Ted’s Place is total Portage Park dive bar, and that’s exactly what we were looking for! Cold beers, friendly bartender, pool table, a Touch Tunes jukebox, and surprisingly clean bathrooms… that checks just about all my dive bar boxes! Also surprising was that the music didn’t screech to a halt when a group of non-regulars walked through the door — divey and welcoming, it’s a cozy corner bar I’ll definitely return to.

What a great little neighborhood bar. Eileen the bartender is very funny and very friendly… makes you feel right at home in this cozy little shot and a beer joint. The beer is the coldest in town and its very reasonably priced… got a pool table, and the bathrooms are clean… everything you want in the neighborhood bar.

Ted’s Place seems like the kind of bar you’d need to visit once a week for a decade in order to truly appreciate. It’s a likeable enough place that I’d do that myself, if it weren’t for hundreds of other Old Style neighborhood taps with names following the [Somebody’s] [Something] pattern… most of which probably also feature an electronic jukebox, pool table, darts, a dozen or so mass-produced beers, a Facebook page, and a Molson Golden whiteboard listing upcoming birthdays of regulars. The front bar was completely occupied(even on a school night), so a friend and I each took down bottle of Stroh’s from a back table and let the Beatles accompany our wait for the next day to arrive.
