love was that my order was taken very abruptly over the phone. I was never given a time estimate, and I had to stop the employee from hanging up while I made a request to make it spicy. Once I arrived, I found the staff to be incredibly welcoming. I would definitely recommend checking this place out.

I ordered mussammam curry and som tam. Som tam was so yummy and curry, yes I like it. They put a plenty of nuts so that curry tastes more oily. Basically I like it.

Just OK! My order of drunken noodles was a generous portion of meat and vegetables however, the noodles were well overcooked and there was no sauce + lacking in flavor. I also was not a fan that you do not order your meat or tofu… It comes standard with chicken and shrimp. I did not order soup as they were so pricey. Thai iced coffee was a treat. Thick and not too sweet. Also QUICK delivery and the delivery man was personable and patient… Not something you always get especially when ordering to a hotel.

Food is average. Nothing to write home about. Not as authentic as it could be but perhaps they toned down on the spices because most of their patrons are non-Thai or Asian. Service is good.

Best Thai Place in the City. Hands down. Their Crab Rangoons are like none other. Everything tastes fresh and just full of flavor. Their drinks are amazing. Try the Tequila Sunrise, you won’t be disappointed. Service is really fast and very friendly. We always bring our kids with and they accomodate us very well. I LOVE the fact that there are no tvs, it’s a good place to have dinner with friends, families or date nights. Great spot, great food.

The restaurant is much bigger than I expected! I really like all of the decorations to be honest… I had very high expectations for Star of Siam. I ordered the Pad See Ew while my friend ordered the fried rice. Totally typical and easy items to make! The food came up within a few minutes(wow! fast service) along with my thai tea. The thai tea was a little on the sweet side but still good. The noodles in my Pad See Ew were overcooked, a little soggy and by the end of the meal and tomorrow, totally congealed. The chicken was unflavored, dry and cold. It was pretty obvious that the chicken was tossed into the Pad See Ew on the plate but wasn’t even heated up. The worst part of the dinner was since we had a 4 seat table, the waiter came up and took our second table to combine it with another table without asking. We had plates and drinks on that table! They could have asked before moving our items!

Probably my favorite Thai spot in Chicago so far, and 10 minutes from my apartment of all places. Stumbled upon this place with two friends, and realized that a craving for asian food is always in order. Star of Siam serves their dishes family style, so we ordered the Chicken Pad Ped, Mussaman Curry, and Pad Khee Mao, and across the board all dishes were good. However the real star was the Mussaman Curry, which they claim is one of their standbys, and for good reason. The thick curry was savory and perfectly creamy, while a strong but not overpowering taste of peanut and curry spices. Chicken Pad Ped was good as well, though the depth of flavor was not as impressive as with the Massaman curry. The Pad Khee Mao on the other hand could have been spicier and had more basil, but i’ll reserve some judgment on the noodle dishes until i try their pad thai or pad see ew next time. For the area, Star of Siam is actually a solid choice for Thai food, and quite affordable as well(Most dishes will run $ 8-$ 10). However, rice will run you extra(It’s not included in any entrees), so that would normally warrant half a star off. However, given that this is River North it’s hard to do better as far as value goes for dinner.

Yum to everything I tried at Star of Siam. Seriously, everything was great, tasted fresh and was portioned generously. Five of us came here for lunch. We had a nice window seat. I highly recommend the curry. Service was good. Professional. Can’t wait to go back!

This is a large, elegant downtown Thai restaurant. The food has very fresh ingredients, but not enough kick to its spices. The my Tom Yum seafood soup was very mild, as was my Pad Kee Mao – a standard order of mine with basil, and broad noodles. I prefer my noodles stir fried with a little more oil, to give it that fresher taste. I would say that this is a hard review to do as I would like to try some to there other dishes. I must say that the restaurant was very accommodating with our requests. Our meal was an enjoyable experience, however for Thai food I need a little bit of heat to my food!

Never dined in, but ordered delivery numerous times since it’s the only place that delivers to my apt; two stars for that and they have a wide variety of choices. I’m thankful they have decently tasting papaya salad and tom kha kai(sour hot soup with coconut milk), everything else is below average. But they have all the Thai staples. Red and green curry have plenty of content but not enough curry sauce. Pad Thai taste was funky, maybe it was lacking soy sauce or had too much sweetness, but the noodles are too thin for my liking as well. I wanted to highlight my latest delivery: $ 1 for a lemon wedge(literally ¼ a slice of a lemon) and charged me $ 2 for something they scratched off. See picture below. Warning: sometimes they might rob you of a few bucks, but the dishes suffice and it’s the only Thai place that delivers to River West, so i guess Star of Siam will continue to light dimly in my book but it’s flickering really hard…

The staff is all Thai, but I expected the food to be better honestly? It was good but we had been walking around the city all day and I was ready to eat some Thai food… I guess you could say I’ve had better, and I’ve definitely had worse. I probably wouldn’t go back it’s such a big city I would try a different place…

i really like how you don’t need to wait for a seat at this location, so after shopping on michigan ave you don’t have to worry about standing in line for another hour The food is authentic, but the portion is a bit small

Absolutely delicious GEM tucked in River North. I am so thoroughly pleased with my experience at Star of Siam. I went at 11 for lunch. The interior is beautiful and has a stunning first impression. What I enjoyed is the unique seating area that you don’t see everyday in Asian restaurants in the USA. What I love about this menu is the price point. I ordered the Red Curry shrimp egg rolls(set of 2) and a small side of jasmine rice. All for $ 13. Not too bad. Especially for the portion size. I informed the waitress that I wanted my curry spicy. I stressed to her 3 times to make sure it was spicy because there have been times when I order spicy curry that’s usually not spicy. Well, she delivered a SPICY red curry that had me refilling my water about 5 times. It was delicious. I did not have to add any spices or sauces to the curry. The chicken was flavored great and their bamboo shots were julienned! My favorite as opposed to chopped in round bits. My only problem with the dish was that it wasn’t actually hot. That may be due to the lukewarm rice when mixed. But at any rate, the Curry was damn good. I also loved the shrimp egg rolls. Made fresh, FILLED with cabbage and shrimp. The sauce they serve with it was delicious too. 4.5 stars. Would’ve been 5 if the curry was hotter

Without a doubt, my favorite Thai restaurant in the Loop/River North area. The atmosphere is authentic and modern at the same time, and the restaurant is clean and well kept. It’s an easy stop off the red line so I like to grab lunch there sometimes during work. The menu seems restrictive in that they have many of the typical Thai dish offerings, but rather than give you a choice of protein for each one, the dish is listed with a predetermined protein already. Don’t worry, they have no problem making substitutions if you ask. Their ginger stir fry dish is listed as with chicken, but they were happy to sub in tofu instead. The sauces are full of flavor without being oily and ingredients are fresh. Brown rice is an available option. Service is friendly and prompt and the food comes out quick. This is a great lunch spot downtown. Outside of downtown there are a couple Thai places I prefer over Star of Siam(Opart, Silom 12, etc.) but in a sea of Thai places within the actual loop, all catering to the lunch crowd, Star of Siam definitely sticks out above the rest. Don’t come here looking for a lunch buffet — this places takes more pride in their cooking and prepares everything fresh and made to order.
