This is my new spot. You go in, it’s non intimidating for guys and all the hairdressers are super nice and approachable. I got lucky and was able to get an awesome haircut from Leslie and felt like I made a new friend. Can’t recommend this place enough.

What’s better than enjoying a beer while getting a fresh cut. The hair stylists were incredibly nice and informative. I left with a clean fresh fade ready for a night out on the town.

I love me some Liz! Liz, has been cutting and coloring my hair for years now.(I followed her from her last salon) She is very meticulous and skilled at what she does. Whether I just need a trim or want to cut off 10 inches to donate, she knows my hair and what I like. I have never been disappointed with any cut I’ve gotten, whether it’s a short bob or long layers. And color? She pays close attention to detail and delivers every time. Yeah for Liz!

I’ve been coming to Strand for basic men’s cuts with stylist Liz O’Bleness ever since she left Curls & Company earlier this year. Her attention to detail is top notch and I love her easy-going personality — ask her about Dr Who, Harry Potter, or her current fan-fiction reading list and you will make her day! The salon is clean, well-maintained and a relaxing, laid-back environment — the opposite of your typical pretentious, overly expensive Lincoln Park salon. Plus, it’s practically across the street from The Local Option brewpub and only a 5 min walk to the Fullerton redline station. Highly recommended!

I walked in and though oh this place is cute. I was greeted by the owner and her assistant. They had big smiles and were very welcoming. I was there to get a blow out and fulfill my dream to get extensions! Wow! They delivered. Knowledgable and used the best on me. My own hair was treated with the Moroccan Oil line. It feels the softest it’s ever felt. My extension were done quickly and are amazing. I feel and look wonderful. The atmosphere is laid back and very welcoming. I felt at home and conversation flowed easily. Nothing felt forced. They really care about you and what it is you really want. I am so happy. I have searched for so long for a stylist to get me and what it is I want. For someone to understand my hair and to deliver. I will gladly come from St. Louis to have my hair done here again. I couldn’t go anywhere else after this experience.

I did a walk-in appointment at Strand – it was definitely not worth it. I live a block away and figured that it would be very convenient, especially since they do walk – ins. The entire appointment was very awkward, with the stylist sharing way to much personal information and to top it off, it was way to expensive. All I got was a trim, no shampoo or other styling, and it was $ 50. While I am satisfied with how my hair looks, it was definitely not worth that much. If I was looking for an entirely new style or color, Strand may be the place to go, but I would definitely not go for something as simple as a cut or touch-up.

I was not happy I had to find a new hairdresser as mine was leaving town, so I looked in my neighborhood first hoping to find a great salon in a convenient location. Strand is it. While my first visit took longer than expected due to delays, I am extremely happy with Mary’s work. She nailed the color & even improved upon my cut, which isn’t easy to do with short hair. I found everything with the salon just the way I like it… relaxed, clean atmosphere, the people were hospitable and the lack of pretension very refreshing. I would definitely recommend Strand, and I will be going back.

This was a hair nirvana in a relaxed, clean environment with a true artiste. Mary, the owner, cut my hair at short notice and was absolutely brilliant. She actually IS an artiste, so her skill and her eye are both exceptional. SITUATION: I was really in desperate need of a haircut — it had been over a year since my last. I used to have very short hair and was something of a «hair snob» when I lived in Europe. In the last 18 months, I decided I wanted a change. As hair grows back in, it changes a lot, so I wasn’t bored.. .I was looking scraggly. MYFEAR: I go into a salon and the hair stylist makes passive-aggressive comments on the condition of my unwashed, braided Yogini earth mama hair and follows it up with patronizing suggestions for what I could do with it. THEREALITY: I go into a salon and find that my stylist is a fellow Yogini and earth mama who totally«gets it», is completely relaxed, asks all the right questions, makes helpful suggestions, gives a WONDERFUL head massage/scalp scrub, and an even MORE wonderful cut and style. Earth-friendly products abound and there are plenty of options for the chemically sensitive. And she was so cool, in fact, that we had a brilliant chat and I might want to cut my hair more often to hang out with her. =)

Honestly, Katie is one of the best hair cutters out there for guys. My hair style is pretty simple(brad pitt ‘do with a little spikey flip up in the front), but you’d be amazed at how many barbers or female stylists at barbershops can’t get it right. She gets the length on top to perfectly match the length on the sides. It sounds like I care more about my hair than I should, but looking presentable is important to me and to my job. So, she’s my girl.

I went to Strand for the first time last week and was very impressed. Mary, the owner, was my stylist and she did a professional job with both my cut and highlights. I expressed what I wanted and she was able to give me additional recommendations and come up with a great look.(And she even offered me refreshments!) I’ve been getting compliments all week!

Mary, the owner did my wedding party’s hair and makeup(she has been cutting and coloring my hair for the last year) and everyone looked AMAZING! If I could give her 6 stars I would! She also did our hair for our bachelorette party(for free!) and my showers. In all instances we looked beautful! She also helped me arrange to have massages for the morning of my wedding and Steve was awesome! I would definitely recommend him to anyone– esspecially on the morning of your wedding if your family is anything like mine… If you are looking for awesome hair for your wedding day(or any day!) look no further!

Strand is a more no-frills type salon, but it has a great touch and atmosphere. My stylist, Jane moved there from K. Paige(see K. Paige review) recently and I just had my first visit to Strand! So, Jane is great as usual, but now she has more time to devote to me personally, as opposed to having to squeeze another customer in between my color and cut… Strand is super relaxed and today the owner came out with a pitcher of yummy sparkling pom juice and poured me a glass while I got my trim… Nice, fun, efficient and relaxed! Go to Strand and ask for Jane!

I live a few houses from this neighborhood salon. As a big consumer of hair services I was excited to give Strand a try. Not only would I be supporting a local business, it would be very convenient. Despite a sign on the window that said«Walk Ins Welcome» when I did walk in with my two daughters to have their hair cut I was told by the gentleman working there that we had to have an appointment. This despite the sign and despite the fact no one was in the salon. I didn’t argue(I was with my daughters and didn’t want to set a bad example, plus, I didn’t see the point as I knew I would never step foot in the place again,) just turned and walked out. I don’t quite know what to make of this experience other than I think they are not very nice or ethical people.
