I can’t help but compare this current iteration of a CSO center store to the former more glorious and roomier version, where now sits an inglorious fast food chain. So is the way of the world. The CSO does a better job than most art-​center stores by keeping the kitchy music-​marketing items to a minimun and focusing on the music, but the overpriced music themed crafts do occupy an annoying portion. Still a good selection of classic CSO recordings and features based on what is playing currently, but only a fraction of the previous store’s impressive inventory. Rather small and crowded around concert time. Support them since there are few classical stores left in Chicago, in fragmented form.

Very interesting store. They’ve added world music selections and you can sample them in the store. The staff know what they are talking about and can point you into a good direction. I spent an hour listening to music and looking at the gifts. Tons of CSO souveniers if you want to take something back for classical music lovers.
There are tons of tourists here on the weekends. So come during the week.

I love this place. It’s quiet and although many of the gift items go a bit off the cheese end, it is one of the ONLY classical music stores left in the city. Sad but true– buy a gift and support a great institution.
